Joola has created the most Hype ever for this new generation of paddles. They all have a “Propulsion core” and hit the ball really hard, here’s my thoughts on The Magnus. #pickleball #podcast #pickleball #pickleballdoubles #pickleballislife #ppatour #apptour #joola #paddlereview #paddlenerd

Paying that much for a product that has quality standard issues is the only reason I will pass up on these even if they sound like a lot of fun. When they get more consistent QC and their paddles stop failing surface grip test I will buy one, but by the time that happens other companies will have already release similar products for cheaper.

If you can generate topspin, you will be more able to control it. Otherwise many shots will go out if you swing hard

This is 100% accurate! I demoed one at my local lifetime and they have crazy power and spin but the moment you miss hit or have no spin it rockets out not sure I’m gonna purchase one quite yet.

I 100% agree with the power statements made and I 100% disagree with the "you can't control it" statements. I have the Magnus and loved it from day 1 and had no problem controlling it. I came from a Gen 2 Perseus. Joola says, "the paddle knows what kind of shot you're trying to hit and helps you hit it" and this is a statement I 100% agree with.

I don’t disagree that the right players will learn to control it and it will be an advantage. My playing style is aggressive and I like to swing hard. I also don’t have a tennis background and think my play style is not very pretty! 🥴 So it was really tough for me to get used to. I’m playing with the Scorpeus 16mm now and i love that paddle though, review coming soon!

I’m wondering if the new Vatic Pro Oni will have anywhere near the power of the Joolas. It seems to have a core similar to the gearbox but hopefully it will have more control and bigger sweetspot. Especially the Flash version. At $160 it will be more accessible if it is a good paddle. Looking forward to reviews once it hits the market.

Any reason for the 16mm vs the 14mm? 16mm grip is a little too big and is a bit slower in the hands than the 14mm
@ThePicklePulse
@ThePicklePulse 2 ай бұрын
I typically like the 16mm version of most paddles, I started with that one simply because of that. I also grabbed the Magnus because I love the SelKirk Power Air and thought the shape was a good fit. I’m realizing now that I think I would have rather had a hybrid shape like the Hyperion.

Coming from college tennis background. Enjoy my Ruby. Wanted to add the Perseus 3 16mm. It's a learning curve, everyday I get better with it. But it's challenging. Normally takes me 1-3 games to get accustomed to a paddle. This one is different. If you can master it. You will be rewarded. I hope in 3 more weeks.

Let me know your progress, I agree it’s worth it if you can get it dialed!
@americanhero6965

@@ThePicklePulse I have dialed in and now feel totally comfortable with the P3 16mm. It took me 3 weeks of 4 days a week 2 hour sessions. What I learned was to concentrate on the shot. For returns- not do a full swing while making my way in to kitchen. Blast drives with a short swing. Big tennis swing not neccessary unless needing it to drop and stay in. Dinks and drops are effortless. Let the paddle do the work- just direct it and strike it at sweet spot. I can save any shot and do a wrist only drop or dink from anywhere on court. I absolutely love the P3 16mm and have a Hyperion 3 14mm that is less plush and stiffer and I would say easier to hit. But I prefer the P3 16mm. I’m coming from tennis, Racketball, table tennis, badminton. And hit 7 different forehands: tennis- topspin, slice, inside slice, outside slice, inside/outside, etc, racketball forehand/slice/top etc

Would you recommend this paddle for a person whose grip has their pointer finger on the paddle (similar to a Rob Cassidy/ Dawson grip)? Thanks!
@ThePicklePulse
@ThePicklePulse Ай бұрын
I actually think that might work out well. The face is longer on the Magnus so your finger should never really get in the way. I would also say two things: 1. Buy it in person, you never know what you’re going to get grit wise 2. If you have never used a power paddle demo it first. These paddles are tough to get used to!

Thx for the very pointed and honest review. While I look for “the better” paddle, and new tech, power alone isn’t worth $300 (tax and shipping), unless somehow accompanied by control and spin. In the final analysis, we play with what works best for our mechanics. As in tennis, the wonder racquet/paddle that does it all, power, spin, and control from all areas of the court, will likely never happen. Perhaps a demo, but as you stated, fun to mess around with but not in tournaments when you need to trust your gear.

The rating is 97, 97, 98 so how is not good for power and spin and control? Is that not average scores from all types of shots no matter where you are on the court?

These new hot paddles are fun and games until they show up on the other side of the net. I've notice older rec players having these hot paddles with no control at all. Some of the older women refuse to play against them. They are definitely changing the game.

The QC is definitely questionable, they all have the USPA approved label on them which means that all amateurs will be ok to play with them in tournaments Legal or not. It’s sad, my hope is that the power paddles get more scrutiny in the future!

Someone needs to investigate. Did Joola bribe someone at the USAPA? Who removed this rule and why? 2.E.6.f Springs or spring-like material, flexible membranes or any compressible material that creates a trampoline effect. Joola's paddles would not meet 2023 standards and they are bragging about their paddles having the same effect? "Austin Kim, Product Manager at JOOLA. The “Propulsion Core” was engineered to create a “catapult effect”
