1. have a daily routine; waking up at the same time everyday, EATING BREAKFAST, EATING AT THE RIGHT TIME, etc. 2. plan, strategize your day, how you want it to be, for example on google calendar. 3. start by little, if you can't concentrate very well, try concentrating for 20 minutes, then take a break, then 30 minutes, and so on. • incremental improvement. • micro habits. 4. avoid, eliminate, and limit distractions.

I used to be afraid to leave the house. When I got a dog I had no choice but to take up the responsibility of walking him, and sure enough as my walks became longer and longer I grew in confidence. I started saying "hi" to strangers when we made eye contact and also when they did (I'm in the UK, it's normal). I stopped worrying that I would end up dehydrated or starving and anxious.

reading: on-computer time + working customer service have both been very bad for my reading comprehension. (customer service in particular involves scanning screen looking for specific information, ie "your balance in february was...") my own out with reading a book or text of some sort: read out loud or transcribe it. breakfast: if you binge watch a lot of youtube/netflix or do a lot of gaming, it's most easy to simply go from bed to couch first thing in the AM and stay there -at least on days off from work/school. have had success in making myself eat breakfast/get dressed/clean up, then walk around block at least once before i do anything on computer or tv or phone. the electronic/online world can do without me for an hour, and i can do without it for an hour. thank you Dr Peterson!

It is similar to what one would WANT to get from the effects of micro-dosing, though I would say safer, and in a lot of ways more interesting -- but you have to choose what you do with your time, even if you have the ABILITY to concentrate, you have to set an intention to use your energy in ways that would make your time meaningful...Even if that wasn't about nootropic use, of course, Jordan Peterson, I'm sure, would agree with me.

Becoming aware of your awareness to the pace at which your are comfortably processing the information you are attempting to absorb means that you are not overloaded and can process within your comfort zone. You can reduce the speed of playback on Utube videos by Jordan if you wish so that the tempo is in sync with your mind. You do this when you become aware that its too much too fast for you to process. A second example would be saying to a person you are listening too. Look i really need you to slow down so i can processes what your saying. ( we all have friends who habitually deliver information at 100 mph make sure your not that person) We are often too inappropriately polite to do this, so need to mentally rehearse this so it becomes a habit and then you will be actively listening. This will also earn respect and improve your confidence. Andy

I normally love JP, but this was massively wordy nonsense and a loooong way round the mullberry bush to achieve the desired outcobe. Three far more simple rules for concentration and focus are the following, because at the age of 28 I was a mentally scattered mess. After just 3 months I had a totally changed mind. 1. Cut out drugs. 2. Cut out alcohol. 3. Learn meditation. In short, 1 and 2 clean out the neurones of your brain from extraneous and polluting sustances which CAUSE distraction, and then take up a PRACTICE of concentration and focus, ie meditation. Anything you practice you become better at. So, if the question is "How do I become more concentrated and focus?", the root answer is "Practise concentration and focus". But first, the organ of concentration and focus must be clean and capable to do the work. (From a teacher of meditation for 35 years. It works, trust me).
@grenetin60625 жыл бұрын
Im quite sure this advice was directed to someone who takes no harmful substances. I can see why you thought it is wordy, but nonsensical it isn't. He said we should make our circadian rhythm stable (and eat a good breakfast), design your ideal day with a calendar and improve your habits incrementally.
@thedolphin54285 жыл бұрын
@@grenetin6062 1. You cannot "be SURE" the questioner was drug free and neither could JP, so why not mention that proviso??? 2. All of his suggestions were massively INDIRECT, lifestyle mods, whereas the root CAUSE(S) of mental scatteredness are 100% psychobiological. 3. He listed ?10? things to do, which even I found overwhelming to listen to. Heaven help the scatterbrained teenager to implement such a list of mid-long term goals. My recipe will take 2 to 4 weeks to provide immeasurable AND PERMANENT results. Sorry, but our beloved JP went all out "word salad" on this one!
