My wife and I are minimalists, we live very modestly. We know that things do not satisfy. We do not store up Earthly Treasures, the imperishable, the eternal rather than the temporary. We don't conform to the ways of this perverted culture. We live in this country but we are not of it. We are sojourners.

I'm slightly confused regarding the title of this video. It claims Peterson "explains the real reason people are poor". Usually, an explanation results in some understandable conclusion because explanations are the method of clarifying the reason for something. Though Peterson provides some insight about markets in addressing the Pareto Principle regarding the distribution of wealth The Pareto Principle is just an observation but it doesn't explain the actual mechanism of wealth distribution. So, the title of this video and its relationship to explaining the 'real reason' someone is poor is [as is often the case] largely a headline to capture attention and doesn't really provide an explanation based upon the information given in this presentation. Using dubious headlines to capture attention is very common, especially if one is in the act of trying to 'sell' something such as products, services, popularity, prestige, ideologies, etc. Much like the title of this video it's difficult what the product or service really is as there are no conclusions one can draw from the limited information. So as far as explaining why people are [actually] poor is a dubious claim.

I live in a country with strong marxist inheritance, France, we have one of thé most « advanced » social system in the world and guess what it is keeping a majority of us in relative poverty. The amount of taxes an employer must pay is so high that 53% of the population is stuck at minimum wage or barely above that..sure we got free healthcare but i did the math and it would have cost me far less to get my healthcare from a private company and not pay this ridicule amount of taxes over years and years of hard work. As a former entrepreneur, i gave 70% of my income to the state for a decade, i could have bought like three houses with that!

@@juss1142 I never said those who do have a lot of money aren't almost always wise with it. That being said, things tend return to the mean. The next few generations will not likely be as savvy and more then likely will be middle class. Cornelius Vanderbilt was the wealthiest man in America in 1860's with money coming in from many sources. Almost all of his descendants now are not rich and those that are are no where near where he was in terms if wealth and power. Again, my point was never underestimate a person's ability to spend money.

Yes, anyone can blow 28 billion away, just throw it at every worthless cause you wish, you can give it all to one cause and it's gone, the point Jordan was making was that no one needs that much money in order to live a finance free lifestyle, no one needs 28 billion, he knows anyone can blow the money away, but he's talking of living by a sensible lifestyle, but who needs that much money? you may desire it, but you don't need it.

Bullshit. People care at first and foremost about comfortable life, food, social stability. That is provided by financial security. You can be happy without western materialism but ultimately you need to face a choice whether you want to participate in a capitalist society or not. If you want to enjoy the advantages of buying foods comfirtably at a supermsrket you need money. Which you have to earn in our economic structure. Money grants access to every social activity of modern western societies. The issue is getting mostly independent from economic crisis like imposed by Russia onto Europe and indirectly onto other nations. Virtues are growing when financial security is established.

Some of your studies seem to very conveniently be a life-line for you. The real test, besides the obvious "this kills dead babies", would be the consistency of your conclusions and your ideologies with their supporting data, over the hundreds, maybe thousands of videos you've done. @@lauriegertz4236 It’s wonderful you’re so interested in him. One daughter, huh. Even a married man could use a friend like you. Now this would be pure conjecture, but I’ve speculated before. Maybe he started off recognizing the thing he wanted, but he didn’t take a deep enough dive off the cliff. And this is kind of appropriate: a guy named John Mellencamp: You’re sad and disgusted Is what you’ve grown up to be Bet you had no idea what your dream would turn out to be. But when you live for yourself Hell, it’s hard on everyone. But you did it your way and man you did it all How does it feel to be the Big Daddy of them all? Now, Peterson actually seems to live for others a great deal of the time. It’s only a song, but maybe there’s more to the man, and Mellencamp somehow nailed it. You never know.

The Pareto distribution governs nothing it merely shows how the capitalist power model fails. As long as a market economy is based on the pursuit of profit, competition and mutual exploitation It systematically destroys societal trust in the hope that the efficiency yields will surpass that achieved by any other form of economy. No economists have ever proved that “competition is the most efficient method we know”. This cornerstone of economics, on which capitalism, “free enterprise” and market efficiency are based is an unsubstantiated claim, a myth which is believed by the large majority of economists and has been the world’s dominant economic model for the past 250 years and is why the 1% continually perpetuate it. If perfect competition existed buyers and sellers would be so numerous and well informed that price would be outside the control of any single individual or organisation and everyone would end up selling commodities at the same price earning little profit.
@zaKKK821
@zaKKK821 Жыл бұрын
That was a nice way of explaining your view - I definitely understand where you’re coming from a lot better. If you’ll indulge me in a thought experiment, I’d be curious what would be a more efficient method than competition? Because I do agree that it isn’t perfect and is subject to corruption, but I sincerely can’t think of any economic system that IS perfect and ISN’T subject to corruption. Do you know of any that are perfect or work better?
@jimcraig6523
@jimcraig6523 Жыл бұрын
@@zaKKK821 Nothing in the world is perfect not even me. However, when subjected to any meaningful analysis, the 370 studies I am aware of in numerous disciplines, educational science, social psychology, game theory, and neurobiology, were evaluated years ago in a meta-study and found in 87% of cases that cooperation, not competition is the most efficient method. Therefore to build the most efficient market economy it would have to be based on structural cooperation and intrinsic motivation but those with the power to subvert the market operation by the expedient of reducing perfect market competition are well served by the myth of competition. They achieve this through the concentration and misuse of power in building ever more massive conglomerates, cartels oligopolies and monopolies which reduces competition and introduces inefficient pricing, setting up inefficient competition between locations not to mention the plethora of social and ecological harm. Competition by its very nature produces more losers than winners by order of almost 2 magnitudes co-operation produces more winners.
