The most awkward and at the same time the most beautiful speech ever i heard in game conventions...

Yeah he's not comfortable speaking in front of people, but what he has to say is profound.

the fact that he bought up carl jung just topped it off for me. this is a man who did magnificent things as a young man pioneering & inspiring a pathway for game developers to follow & pulled it off on equipment now considered archaic. archer maclean is another with his dropzone game.

MFW Jordan called the chompers "slicers"...All these years...the last 25 years + years of my life. All the hundreds of play throughs on all of the ports and then all of the emulated playthroughs over the years, and then the tireless hours I spent recreated classic Prince Of Persia in 2.5d. All this time my brother and I called them chompers and Jordan Mechner busts my bubble in this beautiful speech!

Prince of Persia on Sega was the very first game I've ever played in my life. I was born in 1989, and played the game with my Mother around age 4. I have never beaten it, and its still hard even as a 27 year old. I like the Sega genesis version better than the original version on PC. The original seems whitewashed when it's supposed to be Arabic looking people. Sega genesis' Prince of Persia got the characters right. I support everything Prince of Persia, and I have all the games that ever came out. Jordan Mechner is a fantastic individual. Not the best speaker in the world, maybe due to nerves, but he definitely is an intelligent and artistic man. Prince of Persia 1989 was before its time.

Fantastic presentation. Prince of Persia was a significant element in my early childhood so I figured I'd get to know its creator a little more. As someone who is very interested in Jung's work, I was honestly stunned to find out that Jordan conceptualizes the king, adventurer, shadow, and princess in much the same way as I do. It's a truly archetypal story. But putting the psychological story aside, I found the story behind Prince of Persia's development very inspiring, especially the rotoscopic methods employed to give the game such a realistic feel. I burst out laughing when I saw his brother running and jumping. Those specific movements have been etched into my mind and were so recognizable.

why aren't those people clapping like crazy when he shows those awesome examples about Prince of Persia!?!?

Edmo Freitas because they are brain damaged by today's society of high expectations and are clueless to the genius behind Mechner's mind

I think they may have been like me. Just listening very attentively. For some people it's a sign of respect to just sit quietly and listen. Perhaps they knew he's a genius and were kind of in awe of the game's beauty.

Something about this audience, he keeps pausing for applause at appropriate times and nothing happens, it must be a cultural difference.

I've heard him in interviews before, he's usually nervous, bet humble and not a huge fan of speaking publicly. The audience is absolutely terrible tho, completely emotionless

I always thought that Prince of Persia might have been influenced by Pitfall, that game has a lot of qualities that would later become associated with Prince of Persia and its imitators.
