Self-critiques have taken me from emotional poverty to being, mostly, happy. I live in the world of suffering like everyone else but deliberate movement from where I was to where I want to be has saved my life. It all starts by admitting what you aren't good at -- by your standards and in relation to where you want to be, that is.
@JotaShank
@JotaShank 6 жыл бұрын
What if you're not good at some social interactions. Like public speaking, making new friends (talking to strangers whom you should meet), making great impressions, poor self control in stressful/anxious situations? Because that's what I'm struggling with and it can be crippling. I want to master my actions, be a genuine person, have genuine compassion and the courage to act upon it, and not be a quiet sheep just because of shyness, even though I know what should/has to be said or done (even though sometimes I only know after something happens and I don't respond the right way)... I mean, give me some insight, what did you do exactly, to break free?
@JuliusAhenkora
@JuliusAhenkora 6 жыл бұрын
Honestly facing your fears is the only way to get over your shyness/anxiety in situations. You wan't to be able to choose your struggle, don't let it manifest into the later years of your life and become a larger dragon that's hard to get rid of in a sense.

Did you need someone to inspire you to do those trivial things? Weak. What is this species becoming?
@coreycox2345
@coreycox2345 7 жыл бұрын
My concept was to get the trivial things out of the way first so that I could do the life altering soul searching unencumbered. I have changed my thinking, as a million other trivialities spring up in their place. (I have a lot of problems concentrating on things that bore me.) Well, I haven't tried it yet, but it does not sound like it will result in trivial things. I am hoping to revive some part of my younger self who was out to change the world then was quashed by my older, more realistic self who saw the kind of trouble that one can get in doing this. Except I forgot my login. Maybe I just did it on my own, Mr. Kontrolminister. :)

School asking you what your plans are??? Whats the point in that? How can they expect students to follow a curriculum that clearly doesn't give a shit about their plans or what makes them happy by asking them what their plans are and what makes them happy? School is designed to crush the dreams of kids before they can even hatch. Luckily I spent most of my time skipping school and playing Mario Kart. At least that game actually asked me who I wanted to be. I usually chose Bowser or Donkey Kong.

Being an introvert it seems that you're more prone to assess who and what you are more readily, compared to extroverts. That said, being that we're human and inundated with so much information in a lifetime ...let alone on a daily basis.. assessing who and what you are isn't a one and done thing. And for that matter, your life goals. It seems to me this should be done maybe every two or three years. Maybe even more often, or less often, depending on age.

Interesting comment on dysfunctional ants, though Beatrice de Laat. It seems that if we knew what caused them to lose the scent, we would know what would get them back on track. Behaviourist Robert Sapolsky talks about the group intelligence of ants, which I found fascinating. They will choose the most efficient transportation routes between several points as well as sophisticated engineering models by the numbers of trips that they make between them. I had not realised ants were so smart.
7 жыл бұрын
In fact, I know a lot about ants because I read the trilogy ("The Ants") of Bernard Werber ;) And, as for this dysfunctional behavior of ants, he wrote that it's the same for humans ; if one isn't aware of what our situation is, we can't go ahead & die...

So what if you skipped the development that "normal" people do at 2 years old, most of it until puberty and you end up being the said King, but recognizing your social contacts as those "subsets of personality"(because lots of siblings, but no real "parents"). The first Part keeps you from properly growing up and the second moves you into solitude, cuz nobody wants to reflect and grow, but just make money. So you end up as a Shaman, spiritual leader sort of person, but you now have no more social contacts to live this out. People abandoned you because you couldnt take care of yourself and were focused on their mental health and needs instead of your own. Lots of unresolved Traumata, lots of mental illnesses that run in the family and you reflected on and came up with solutions, same in social, math, IT etc like analytic stuff. No will of your own, but the old "romantic" love, that left cuz she couldnt take it anymore either. The only proper solution you can come up with is to escape reality and live in a dream world, but cant be "saved" from there because the only person you really would have motivation for has long forgotten you and moved on. Its like, you realize you are stuck, but once you go back to reality it just crushes you and anyone who wants to help you too, while you try to not burden them and restarting the circle, simply because you feel bad about living through their emotions instead of your own, cuz you stopped perceiving them to not go insane in the first place. A proper Therapy for this guy would take longer than he has left to live and a proper existing place to put him in that can at least accomodate for some of who he is doesnt seem to exist unless a whole community is willing to bow to him, or evolve around him. What if there are people, that just dont wanna, or cannot be fixed? Ive seen some of them in Asylums, made to suffer for the rest of their lives, treated like animals. What if keeping someone alive doesnt just become inhumane towards society (criminals), but inhumane towards himself and society.

Why is it he assumes that you're doing something wrong if you're in pain, misery, living a malevolent tragedy? It's just going back to the same old idea that bad experience means you're doing something wrong. That is the easiest way to gain blind followers... You just claim they are doing something wrong because they feel bad Actually in this society, we live in a way that is totally backwards to the environments we evolved in, tribal environments where the tribe was the centre of the Universe and we were in constant dialogue with the forest that sustained us and in constant dialogue with the other people who, maybe we would otherwise just drift away from, but who, in the forest they sustain us and are our family... It's no surprise if you are unhappy and lets be honest... It probably means that your mind is more suited to tribal existence and you just aren't one of the ones who has an 'evolved' brain to live in society today. The direction of the human race is changing drastically. This guy talks like he knows the direction you as an individual should take in order to discover your true problems but that is a lie. Look at what he talk about, he reduces the human mind to that of a machine. All the statements he makes 'do this and you become this' spoken with authority as if he knows for certain and you're clearly 100% wrong to think otherwise. He is just the equally destructive, other side of the coin to postmodernism that he talks against
@KillerKabel
@KillerKabel 7 жыл бұрын
Karl Pilkington in his other talks he's elaborated on what he's saying here. He's not assuming you'll live a miserable existence without setting real goals, he's saying setting those goals are very likely to improve things for you. He's stated that the world and to a degree the culture will always kinda be against you, and that life is a struggle. But what he adds to that is that you can find a path that's so meaningful that it minimizes the terrible aspects of life.
@lukesimonson5514
@lukesimonson5514 7 жыл бұрын
Seems to me you're just trying to shoehorn him into a bit part in your own malevolent tragedy rather than listen to him and think about what he is actually saying. He's saying use your head and keep your wits about you and elaborating on what that means and why you will probably be better off if you did. If that suggestion upsets you it says a lot more about you than it does about him.
