John Lennon said in order to make it, you have to be a bastard. Well, Bobby Whitlock isn't a bastard, he's a nice guy. And as you can see here, it's hard for him to understand people who are bastards. That's the only reason Bobby's not a super star. It's certainly not due to a lack of talent.

@Mellissa Boomer of the Night I think I agree with you, for the most part; however, Jim Gordon’s place in musical history got very twisted very quickly. Certainly, he was one of the “super A-list“ drummers of his day. Still, his use of certain insidious chemicals - some illicit, some not - led to a very tragic ending which would have been a nightmare for any public relations department… Schizophrenia, even schizoid-affect, does not occur instantaneously. Had he not been imbibing so much as he was perceived to have been, fellow musicians might have been able to lend him a hand. It is what it is, but that part of his history could be a big part of Derek and the Dominoes not being inducted as they should be. When it comes to is, imho, just another trophy that gets left behind when our souls move ahead. A little recognition for what we did here for us to enjoy here - but delineations must be made and, sadly, people get left out of awards ceremonies… For a lot less than what Mr Gordon did... psychiatric conditions not with standing. Mr Whitlock would know a lot more than I, though even his knowledge would fall short of the whole story because they were not joined at the hip. Merely offered as an aside as to the many reasons awards carry such little meaning in the long run. It is what one does for the people around them, like what Mr Whitlock is doing right now - trying to set the records straight (no pun intended) that really matter… Right?

I am still somewhat new to all of your wonderful series of memories, but it has never ceased to amaze me how refreshing your attitude and gratefulness is. I think it's commendable that you didn't allow yourself to acquire an inflated ego, unlike some musicians who shall remain nameless. You seem to have always been true to yourself even through the fog of drugs and alcohol in the early years. That's another thing... I had to do time in a county jail in Oakland and then two years in rehab before I was able to really see myself and change my behavior (and my life). I want to thank you for being real and loving to your friends and wife. It is like that ripple effect people talk about, with your love and honesty radiating outward-- we are all fortunate to be recipients and become just instantly happy.

So nice and up-standing of you to give someone like Eric the props he deserved. A lot of people in the music business would have carried the resentment for the rest of their lives never wondering what Clapton’s side or view of the subject was. He gets enough press! So true in Life. Don’t just assume - one has to make certain that Forgiveness is upfront and honest. Actions DO speak louder than words; so, EC stepped up and showed that he really mean it by making it happen for you. Wish you two were closer than it seems you are you are presently as you share so many fabulous times. He has been “used” so many times without carrying resentment because I believe he hasn’t even noticed he was “used“. Most of us use and just say “well, that’s the way goes in the music business.“ You are a shining example of how, “No. That is Not the way it has to go in the music business.” The whole world would be better off right now if we all took the time to say I’m sorry - if we all took the time to start looking around - up from our own bellybuttons - and look at the other people! A little bit of time can often turn our lives around in very positive ways. Why do so many of us take so blooming long to ask the right people “What’s wrong? Did I hurt you?“ Or, “hey, I’ve been meaning to ask you, what are you up to? We wrote some good stuff, We haven’t written in forever… Let’s get that together and toss some ideas around in a few weeks…“ Then actually follow through on it. Okay. I’ll get off my soapbox before someone pushes me… It hurts more to be pushed ha ha! As always, God bless, thank you both for your time, and I thank God for Bobby’s memories - even the spontaneous ones are some of the best…! Like “ oh, that was those yellow bellbottoms I had…“ Without your memory, that would be lost to history - and it’s interesting! Stay safe and know that you are loved . Respects, Roctor 🎸👨🏼⚕️🎸🏴🇬🇧🇺🇸🏴😊😉💟✝️

This recording is priceless and should be kept archived somewhere until the end of time. I am so grateful to be able to hear the stories about my favourite album of all time. Thank you *so* much. PS. Thank you again Bobby Whitlock for giving me kind words about my recording on MySpace, “Dusk Of Dawn”, that I wrote for my then girlfriend that left me with seemingly no explanation. My user name was Din Litma. You told me that if she had the ability to understand and see how beautiful it was, she would be right there by my side with me now. You also told me “I love what you do” as a comment on one of my recordings. This was back around 2004 give or take a year, 16 years ago perhaps, and I remember it so clearly because it has always meant so much to me, and made me feel good about myself. Happy New Year to you and your wife, wishing you nothing but happiness in the future, and let me know if touring ever takes you near Victoria or Vancouver, BC, Canada, I will be there in the front row.

Thankyou CoCo for posting all these videos, they are as precious as that Layla album. It is fascinating to hear Bobby talk about this period and better than any documentary or bio book could ever be. What a lovely person, I like to hear him laugh!!! Whitlock & Clapton was as good as Lennon & McCartney and Jagger & Richards, the shame is Eric didn't realize it! To hear you 'Tell the Truth' about how the band started, then finished with you leaving the UK is as deep as the love songs themselves, its very sad. Eric has a vast catalogue and a great career but I think he must owe you a lot since the Dominoes was his greatest achievement. Your contribution is overshadowed by the Allman-Pattie-Layla story but what comes across from the recordings is the power and inspiration of your vocals, as well as that fantastic drummer and of course the great man himself. 'Got to get better in a little while' is my favorite Dominoes track. I recently found a surprising fact that the Dominoes played in my town of Bournemouth UK at the seaside Pier Pavilion on 18 August 1970, if Bobby can remember anything about that gig it would be great to hear about it. Its another great shame that Jools Holland didn't ask you and Eric to play more than just Bell Bottom Blues on that show, the world was denied you and him singing it all again for the sake of rock 'n' roll history just like Cream did a few years ago.
