That is so dam good. I feel like that compelling-ness is a big part of what people connect with in a story like The Lord of the Rings. Why do you need to take part in a lecture while you are in School? Is his stuff worth credits? I'm in College but I learn more from the internet than I do in school. Self drive > debt based education.
@jovi_way6 жыл бұрын
I feel the exact same way
@StonkeyKong6 жыл бұрын
+walperstyle This is exactly what I'm implying though... his lectures aim to self-motivate people and give them a greater reason to *want* to learn instead of simply going to school to get a degree. I spend all of my free time learning now because I have a passion for my field. However, in school you have so much free time and the world just gives you a pass for everything. Being in college is one of the most liberating times of your life, once you start working you have a lot less time to "self drive" to learn on your own. As I said, I still do it, but it's much different now.
@StonkeyKong6 жыл бұрын
+Marine Comm I agree, and I do read a lot now. The reason I wish I saw these lectures *before* I graduated is because when you're going to school you literally have an entire 4 years of your life carved out specifically for learning (I could have made a lot more of it). You could focus on nothing else and no one will judge you. Once you start working you don't have this privilege.

I just figured out what makes Peterson's message so different from everybody else's. He's not a moral relativist. He's not afraid of using the word "good" without having to say, "in my opinion". To the relativist we have no authority to say that one thing is better than another because, hey, they might feel differently about it in Northern Zanzibar or something, and who are we to say...? He says, "Shake the lead out and do some good for the world", because that's what you were born to do and that's your best bet for a good life. That's all. And you know what? I'll bet they think exactly like that in Northern Zanzibar...

Chris Jones change Northern Zanzibar to any third world country and relativist to first would country and you have pointed out the most important social issue the world faces in current times

Devils, aren't they? Always knocking the props out from under you and trying to put you in that dream where you try to run but you can't move. Soon they'll ban the racist words of Socrates and Plato and take Shakespeare off the study-list. Soon you'll be put in jail for quoting Winston Churchill and the statue of blind justice will be seen as misogynistic and will be torn down and replaced by one of those Lenin statues where he's leaning out into the crowd, beard first, and looking all serious. Soon our internal circuitry will be so at-cross-purposes that we won't be able to pour a glass of water on our heads if our hair catches on fire. The leftists are real and they are truly a scheming bunch of fuck-heads, aren't they. It all starts with winning the argument with them...

Jordan Peterson is a total ravenclaw
@itznoxy71936 жыл бұрын
He's a total Gryffindor man. Only Gryffindors voluntarily confront chaos. Other 3 houses don't do shit in 7 books. That's because Gryffindor represents courage. That's the reason why they always win. Because they dare to. It is a symbol that the virtue of courage is more enduring than all the virtues of the other houses combined. Gryffindor embodies courage and that is the true reason Harry, Ron, and Hermione were sorted there when by their descriptions they would have been better suited in Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw respectfully. It's not that they don't have attributes that would have made them good in those houses, it's that there is something more important. The thing that unites them as 3 individuals is their courage which transcends all other virtues. Gryffindor is not a normal house. Gryffindor embodies greatness. Gryffindor transcends the other houses like the separated top of the pyramid transcends the base. That's one of the main messages of the whole story. Rowling couldn't have been more on point. And it's quite consilient with Peterson's work.
