For those that want to know - the Featherstone Peridot UL2 is effectively the same exact tent, same cost but with the only difference being - taller side panels for more privacy. Also, it is green rather than bright orange. For me - a win - win.

But.....The Nemo is made with the Osmo fabric, which is a mix of polyester and nylon and it's Ripstop over that. The granite is using a cheap Silnylon, not even rip. Hanson hided that fact to everyone..

I bought a Mobi Garden tent from Amazon. Same mesh inner, simple x for the poles so less head room, but it has 2 doors. The fly is silvered and keeps you very warm. Only $65

they’re sold out on featherstone’s website as well. i reached out to them and ask when they are restocking. they told me they’re holding off, because they’re doing upgrades to them. they will then release them in october. so, if you can hold off a little longer, i would just wait for the revised versions.

The Naturehike Mongar2 would have been a more equal comparison because it has the same tent structure as the Featherstone. Two vestibules, two doors, comes in lots of colors. Mine is dark purple.

@eric_hanson A good friend of mine has the Cloudup (which is an exact replica of the Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2), and even though it's the lighter option, I went with the Mongar 2 for all the same reasons you like the Granite 2 - 2 doors, more headroom and floorspace, 2 vestibules, easier setup, etc., so I 100% think the Mongar is the better choice between that and the Cloudup.

Mongar 2 15d (blue) with titanium stakes is lighter weight than the 20d version and is marginally cheaper. It is still good and I've slept over 4 and half months in it with no issues.

My first tent when I started backpacking was the old version of this. It was almost a pound heavier than the new version. It was still an amazing option for just getting started. I sold it to a friend who still uses it.

My first budget tent was the 1P version of the Featherstone tent. It is a really good tent, and holds up well in the wind. I only started using something else because I needed something a little lighter, and I want 2 doors. I'll definitely be keeping it as a backup option, though.

I own the the Featherstone myself and have used it for 6 nights. While it is a great tent in many ways it does have 2 flaws that have me looking to upgrade.The first and biggest for me is the bathtub floor is just not quite high enough. Of the 6 nights I used it 4 of them it rained. 2 of those nights had heavy downpours. The tent allowed splash backs inside the tent. One of the 2 nights I expected the weather and had it guyed out completely to give myself all the advantages I could against the wind and driving rain but my quilt and some gear still got a little damp. The second flaw is just inherent to the sil nylon material. It holds water like a sponge and sags significantly when it rained. My other buddies tents ( both had Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 2’s), only had slight amounts of sag relative to mine. I haven’t completely decided yet as I’m in that category of only using a tent a few nights a year but I believe I may just pay the $$$ and go with the Nemo Dragonfly specifically because of the higher bathtub floor and the more sag resistant fabric. If you use it in a dry or semi-arid climate then definitely the Featherstone is a fantastic choice but in areas that experience potential for significant rain you may want to weigh your options.

I debated on the naturehike and the featherstone for my first tent. I ended up with the naturehike a few years ago. I go by myself and have enjoyed it. It kept me dry in some pretty long cold rainy days. I use it in mostly shoulder seasons in the Northeast, with temps between 34-60'sF. I luckily haven't had an issue with condensation. If I get another tent I will definitely be looking into the featherstone again. That seemed like a big difference in space!

I just upgraded my old Naturehike cloud up 2 .. many of these tents are adapted from current or past designs of high end tents but built more economically. That means good tents for less. I only upgraded because I needed something that had the bike pack sized poles.. otherwise I would still be using my Cloud Up2 (the old semi-freestanding version) which is light as a feather

I have cloud up 3, which works well for me, one other person and a dog. It has a brow pole, so that helps, but I don’t like the front door. When I upgrade, I’ll be looking for a side entry with 2 vestibules.

That's the exact tent I use when I'm canoe camping. If you go an Amazon, there is a long setup and review video... that video was done by me. Excellent tent, and I got it for $70 back in the day :)

Great review Eric. It's really good to know that the Featherstone is out there. If I was just doing shorter trips I'd probably pick it for the extra room and double doors. Since I usually do longer trips I'd probably pick the Nature Hike (maybe even the 1 person version), for the weight savings because I always sleep in my tent alone. Another You Tuber put the Naturhike through a crazy wind test which really impressed me so that would also sway my decision in that direction. Either way, the Featherstone looks like a fantastic tent and if a beginner needs a new tent that can accommodate 2, it sounds like a no brainer.

Great find. Yes, the BA Copper Spur and Nemo Hornet are VERY expensive tents. It would be interesting to purchase one of these FeatherStone tents and then see how it holds up over time: how does the seam tape hold up, are there any issues getting a pole segment replaced if necessary, etc. We have some Big Agnes tents in our local outdoors club's inventory to lend to members. As you can imagine, they get abused and so parts and repair availability have been very imporant to us. But the Copper Spur tents in particular are SO EXPENSIVE now that we can't help but look more broadly for more affordable tents to replace the BA ones as they age out.

Nice looking tent, like so many other 2 door, 2p, 2 vestibule tents. But at 4lbs plus, that is 1990s ultralight weights and 2x what most modern 2p tents weigh.

I have the Cloud Up 3 for me and my son and really like it. First time using it really impressed me, it managed 60kph of sustained wind here in Newfoundland with rain beating down for 6 hours, stayed bone dry and sturdy. Was thinking about the 2 for solo camping but I might wait for this Featherstone instead. It has been out of stock on Amazon Canada for awhile now so I will wait and see, won't need it until spring now anyway.

Thanks Eric. I went ultra cheap and tried a couple and they didn't vent well or large enough for me to get in and out of. I ended up taking a Walmart tent and sewing a reinforcement in the roof so when I took the fiberglass poles away and used my hiking poles, I had a 3 lb tent. It worked better than expected on the 4 passes loop in Colorado and a couple other outings. 😊😊

Great tent indeed! One thing you forgot to mention though. You can set up the rain fly without the tent if you have the footprint. This kept my wife, college aged son, 65lb dog, myself and all our gear dry on a gnarly stretch of VT’s Long Trail over Camel’s Hump last week when a wicked storm blew through mid-day.

I have the featherstone obsidian one person, retail $120 I paid $87, here is my review after almost two years of use. Pros: it's cheap, it's roomy, it's sil nylon so it's durable, does hold up to wind and rain well (storm worthy). Cons: it's slightly on the heavy side at 3 pounds 12 ounces; albeit it's versatile in that you can ditch the inner tent and just use rainfly and footprint for lightweight setup, mine did start to leak after year of use (reseamed sealed fixed problem). Overall solid tent for price, God bless.

In Australia (converted back to USD$ for your audience): Featherstone 2P $145 Dagger Osmo 2P $475 SilNylon vs Osmo. 7007 vs DAC poles. No Landing Zone vs Landing Zone. It’s a shame the Granite 2P isn’t actually available but given I have a Dagger 3P for 2P use and a Hornet 2P for 1P use I’d consider the Featherstone Granite 2P for 1P car or short hike camping assuming they restock it at the same price which could be wishful thinking on the price aspect given all the hits on the product page arising from this (great) review video.

I’ve had the feather stone for a few years, and while it’s heavier than I am personally willing to take backpacking (since budget is still important to me, I have the old-school drop version of the Durston, 2P), it is definitely my go to car camping tent now, especially in the deserthere in Southern California where trekking pole tents can be a little annoying. More than 4 pounds for a tent is a lot. But other than that, it is incredibly solid.

you should check out the Naturehike Mongar 2. I feel its a better option than the cloud up as it has two vestibules, two vents, 53 inches of floor width and a good amount of interior storage. It's only $119 and weighs 4.7lbs

I purchased a very similar tent on Amazon called the Tooca 2 person tent and ended up giving it to a buddy. I think I purchased the Tooca 2 person for $49 and had all the same specs as this one. The Tooca held up for me for the first 2 years of backpacking season and my buddy loves it. Sadly the Tooca 2 person is MIA at Amazon now 😢

My biggest complaint about the Naturehike Cloudup 1 was the entry way and space. So awkward trying to get into my sleeping bag and getting out of the tent. I really liked those clips though, and it did alright for me in the rain

A lot of mid-grade tent companies are going back to polyester because it doesn't stretch. The Sil-nylon tents when they get wet will stretch so much, trekking poles can tip through the night unless you adjust often in wet conditions. I have an old Hyke and Byke 2p tent that is structurally very similar but I think its polyester and its around 4 lbs, which is ok split between my wife and I but if I am solo hiking, 4lb is far too heavy for me. I almost bought this one but the specs were just too similar and I talked myself out of it! I typically use the Lanshan 2 and it stretches like crazy, I also surprisingly enjoy the River Country Trekker 2.2 for cooler weather. Thank you for bringing budget minded tents to YT. Not everyone can do a $600 dyneema tent so its nice to see hiking gear for regular people!

But now the technology is getting better and poly is getting closer and closer to match the nylon with not having the sag problem. Very cool but I thought the Sil Nylon doesn’t perform as well as Sil Poly in rain? I love my Nemo dagger osmo and a lot of the details are what keeps me coming back. Granted, I picked it up at an REI garage sale for less than half the price so for that, it’s worth the extra money.

_Interesting..._ I just got a tent that's about _95%_ similar to that Featherstone: the Forceatt 2/3 person (really like a 2+) person tent. _Exact_ same design. Literally looking at it I would assume it was the same tent if it weren't for the different name on the ends. It's maybe a bit bigger (88"x53") but also around the 5.1(according to comments) to 5.5(according to amazon page) pound range. Although my bigger issue is just my gosh it takes up a _huge_ space in my pack since it doesn't pack up very small. The Forceatt is also about $73 as of writing, so it seems like it's a saving of $30 vs saving one pound. (Forceatt also has _slightly_ higher solid panels before switching to mesh)

I love my Naturehike cloud up 2, although its just myself in the tent, I use it year round in summer and winter, everyone has a certain preference on what they like in a tent, I like the front entrance and others may not. but I cant see spending hundreds of dollars on a tent when these can perform just as good!

Whenever I've use a tadpole style tent like the North Face I always leave the vestibule wide open with the mesh door closed for ventilation, obviously not in a heavy rain though.

I have a cloud up 2. Only had it in a light rain which it did fine but I hate that one door on the front. No way 2 people can fit in it but otherwise I like my cheap tents. They work fine for me. I just can’t see the 5 or 6 hundred dollar and up tents. Thanks for this one.

The Monger 2 is pretty much a copy of the MSR Hubba Hubba NX, except for peak height, and is $200+ less expensive. Basically the same 3.5 to 4 lbs.

How about the REI tents? The Trailmade, Trailhut, and Halfdome SL. They’re more expensive than this but go on sale often and that drops the price pretty dramatically. I like REI’s return policy too

Please ask LMNT to include ALL of their available flavors in their sample pack. I tried their caramel chocolate flavor by buying a 30 count then thought it was gross. I also would like them to bring back chocolate Chai as a 30 count; I would drink that flavor every day!

I'll see what I can do! I love all the fruity or citrus flavors but the chocolate ones I'm lower on. But I think LMNT will bring back flavors like Chai around winter time.

Take a look at the Asta Gear Carbon Fibre moon chair. It is about 750grams including the case, and costs a lot lest than either the Nemo or the Helinox. Definitely worth a look for those what are not willing to spend stupid money on a chair.

Looks nice tho Edit: Looks like you linked the Featherstone Obsidian in the description but your review is about the Granite. The Granite being significantly bigger. Still not quite big enough for me, but much better than I first thought after seeing the dimensions of the tent you linked.

Yeah being tall sucks, severly limits the opportunities for bargains :(. I went for a BA Copper Spur long last year for a freestanding tent, almost the only option of you want some extra lenght. Now i am looking for a trekking pole tent for 6ft5 people and its hell. I actually hate all the Xmid content now :p, so much content on that one but just too short for me.

@@cheri7828 Yeah that is a good reccomendation, but alas i live in Europe and i found only one store (in stock) selling them for 499 euro, or $550. Thats way too much. Closest thing i could find was the SMD Skyscape Trekker. I might try that one out if i dont plan any vacations tot the states.

Hi eric ive been watching your videos lately. I have the same tent you have in this video the naturehike cloudup2, which i use in my hikes here in the philippines. I usually travel alone but sometimes with my girlfriend and it is a good tent really. I want a 2 door tent but my budget really cant afford that feature for now. Good videos always.

I have the nature hike and a lanshan. The Cloud Up 2 and the Lanshan 3F UL. For one person they are both extremely comfortable. But for the cloud up 2 I can see where it could be a little tight with two people in there with two air mats and gear. When I buy a tent, I never agree with their recommendation on how many people it can fit. Even for the most expensive tents it's just now true.
