Looks absolutely incredible! At this point, all these saber companies should be making weathered variants of all their hilts because it truly gives them so much more character. I did my first weathering job about a month ago on my Cal Kestis saber. For years the idea of weathering any of my sabers intimidated me because I thought it looked too complicated and feared I would mess it up and ruin the look of the saber. That all changed when I saw your weathering video for your first Cal Kestis saber. You make these tutorials super detailed and easy to understand. I follwed every step and got the same exact products you did to complete the weathering. I was nervous at first, but once I got the hang of it I really started having fun. For my first attempt, I'm extremely happy and proud of the results. I originally was just going for a light weathering job but I was enjoying the experience so much I kind of got carried away and did some heavy weathering lol. While there are definitely things I wish I would've done differently, I'm extremely satisfied with what I was able to accomplish. I'm excited to weather another one of my sabers sometime this week. Thank you so much for inspiring me to do something I never thought I could. Love the channel and all the great content you make. Keep up the amazing work and MTFBWYA!

Oh thank you so much! I’m so glad you give something like this a go. It’s such a fun process and it truly makes it part of you because you now worked on it with your own hands so it makes it that much more special. Saber companies like TXQ and LGT have recently been put out more weather versions of sabers. Some look ok and others looks blah. Nothing like a custom job that you can put in the time and really work with it.

@@TheCollectorsOutpost I totally agree that a custom job is definitely the way to go. A lot of the weathering on these pre weathered sabers is too symmetrical and consistent for my taste. It should be applied randomly to give it a more natural look

USE GLOVES when using the Aluminum Black and contact cement. Both are nasty. Contact cement: you need to paint both sides with it that you plan on putting together and wait for them to dry a bit. Then you press the two parts together which is where the 'contact' part of the glue comes into play. It's used on shoe rubber, etc so is strong AF.

I love your weathering. It makes the pieces feel like they have much more of a story. Also for different ways of wrapping your hilts try looking up some sword and knife maker videos here on KZbin. I've seen some pull off really awesome wraps.

I used to see in lightsaber forums from places like Ultra Sabers or Vaders Vault for weathering hilts. I'll take a look and if I find them, I'll post the link.

Myself, I'm going to try lemon juice on the leather to see if it mildly distresses the leather color.

Well, I could not find the posts in those forums, so I did a deep dive and found WIKIhow and typed in distressing leather, painting leather and aging aluminum. Some interesting ideas there. I do like your use of oven cleaner. Seems the easiest and fastest way to clean the aluminum on hilts. I'm a bit tense over using the Aluminum black though. Maybe on certain parts of hilts.

Hi, I'm really enjoying your channel, and I've bought the Cere-Cal dual saber and the Obi-Wan Ep4 weathered saber. All are SNV4 cores. I'll be attempting to weather the Cere-Cal myself, which could be interesting... The issue I have, however, is that the on and off twist gestures don't work on any of the hilts. The ForcePark V2 app shows gestures as enabled, as do the configuration files on the SDCards. I've been searching the Web for help, but the best I've found assumes that the gestures are already enabled and thus only provide instruction for how they work. I know it's a long shot, and well outside the realms of KZbin, but I thought I'd take a chance and ask yourself. Just in case this is something you, or one of the other subscribers to your channel might have encountered and know how to fix. Cheers, Gary

Yea, put leather on a couple of sabers and beyond the look it really does feel nice. Seen something called an edge beveler, maybe could help.. Make the edges thinner so it lays flatter, can look nicer. It'll look more worn in at the start I would think. And then I guess you could have a bit of overlap that way but it'll look smooth. Then tutorials for braided leather wraps look similar to what you were after there. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4KVpGSIhrGehs0 I might try something like that. The defconbird seller does have thinner strips, just not exactly all of their colors.

As long as is needs. Some where in the 10-20 min range. Sometimes you have to do it twice to strip everything off. There’s really no set time. You just kinda have to see what happens.

I’ve been watching all your weathering videos ms am buying my first lightsaber soon and wants to try some of your techniques. If I buy an an aluminum hilt alone do I need to strip it still or can I go straight to sanding?

Even if you buy an aluminum hilt, must have some sort of protective coating on it so you can try to apply aluminum black first and see if they reaction immediately. If not, then you will have to strip off whatever finish coating they have. As for a protective topcoat when I do apply any. Sometimes I don’t. But I use a clear mat spray paint. You will see that in some of the other videos as well.
