I got one of these about 5 years ago (sunburst). One of my favorite purchases, something about how it felt and sounded just felt right. I changed out the tuners to Hipshots (one of the stock tuners broke, so I decided to replace them all), a white pearloid pickguard and telecaster knobs. I hesitate to change the pickups/electronics because I really like the sound I have.

Used these are a great buy at $250-300. The build quality is fine for the most part, the pickups sound okay, and they play pretty well. You can add it to a collection or just have a workhorse jam session bass that does the job. New they go for $450-480. At that price it's an investment so I'm trying everything from $450-700 and buying the best of the lot.

As ever a great video. I wonder If I could bother you for some advice. I have seen a squire affinity jazz bass at a local 2nd hand store. Its in a very good condition (seems very new), but I am thinking of modding it like my squire P-bass. I was thinking, what you change. I was thinking maybe the pick ups for some seymour Duncans, a more heavier bridge. Replacing the pots for Fenders own, and maybe the tuners. Let me know your thought, as well as other subscribers. The sound of this bass your reviewing is great. Keep up the good work

Hey, awesome video! and great tone and playing. My son wants to get this bass, but he also does not like the pickguard. Where did you get the cream pickguard? Will a fender pickguard fit on this squier? Thanks so much!
@JonnyDibble3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks very much 😄 So, I didnt buy this one, I was lent the bass and it already had it on it. BUT I've replaced several squier pickguards in the past. I normally get them from eBay. There are shops on there that sell them and in the description they normally list what they'll fit 😊
@tonycampbell9626 Жыл бұрын
I got a 70s Squier Jazz but had a difficult time sourcing this same pick guard. I called Fender and they said all the holes may not align properly as for fitment. I had a company copy the original which came with the bass and they made me a duplicate copy of this pick guard and mailed the new one and the original back to me. The proper color is PARCHMENT per Fender. I put it on a 3 color sunburst body with maple neck and black inlays. I couldn’t have been happier how it looked. As for the overall sound I stayed with the original alnico pickups but dropped a John EastJ Retro preamplifier in the bass and it was well worth the investment. I installed a Babicz FCH 4 bridge, direct drop in no modification required. The bass is on another level with so many tones under my control that it compares side by side with an expensive Fender American at about $1500.00 USD. This bass is turned out to be a monster. All the bass snobs are no longer turning up their noses. It’s taking good platform and making it great without losing your retirement funds. Good luck in your journey.

Hola Johny qué tal? te sigo hace tiempo y estoy suscrito a tu canal.

I have the 60s CV squier Jazz bass and i love it! I got it new but it had been sitting on display a while so needed a little love. It's the older chinese made one and has a rosewood fretboard which is gorgeous. My only issue with it is the tone knob! It hardly makes a difference. Anyone know what i can do about that? Is it the pot that needs changing? If so what pot should i get for it?
@stephenhookings19853 жыл бұрын
Could be the pot or might be tone cap? I have Sire M2 and the tone knob does nothing. I need to change the cap. I just got one of these CVs for my birthday. Will be setting it up and reviewing on my channel. The other thing you could use to change tone is external FX - like a Zoom B1XFOUR.

The problem with all these Squier basses I have is they all sound great when they have new strings on. But after the strings wear off you can really hear how cheap it sounds. Also they lack a lot of low end and some mids, the pick ups seem to be voiced with a lot of treble and with fresh strings they sound amazing hear on youtube with a lot of compression and on my crappy speakers
