no one tries it in a serious manner. You need to dedicate yourself to the craft to do what Mullen was doing. I am 37, and started skating at 34.... and Ive come SO fuckin far, yet, I THINK I will never see myself do the things Mullen was doing...nonetheless...It feels like the only thing pushing me towards is my maturity and how ive learned to trust myself for learning new things. The fact Mullen did these things at such a young age... sooo early in the skateboarding timeline is.... mind boggling.....many people talk bout Rodney, but I dont feel they really understand whats at stake when it comes to what he has done for his time. lack of dedication is mostly how our current generation acts towards progressing in their respective crafts.

Thanks for making these videos. I was a wee babe skating in the early 90's and Rodney was one of my heroes. It's great to see that he was so innovative that his tricks are still so hard to replicate. I don't think I ever really realized how rare primo slides, casper slides, or underflips are until I started watching this series. It's true you really don't see anyone other than Mullen (and maybe on the rare occasion other guys like Haslam) do these tricks. Especially the primo/casper slides.
@fr4nkm4346 жыл бұрын
newpa1n I landed a primo slide and it was super tough! And after hours and hours when I finally landed it, it was sketchy as hell, and I think that's the reason not a lot of ppl do it, It's hard to do a sketchy primo slide, let alone landing it clean!

The thing about Rodney Mullen is that the way he did flip tricks was mesmerizing. So deliberate like he was floating above the board and he could control it with his mind. No slow motion needed to see what he did. As well as his portfolio of tricks being impossible to duplicate, nobody will ever be as graceful as he was a street skater.
@jimmyhinshaw85335 жыл бұрын
This is a very well done and enjoyable series. You have a great mellow attitude which is refreshing and the core of what the skating scene meant to most of us. I love the positivity and coming in for the real stuff (hug) at the end. Skating is the source. I hope the youth embrace this series. For us old guys who skated in the 80’s & 90’s we knew Mullen was timeless and it seems that remains true.

This series is really the best you have done so far. It also shows what a beast Rodney Mullen was landing easily a trick that took so much struggle for a pro skater like you to land. In addition, it’s great that you show us this trick done in such good video quality, something that wasn’t available in Mullen’s best years.

This was the most iconic skate video of all time to me from 99 and that nollie flip front door under flip is one of the reasons I started taking skating so seriously and even though I took a 13 year break from it I’m back at it again now for another 2 years straight and I love it more then ever and that video was one of the main reasons i went so hard in the paint 🎨 amazing Rodney part. The Nollie flip underflip from 99 that you showed at 1:32 Rodney actually does the underflip with his front foot, flicking with his right and underflipping with his left, not sure if anyone pointed that out already but I’m pretty sure the way you did it would be harder cause you had to get back under it after flicking. Absolutely amazing job on this trick though any late/underflip trick takes serious energy and control I only wish I had better words to convey my appreciation for your talent over the years Iv been watching, well done Johnny 🙌🏻
