I am a ac technician with 37 years experience. I recommend you have your evaporator coil and blower wheel cleaned. And clean your air filter once a week. I recommend once you have had them cleaned. I recommend you run your ac on low cooling. That will dehumidify the air better, and make the air coming out colder.

Ok, here’s my 2 cents: I have a 42 footer that resides in central Texas. I ended up adding a third a/c in the 14x14 space above the kitchen. If you can’t afford that, starting early with the cool down is a must along with the Reflective window coverings. I also noticed that the manufacturer did such a a poor job of of sealing the plenum area AND the openings around the inside roof duct vents! I silver taped the Shiza out of all of that! I had leaking of cold air into the attic from nearly all vents. Also, an extreme thing I did which is what the Hanks did was, RV AIRFLOW SYSTEM! Worth the money! When I pulled the a/c’s up from the roof because we have whisper quiet units, I got to look down in the plenum area. HOLY COW! There were open areas up there as well that need more silver tape! After we did all of the above, we don’t use our fridge and just hang select meats from the roof inside the rv cause it’s so cold!!! HAHAHAHA

PS: a tip I learned from the sport Formula One: the cars have no radiators, so how can they run the engines in a hot climate like Bahrain? They attach a blower fan to the air intake and drop in a removable basket filled with ice. Every so often, a mechanic swings by and dumps a small cup of ice to keep the basket full. This chills the air before blowing it into the engine so it won't overheat as the car idles.

On the external refrigerator fans. I was under the impression that the fans should be installed on the top panel and forcing air out. (Chimney effect) Taking the hot air out not pushing air in. A trick I found on getting the seal flaps out properly is to use a hot dog/marshmallow skewer stick, put the prong under the flap on the bottom and run it up as far as needed. That will pull the flap out and you can do it from the ground. Box fan to circulate air and max air ceiling vents to pull initial heat out are both great ideas. We always do both.

As others have commented, we just recently painted the black AC shrouds and the refrigerator vent cover white. I also just did our two AC units following a couple of different DIY air flow diverters. It has been very hot here in the northeast, and one of our AC units isn't currently working. I can say the main area AC kept our entire 36 foot 5th wheel very cool, and the fridge stayed cold too, so those improvements definitely worked. We also velcroed plexiglass to our screen door so we can leave the door open while heating or cooling. I would like to try that reflectix in the cabinets now as I've seen those hints on YT.
@ladikmk3 ай бұрын
I've also seen that suggestion for installing reflectix on what would be the exterior wall panel INSIDE interior cabinets. It makes a lot of sense & would help with both retaining the cooler air from AC use, or increasing heat retention in colder climates.

When a woman went left to center to prevent from hitting the back end of a semi. Hitting our new truck not even 3000 miles on it and completely totaled our 32 ft fifth wheel. We were not hurt. But she didn't have any insurance. Great right. They had to pry the camper off the hitch. She hit so hard the front wheel of the camper was lodged behind the 2nd wheel. Her bumper was wedged underneath the camper. A hot hot mess. To make the story short we losted our beautiful fifthwheel. And our new truck was damaged. Paying deductibles for both. But God must have a different plan for us. And He saved us from being hurt. Including the woman who hit us. I would still highly recommend Air flow. They are great. I stuck three self-stick 1/2” x 4” furniture moving sliders vertically about six inches from the outer edge of each slide. As the slide moves out, the seals encounter these bumps and pop out like they’re intended to do. I put them on several years ago and they’ve worked flawlessly.

I did the "DIY A/C MOD" and also taped up our bedroom air dump and smoothed out the air flow from it. I actually had to point the vent towards the wall away from the bed because the extra cold air made me sick after a couple days! I also pointed the vent in kitchen towards the door, so when it is opened, it pushes cold air out instead of letting hot air in. Best bang for your buck is AIR SEALING! Our front storage is under the top half of our bed and also the warmest/coldest spot. We have a 2020 Alpha Wolf 29QB-L. I just started caulking inside the cubby because with the door open you could see light from under the bed when looking inside. Next is insulation under there and panels to cover the 1x2's. I have also started sealing all the drain openings and wire openings where they come through the floor under cabinets. You don't need a 2 inch hole to run a 1/2 inch wire through it 🙄

Not only did our ac's struggle, but our fridge was also struggling. It can and does easily get into the 100s here, but that humidity index is a killer 😂 Love your channel!

Stay at home during the summer. That is what we do.

We have "air you can wear" in the South with all the humidity. (Jane) 🥵 We keep Refectix on our windows during the day in the summer (You can buy a big roll of it and cut to size from Lowes).

I'm full-time stationery in Texas, and I keep my roller shades down. Plus, I put up black out curtains, and it really helped . The things to go into the vents helps I've done that, too. I still want to put the Styrofoam up there.

I may have messed up your analytics. From watching the first 22 seconds about twenty times. I was not expecting that! That was great fun. You two rock!

We recently went to Chimney Rock, NC where it was hotter than hell. We had the dogs with us, both are very hot natured, so we had to keep it cool. We were failing until we opened the vents on the AC to dump the cool air directly into the camper before it cycled through the scorching hot roof. For that reason I will never make it impossible to dump the air directly into the camper. Stay safe out there.

Great tips. I too have had evaporator coil freezing issues, but it didn't matter if I ran the fan on hi or lo. I recommend running the fan on low and auto to maximize dehumidification. If you run the fan on all the time, it puts the humidity back in the air when the AC isn't running.

In cars and house AC this happens your A/C is low on freon????
@BuildingByFaith3 ай бұрын
@philandres6446 that's the first thing that came to my mind, as well. My unit is still under warranty. The dealer said that they don't check freon level but just replace the unit if it doesn't pass, so will wait until out of warranty before I check because I don't want to "tamper" and get rejected for warranty if something does happen.

We love watching your channel! Look forward to the new videos every week. We don't actually own an RV, but our love came from when we stayed at Westgate River Ranch and stayed in RV's a few times, after being there a bunch of other trips prior. At one point we were really interested in RV life and learning more, came across your channel and had so much fun watching and learning over the past few months. Who knows one day we may think to switch up life and go full time. But thanks so much for the videos, so enjoyable!

Also, thanks for the 15% code for the airflow. I had every intention of buying one, but I can't justify $150 with discount. I'd rather spend that on some Henry's Tropi-Cool that cools and protects my roof.

I think that’s a good point that hasn’t been mentioned. The roof coating and color can greatly affect the inside temps. We have Flexarmor and can certainly tell. Its thickness adds R value and also quiets the rain storms. Keeping the roof clean for maximum sun reflection will also add to cool temps inside.

You mentioned a pop up, we had a pop up for about 23 years, no A/C. We always used a fan to help circulate air around. Opening the alittle.

You can take your RV to someone that does window tinting and get the clear ceramic coated tent on your windows and it will keep out all of the heat
@svenbodell14153 ай бұрын
You could also run your dryer on no heat to vent air out

Great suggestions. We've used all of these in our trailers winter and summer. We just had our A/C replaced (compressor seized up) and upgraded from a 13.5K to a 15K. So, in super hot weather, it will be nice! Skirting the RV is good, especially in winter, but wind storms are NOT their friend.

Have you ever consider individual exterior window awnings? Living in southern Arizona they are a blessing keeping the windows shaded and even open when raining. Available from your favorite shopping venue and east to install yourself.

I installed 5% window tint on all my trailer windows. It keeps tons of solar radiation out, and also gives me privacy even with the curtains open. I also have blackout curtains on all my windows for when the sun is too much for the window tint.

We recently completed a wonderful 2700-mile 4 state trip through many national parks. It was in the mid to high 90's for much of the trip. We love to boondock so running the generator for the AC was necessary. Nighttime was a little tricky as we just ran fans with the windows open. Parking in the shade was absolutely necessary.
@justpickone3 ай бұрын
I was curious what boondockers did. Do you mind me asking how much running the generator everyday cost you?
@philc.92803 ай бұрын
@@justpickone My 2023 Travato has a very efficient inverter generator that is also pretty quiet. It uses very little gas. I could run it for 5 hours on less than one gallon.

I would recommend having all the windows tinted with ceramic tint doesnt have to have any shade to it the the film will help prevent so much heat from getting in but I know thats not a super cheap option but it sure helps

We are in S. Texas. We keep the dumps open on both air conditioners. We have two small fans, one on the dresser in the bedroom pointed into the living room. One fan in the living room on low pointed at the recliners. This works best for us.

My wife and i have a 21 ft palamino palomini we purchased in 2022. It has a 9000 btu ac unit in it. It is sized perfectly for florida. It chills the rv down great, a little noisy, but good. The formula is : for every 400 square feet of space. You will need 12000 btu of ac. I hope this helps out, thanks.
@michaelfinley99883 ай бұрын
We had to buy a portable AC unit (which puts out 27 degree air…amazing, but our RV roof mounted ac units only put out 60 degree air temp, which in 107 degree summer heat does not cool our rig efficiently, albeit having new units. I may upgrade to 15k units to replace our 13.5 k units.
@dhillman75223 ай бұрын
Excellent, good info and your exactly right about the fan. We have one on the bedroom dresser that blows into the lower living room/ kitchen. I'm going to look into the inserts for the air conditioner. Seen those before but for some reason just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Just as hot air rises cold air falls. The fan helps push the falling air. We have a loft and put one fan up there and another on the floor.

We use the car window shades in all of our windows. They are typically lightweight, easy to install, and they fold up to store when not needed. They do an awesome job of keeping out the sun and heat! Love the channel!!
