Nice video, guys. Regarding the A/C --- I am a mechanic and owned the same van for 100,000 miles and did a number repairs and upgrades. #1 reason the air conditioning doesn't work is the circuit board that sits directly behind the heat/ac controls. It tends to get a micro-crack in one of the solder joints. I found and fixed mine --- but there are replacements available on eBay and it's not hard to do. Might want to look into it. Best of luck!

Woah thanks so much! The van is at the mechanics now and they said they needed to order a part that will let us go from hot to cold as it's stuck on hot at the moment, could very easily be the part your referring too! Thanks so much!

The one thing I learned from owning a Sprinter is to find people who understand them. The best guy on the planet is Dr. A in North Carolina here in the USA. I got his transmission mod done and couldn't be happier. Sprinters are amazing (the older ones like yours) but have a few weird quirks that as long as you know what to do, they last forever.

Congrats on your first sponsor! I’m so happy for you guys. You absolutely deserve it!! Sorry about the drone, as someone who has broken way too much camera equipment on her travels, I can absolutely relate. It’s not a great feeling,but maybe it’s the universe’s way of saying it’s time for an upgrade. As for the van, definitely get yourself a bug screen and window covers would be helpful as well. Flying the Nest did a van build and a loop around Australia so they are great to look to for inspo. As well as Edmond and Bec, they’ve done two van builds. I’ve seen lots of builds where they do a galley style kitchen and the counter covers a bit of the door. Then they have a table that folds out to the outside of the van for more counter space and also the option to cook/prep outside. I think that would work well with your van since you have two doors. I’m really excited to see what build you come up with and your new Aussie adventures!

Awww you had a rough morning 💕 we have been full time vanlifing in Europe for a year and are heading back to Perth in a month and I understand the time it takes to get used to the van and the lifestyle. Even after a year we still have many ‘learning moments’ knowing we’re always only one step away from having to fix another problem 😂 however the freedom to just go your own way is unparalleled. Batteries are harder to understand than algebra! We invested in a lithium and it was hands down the best investment we made in our van. PS we also had an air con issue. Turns out ours was the compressor and is an expensive job - hope yours is a cheaper fix x
@JordanandEmily
@JordanandEmily 4 ай бұрын
oohhh good tip! All we know about our batter so far is it has "red" in the name haha we might have to keep our eyes out for lithium! Van life in Europe would be incredible! so great to be able to just drive into another country!

Hey Jordan and Emily, Sad to see your drone stuck in the tree, may it rest in peace 🪦 Diving into van life with a vehicle that has as much personality as it needs repairs is the kind of adventure we all dream of. It's like a real-life 'Pimp My Ride,' but with more camping and less Xzibit. Every new repair and update you make is like an episode I can't miss. Hurry up!!! and remove the surfboard, in the event of an accident (God forbid) the board will cut off someone's head of. My suggestion for the name of your van must be "Van Morris" Keep up the great work - your channel is the highlight of my week! Nice weekends to both of you and to all of the "Jordan & Emily community" 👋 Best regards Peter +Buddy and Tykmissen

Congrats guys. What a steep learning curve in front of you. There’s so many van conversions on utube to get ideas from. My suggestion is always consider your van max weights and what you use to fabricate the inside with. Also balance the weight of everything you put in it. Have a look at older clips of Thomas Heaton and Max and Occy on tube for their van conversion two different ways at achieving what they wanted. Good luck we will be watching in anticipation. 👍

If the dog comes with the van, then you got an awesome deal! :) Kara and Nate (KZbin channel) did a van life segment during the pandemic and showed the work they had to do, changes, costs, and suggestions for "renovating" a van. Might want to check out their channel if you dont know about it. Also, as far as a name goes, you can't go wrong with "Vanny Mc Vanlife" ;) Also, might want to look into solar panels for the roof to charge the battery and provide power without having to have the engine running

you have to do your research on your electrical system ( amp ,volts ,watts .bat. capacity , charging sources ) -- few items 1. you are limited on how much power you can use ( big users fridge , any thing that makes heat ) 2. have enough bat. capacity ( rule never run the bat. completely flat ) 3. don't open the fridge any more than you have to. 4 . bat. charging ( 3 ways van running ( fastest ) , on board charger 110/220 volts ( fast ) , solar cells slowest , there is lots of info out there . in may seem daunting but once you understand the basics it will all come together . what power you take out you have to put in

You could have used the van with rope and tug on the tree to shake it and get the drone down. Oh, and the fridge won't work on battery only. You need the engine to work so that the fridge would have enough current to function. Best of luck on converting it to your favorite mobile house 😀

So exciting you've bought a van! You're going to have such an amazing time once the first challenges are sorted out. I'd start by figuring out your electrical situation. Find the batteries and how big they are and also how they're charged (solar, but is it also charged with the alternator when you drive? can you plug them in if you're at a campsite that has that?) If it's just solar, you'll be a lot more limited in how much you can use. Also, do you have an inverter? I'm guessing so since you have more than the 12V outlets. You'll need to turn the inverter on to use anything other than the 12V outlets (or USB) but keep in mind that having the inverter on draws power and is less efficient battery usage so don't rely on it for anything you want powered on all the time. As for your design plans, please have your fire extinguisher accessible at all times! It wasn't clear to me from your description whether it would be accessible when the bed is extended. Also on the bed, you probably know from your test runs but be super clear with yourselves whether you'll take the bed out of "bed mode" every day or not. If not, be careful about what you put under it (in this case the table) and whether you're okay without that when you don't want to change out of bed mode for a day (or if one person is still in bed). Might be fine, might not. In our van, we decided to go with a fully stationary bed because we knew we wouldn't actually change it every day. Your kitchen idea sounds really cool though I'd highly recommend having a way to cook inside too for bad weather days or if it's buggy. If everything is portable, that's really easy but less so if you want to build in the stove or something. We cooked on a portable cooktop in our van and thought that was the best option. Our van had a toilet + shower and if I designed one again, I'd skip the shower but keep the toilet. We only used the shower a handful of times (mostly used gym membership for showers since they were much bigger and had unlimited water) but definitely were glad to have the toilet when we needed it! Our #1 best cheap van upgrade was to get a bug screen for the door so we could have the door open for air flow (and nice views) while not letting all the bugs in (especially with lights on at night). It seems like you might have something of that sort but we got one meant for a french door that had velcro around the outside that we used to attach around the door (needed some easy modifications for height / width) and an opening that closes with magnets in the middle (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C5XHCWWN is what we got, I'm sure you can find something similar).

This is amazing! Thank you so much for all the info!! Our van is currently sitting at the mechanics but I'm so excited to read this comment again as I run around the van and look for things haha no idea what the battery situation is! Haha

@@JordanandEmily hopefully it's done at the mechanics soon! A couple more things I've thought of that we did that were relatively quick/easy/cheap but made a big difference, mostly with regard to temperature regulation since that's pretty tough. If there are no reflective window coverings, get a big roll of reflectix (or something similar) and cut window coverings out of it to reflect heat out of the van. Also recommend getting a blackout curtain to separate the cab from the back. We just put it on a tension rod to make it easy. It's helpful for privacy and also to keep the back warmer when it's cold. Lastly, little USB chargeable fans blowing on your face at night make such a huge difference when it's hot. A couple other safety things: however you design it, I'd highly recommend not closing off the cab from the back. Being able to get into the cab and drive away without leaving the van is important. You also didn't mention if you'll be using propane for anything (or if the fridge uses propane - don't think so but maybe?) but if you do use propane for cooking or heating make sure there's ventilation and have a carbon monoxide detector! Depending on what the outcome is with the batteries and if it's enough, it may be easier to get a standalone battery system instead of increasing what's internal to the van and just using the van battery for lights/fridge. I know jackery is a pretty popular brand for that (and they at least used to sponsor a bunch of creators and just started selling in Australia recently - maybe sponsor #2 if you like them?) Something like that is also useful so you don't need to park in the sun so much when it's hot out which makes a huge difference in temp.
