Hi Jon. What I'm learning most from you is that you aren't stuck on perfection. I've been approaching pottery like a machinist working on a lathe or something...while you're over here cranking out art. Thanks for playing fast and loose and showing beautiful results! You've got your hands full perhaps no time to mess around. You're awesome.

Would you be able to do a video on buying equipment? I live in Canada and have been wanting to buy a wheel for at home but don't know where to start!
@Sweetpixels015 жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm in canada and I found my wheel on craigslist for $300! You see them for sale on kijiji too. Mine is a 40+ year old Shimpo and works great! I got my kiln for $700 which is a newer model with a digital box off a farm sale and swap group on facebook! It had only been fired a few times! Just keep looking and dont give up your wheel will find you.
@alexapeters59145 жыл бұрын
@@Sweetpixels01 oh wow that's so awesome!!! I have been checking Kijiji multiple times a month and there just isn't anything lately. I'm from Alberta so pottery isn't as big here as other places unfortunately 😕 might have to pay full price for a brand new one 🤷🏼♀️

I would appreciate seeing kiln set up and tips. I have an enclosed garage and no way to permanently vent it or indoor space near windows or a small shed on a balcony. We live in a condo with an HOA 😑. I started a ceramics class thanks to Jon and although I currently can't throw for beans, I'm super excited to learn! Here in Cali there really isn't second hand equipment either due to the popularity of the hobby and the fact that the equipment is very long lasting. Good luck all budding potters! Blessings, -Katrina

@Alexa Peters Keep checking craigslist, how much experience have you got with pottery? I know theres a clay community in Alberta. Have you considered finding a local potter and taking some lessons? Or joining the local potters club? Great ways to get used equipment. Email me if you like and I'll help you find connections in your area. azsweetpixels@gmail.com

For what your friend asked about, having the spirals go the other direction. You could also make your wheel spin in the other direction. It might be a little different for your coördination, but I find pulling up much easier than going down.

Hey John, great video! I was thinking about what your friend said to make the spirals the other way for right-handers. What you could do is reverse the direction on your wheel and do it left - handed. Might be easier to control the shape than trying to spiral going from the top down.

Jon! How do you cups not warp when you pull them off the wheel? Am I throwing my walls to thin? Every piece I pull off the wheel warps ☹️. Bats save lives
@benpatterson44525 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I keep mine on bats as well. The trick to moving them batless, is picking them up, directly from the bottom. I've seen plenty off potters move them without a bat, and the wares warp in the move, only to go back to true once set down.
@MikeTheMaker15 жыл бұрын
For those of us new to pottery what are bats?
@tattmodd16605 жыл бұрын
Bats are plastic disks you can attach to your wheel via “bat pins”. That’s what the holes in the wheel head are for. They make it so you can cut you piece and lift off wheel without having to touch the raw clay at all.
@benpatterson44525 жыл бұрын
