I couldn't watch the whole of this. Tears welled up in my eyes. A great competitor on the field reduce to this by a cruel, cruel disease. Absolutely heartbreaking. He was one of the greatest scrum-halves of the game - a complete 9 - and an inspiration to South Africa and those who remember him. Your feats will never be forgotten, regardless of the Motor Neurone's progress. I wish you all the best and will always remember you during your prime.

definatly the most talented scrum half ever to play the game. I remember every time watching him wheh he got the ball you always thought he could make something happen, whether it was wiping a lightening pass or sniping from the base of a ruck, looked always a pest to defend against, has great strength and in broken play he could pop up from anywhere and score a try. it's heartbreaking to see what MND has done to him, but it is also inspiring that he's not giving up and he's doing his best in life with what he can. True legend Joost!!

MND is such a horrific degenerative decease. Your mind and heart are almost fully functional, but your muscles simply begin to lose all their functionality, including your breathing. Your Mind is in costant battle with the Body until your final moment, because the Mind thinks the body is in a healthy state and keeps sending its nornal signals, but the Body is just not able to comply. I really hope there comes a cure in the not to distant future.
