Music aside, anyone notice how little he looks at the keyboard while playing this? There's a lot of contrapuntal stuff going on and he's barely looking, but I guess that's what 40+ years of piano practice (at that point in time) does to you. This guy is truly one of a kind.

Both musicians are top 5 in the world at their instrument. JP is a god, and in my opinion the best all around guitarist alive, bar none.

jordan makes this thing look really easy to use... which, as someone who has spent far too much time working with the vp-550, i'll tell you that it's really hard to make it sound this good.

You guys should try listening to some of Mozart's orchestral masses. Listen to "Coronation Mass in C". Has some of the same melismatic phrasing that Rudess is using in this inspiring piece. In fact, you would probably appreciate a lot of Mozart Symphonies and concerti that use the same type of scales an haromonies heard here. Check out Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Prague Symphony, Symphony No. 40 in G min., Try 'em out!

there is alot of bach influence here ... in the verse sections i will call them....the contrapuntal lines and the structure of his harmonies.. personally i think this is the best i've ever seen rudess play., i dont think this was improvised.
@luckylanno16 жыл бұрын
For reason the chorus part reminds me of something I might hear in a power metal band.
@concertoldham13 жыл бұрын
some one should transcribe a choir arrangement from this.
@Joziaac13 жыл бұрын
@masterd000 I'm very much the same, sometimes I wish all my improvisation was just automatically recorded. Not that all of it is great, not at all, but sometimes I really impress myself and then can't reproduce it. It's saddening. =(

I think that JP does have a tendency to show off at times and I wish Jordan would try to do the same. His spots in Octavarium and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence are simply amazing. Hopefully the new album will have equal parts of awesomeness. How about some love for John Myung?
@VincenzoAvallone15 жыл бұрын
the vocals are actually jordan voice curved by the keys...a one man choir XD

Wow this song gets really intense, its so amazing. The sad part is that he is just messing around and most people cant even write something that good if they tried.

well i agree with you on most points, but i don't think the comparison to bach is outrageous either. another spanish dude commented in a similar way.

Best keyboardist in the world is J.S. Bach!! That German is untouchable! The best living American keyboardist is Kevin Moore while the best key shredder is Vitalij Kuprij!!

like who? who's your "enya" in comparison to bach? i know bach very well, i've been playing pieces by him for about 11 years now. do you play an instrument? by the way, in "keyboard wizardry" rudess mentions bach as a a great influence. and i can clearly hear the reference in this piece. where does he mention "enya"?

Yet Jordan seems to take it above and beyond. Gregorian chant was monophonic. Jordan's piece is polyphonic.

How to be like you
@leonardthecow16 жыл бұрын
You are correct. But there's no need to correct him like that. I can understand why he would think as such because he does manage to retain some of the aspects of a certain Gregorian-like sound. Besides, the concepts of polyphony and contrapuntal melodic structures are only present here in bare form - look up some of his other work that isn't improv, where he really displays his talents, using complex polyrhythms and other musical concepts I'm sure you, being a smartass, would love to point out.

Can you get soft synth equivalent?
@Croix17 жыл бұрын
it seems to be a simple vocoder, so you just google "vocoder vst"
@Croix17 жыл бұрын
actually im wrong, it uses something similar to autotune, but controlled by keyboard. it seems to be quite close to the harmonizer used by jacob collier live. I think it's possible to control autotune using a keyboard, but i dont think it does polyphony. eventide has a plugin called octavox which seems to do something similar
