Nike/Jordan is a retro shoe company. They can’t sell new shoes. As an OG that’s been in the sneaker game since 85 when the Jordan 1 released (I’m 49), they were GROUNDBREAKING! Now I have 3 up and coming future pro athlete sons. The oldest of the 3 told me he doesn’t want Jordans anymore…that he wants the AE1s. I was surprised.

Yeah I was literally born in 85 so I've no idea how the Jordan 1 release went. But I do know the ae 1s are fire however u can't compare the performances of mj and ant. Mj was leading the league in scoring from day one and always had ice in his veins. Ant has been in the league for years now and has up and downs and basically disappeared this year in the playoffs. So I think its more about the fact that the shoes r fire.

I like Ant and the advertising campaign. But the shoe doesn't do it for me. It's interesting, and some colorways hit, but something about em just doesn't do it. I think it's how it laces. The side profile view is neat tho. The A.E. script font logo is cool, but the actual logo he has is lacking imo. But this year, I can maybe say they won.

Nike basketball has been coasting for the last 10 years. The books aren’t bad but the didn’t release the better colorways and didn’t put them on Nike id. The AE 1 is a good combination of design and being able to buy the colorways a player is having highlighted/ key moments in.

Nike basketball hasn’t marketed their products in years. And they aren’t bang for your compared to other brands. And their most marketable athletes are OLD. If JA didn’t blow it, he’s at least on par with AE in the market place. So much of it is marketing, visibility, perception and price point. And when it comes to trends, let’s be real, most people have to be told what’s cool. That’s why we have a whole influencer culture now. AE caught a wave, but nothing suggests Adidas will sustain it.
