I've been tattooing on my own since the beginning for about 3 years now(mostly on myself) and have had some success but not without a lot of failures! I have not done an apprenticeship strictly due to not being able to afford to. The quality of my work before watching your videos improved quite slowly(having watched countless other "tutorials". Since watching your videos the quality(and speed) of my work has improved exponentially!! There is still a lot to learn as always, and I constantly am trying to find new and different techniques to expand my abilities! Like you said, knowledge is power and your videos are by far the most thorough and informative videos I've found(abs I've watched a lot of videos!!) Additionally to the information you provide your energy and obvious love for what you do and eagerness to teach others how to improve has made your videos not only informative but also fun to watch! I hope that when I have the ability to start an apprenticeship that my mentor is at least half as passionate and knowledgeable as you. Keep up the good work, and thank you for making these videos!

Jono, thank you for all the tips and pro tricks to producing a better piece. Not having to deal with splatter or pooling of excess ink not only saves the stencil, but it also saves on skin irritation caused by excessive wiping or blotting of freshly tattooed areas. A tattoo is not going to be completely irritation or pain free unless it is a temporary jobber like what we used to get back in the day out of a cracker-jack box, but it does not need to be agonizing either.

@JonoSmithTattoo3 жыл бұрын
He’s a link for a decent fake skin. This one tends to wipe really well. The best stencils for fake skin are hand drawn ones on hectograph paper. You can use a standard stencil solution or even washing up liquid (obviously don’t use that in real skin) but it works great on fake skin. Hope this helps. Hey brother. Appreciate the videos! I was wondering what carts you used for the minion. Also, I’m kind of a Tater Tot, I was wondering what kind of cartridge you would use to do fine hair or feathers or like feathery sort of peach fuzz of a baby chick.
@JonoSmithTattoo3 жыл бұрын
I used EnvyGen2 carts. The sizes for this were just a 10-09-RL and 10-11-CM. For anything really fine like you mention I always use a mag and angle it sideways to get a really fine edge for the delicate lines and shade over the top of them with the same mag to get the ‘fuzzy’ look. Thanks for watching!

@JonoSmithTattoo3 жыл бұрын
As with most things in tattooing, you really do get what you pay for (that’s what I find anyway). I’m completely sold on EnvyGen2 just because they’re consistent and give great results. You are right though they do cost more than your average cartridge but they’re worth it for me personally. You could try a cheaper make but still decent quality like Pinup.
