I really think this debut was over hyped by YG. I'm not hating on Baby Monster, I just don't like the song. Empty Chorus, not a really versatile melody, verses uncreative, flow was alright. The group has incredible vocal and dance talent but it really couldn't shine. If you look at their pre-debut stuff, you realize how much more they actually are able to do. I also believe Baby Monster is never going to "dethrone" Blackpink, like all the fans are saying, but we'll see. Again I'm not hating nor trying to compare the two girl groups. this is my personal opinion. But I do agree that the editing of this Music Video was amazing and the girls are so pretty!

Its probably because this wasnt meant to be the debut. Ahyeon is sick so she couldn't participate in this song, also.. they dont have ANY PROMOTIONS. They let out this song because fans and others were tired of waiting, they announced this group at januray, it was november and they didnt have a date for their debut, then Ahyeon got sick and that means more waiting. YG said they are going to start to do promotions with their comeback... for me its clear that they did this in a rush. This is like a "digital debut" but BM didn't need that, they needed a actual debut with promotions and activitys that let people got into their music and their members.

It's very interesting how YG is still going for the yg girlgroup mv formula but with 7 members (or 6) instead of 4. Watching Batter Up music video made me realize how much complicated it was. With the budget for the individual scenes, but also in the way they want to show the choreography during other parts than the key parts. A girlgroup of 4 members allows so much more "individuality" but a group like BabyMonster will want to show their group dynamic and formations much more. It's really not the same, it should be obvious though but I like to notice it that way.

I feel like every YG title track song is meant for the general public, not for a specific demographic, or, to say, those who are already kpop fans. Crazy beats, repetitive choruses, flashy sets, and rave party outrous are what define YG. After a couple years of being a kpop fan, I can say this tactic really works a lot in capturing new markets, and I see nothing wrong with that. Staying true to their own identity and sound is what makes them unique in this industry. Well, listening to K-pop music is a personal choice, what matters most is that we take care of ourselves by finding and listening to music that brings joy to us.

I think that a group having an identity is more important than the company having one. If the company makes all their groups have roughly the same vibe/concept/type of music, then what's the point of debuting new groups? It's fine to appeal to new markets, but using a different approach to this debut could have worked fine. Now they face criticism from existing fans, and creating a rep of recycling concepts will only make people lose faith in the company's ability to release something they haven't heard before, and make avid fans overly protective of their groups, claiming that their concepts are 'totally different', causing discussion and toxicity between fans. !Just my opinion!
@areumadx Жыл бұрын
@@Noonas_admirer well, I agree how YG sucks creatively, but to think of it, before debuting Baemon, they really emphasize the "YG FAMILY" concept, which I think really makes sense now, that debuting a new group with the cohosiveness of the company's identity that sets the group apart from the trend could be their tactic in continuing their legacy, which creates a deeper connection and bond that resonates with the fans and clients

I've been thinking the same thing. Sorta. I see a lot of complaints about repetitive choruses. But if you want to get a song stuck in as many people's minds as possible, even if they don't speak the language, repetition. Just make the rest of the song worth it! Even repetitive korean lyrics that I don't understand I'll find myself singing along to or singing to myself at work.

I'm stuck between being a bit disappointed with this debut, and also being happy with it. I'm a bit disappointed that they feel too close to Black Pink. When a new group debuts, I really want to hear a new sound. I want them to have a sound, where in the future, I'll be able to listen to their new songs, and immediately think "Yeah, this is their sound". But if they continue like this, all I'm going to think is that this is the Black Pink sound. On the other hand, I have been starved for Black Pink music, so I'm also a little happy that I get this. Because the song is good, and it is catchy. So it really scratches the itch that Black Pink is not really fulfilling for me. As a consumer, I'm happy to get new music that I like. But I feel a little sad for BABYMONSTER, since they will be compared to Black Pink so much, because of the heavy similarities. I hope they can develop more of a unique sound in the future, so they can stick out more. Because they seem talented enough for it. Unfortunately the decision is probably all up to YGE to make it happen. And I have a sneaky suspicion that YGE will go for the safe option of releasing music they know will be a hit, in the form of Black Pink style music. But hopefully I'm wrong

That's why I like XG so much. They're sound is directly inspired by american artists and not kpop artists, they go so far as to record their albums in america with american producers and rappers. YG / Teddy said this exact thing in the BlackPink Light up the Sky, There are 100 of songs on his computer, they just can not show them all now. I only felt BP vibe during ASA's part... well the colors... and Chiquita's part in first verse ( the snow scene was mixture of "How u like that" and "Pink venom" mvs second chorus) but throughout the whole MV I was thinking "damn, it sounds and looks like so much BigBang, 2ne1 and IKON". The opening isn't just used in BP mvs, it's a classic YG entrance, all groups under YG has at least one MV opening like this. Ruka's rap part in MV was a callback to Bigbang "Bang Bang Bang" era. Chiquita's part in 2nd verse was a callback to 2ne1 "I am the best MV". The ending editing where everything goes black slowly before the song changes - that's the same editing from BigBang "Bang Bang Bang" when the song changes at the end. It's a standard YG song, more like a YG anthem rather than BabyMonster's debut song. That's why people weren't happy because it's not something new or exciting. It would've had better effect on people if we didn't know who they are and weren't introduced to them. It would be like "Oh new YG group, oh look at them, who they are, wow so much liek YG groups". But as we know them already, same old YG song is not exciting. Even tho I like the girls, some of them didn't fit the theme like Pharita's first part, it was a forced attutude scene, I was kinda cringed. Same goes Chiquita's snow scene. I was like "Nope, thanks". They are teens, let them be teens. Not forced faked-fierce grown up wanna-be's. They have better potential.

Always appreciate Jordan's review/reaction vids, makes me notice the details and appreciate K-pop editors and just editors in general more, they are so under-appreciated IMHO: "Batter Up" does draw a lot of references from previous YG MV's (esp BP's), I do wish BAYMON the best, they have amazing potential, just hope YG can get things sorted out...also really wish Ahyeon could've debuted with them T-T

I kind agree but at the same time I think it's legit to some people just not like because it's the same sound again and again. Like I get it, it's theirs style, but the way YG does it seems more like they are too lazy or stubborn to came up with something new them to keep with a music background or tradition. I mean, a lot of the big companies have a "style" SM, JYP, Hybe, even Cube or Starship, but not all of their groups sounds so close that if you're not a fan you can't say who is who. So yeah, I'm not desapointed because I didn't believe in YG claims but I think it's fair for some people to be since they set the bar really up for something "new and refreshing". It is good? Yes! But absolute inovative? Nop.
@inferiorinferno8859 Жыл бұрын
@@BeatrizRodrigues-bj1de This is exactly what we 'haters' are saying. YG is too lazy, you can have a cohesive sound without each group sounding almost identical. In the case of Babymonster, they are way too vocally talented to be just this hip&hop inspired girl group and they easily could have had an R&B kind of sound which would still fit YG.

I've watched so many reactions and so far I haven't seen others noticing it. I've been hoping for someone else to notice it. Jordan I'm so glad that someone was you. xD When I saw it for and this video for the first time it's one of the few times that I stopped the video to just take in what had happened. The second time was with Asa's rap part, in which I was happy that you also stopped there to just take in her rapping as well. xD She really does have that effect. I'm really hoping they don't cast her aside and that they will show case her talent with future music to come from them. Also Haram's singing as well. The other girls may get more attention because of how talented they are for being able to singing, dance, and rap, but when it comes to singing, I don't think any of the other members can compare to Haram. She just has that crazy rift changing at such a young age that is almost unheard of and I really hope they show it off at some point, because right now she's not being recognized as much as she should be getting recognized for her voice.

YG wouldn't be known if it were not because of their signature sound of Trap, Hip Hop, EDM, and MV which has a party sound at the end. YG Stans and those who knew music well appreciate it. It's so sad that BM gets a lot of bashing and hate and even compares them to other Gen-Girl groups. I am a blink, a blackjack, and even love other girl groups. We must be respectful and just be appreciative that YG's Boy Groups and Girl groups like 2NE1, Blackpink, and now Baby Monsters, create and balance the genre of music that we can listen to and relate to. The fact that Jordan kept mixing up BLACKPINK and BABYMOMSTER is proof that YG made the concepts waay too similar (no hate to baby monster or Jordan!)
@Cationna Жыл бұрын
This song absolutely wouldn't exist without Blackpink - but, admittedly, they had a huge impact on the whole music scene, and especially girl crush concept, so the same can be said about many songs. It's definitely in the same style, similarly constructed, written, choreographed, conceptualised, performed, filmed, and edited - but at least it does it well, unlike some wannabe imitators who don't even really get it. And the reason for similarities is because it's being produced by the same people, it's their decisions (it's normal for newbies to be more under the direction they were given than explore their own flavours). YG is obviously using the resources they found and created for Blackpink. But, it's not all the same, it's not all copy-and-paste or "rejected BP ideas". Choreography is more hip-hop and the sheer difference in the number of members steers it into a different sort of playing around with positions and lines rather than shapes - idk how to describe it, Blackpink have a definite style to their choreo which is very feminine and organic even when it's swaggy, which is obviously not present here. The song doesn't have the Eastern music influences which are an underrated but very important part of BP sound, instead there's a retro R&B vibe (very on trend). They do reuse some of the same ideas, I mean that's just on the screen. But just being in the same genre in itself is not necessarily a crime if they're doing it well, is what I'm saying. And they are doing it well. I do hope they start developing this new group into their own thing and not rely on known solutions shoot for "new Blackpink" instead of "new successful group". But this is the first song. Those are never free from the immediate situation on the market. I'm sure we'll see more Babymonster in Babymonster with time, for now we have a good song and the world of potential with talented newcomers.

It's just like when 2ne1 debut, they said it's female version of bigbang. They sound the same, they are ugly, will flop, blablabla. And they proved them wrong. They are maybe have the same base with bigbang but have the different character. Then blackpink debut, people said, " ah it's 2ne1 copycat, it's 2ne1 part 2, it's 2ne1 but just prettier, it'll flop, blablabla". Then again they proved them wrong. They still have that YG feels but with different color. Then it happen again with babymonster. They attacked them with the same pattern. Blackpink.02, blackpink copycat, blackpink fake version, they'll flop, they need teddy( funny how they said this when they're the same people who said teddy must stop produce songs for YG gg because it's sound the same🙄), and blablabla. And i believe babymonster will prove them wrong too. Just like their seniors. People always attack YG's groups this way. Esp knets. Like they just hate YG no matter what. But when they succesful, they will be fomo and suddenly support them( but some of them still trying to bring them down in the back) like nothing happen. Like compare 5 days old group to 7 years old group? Like come on. If you know kpop( and YG) for such a long time, you'll know that YG always put their color for their group base then let them add the group own colors later on. That's why people could say," ah this is so YG!" " no YG no PARTY!" " only YG artists could cover YG's songs" "ofc it's YG". Like they had their own identity that people recognize well. And i bet when YG change their new group concept, people will also complain like, " where is their identity? Why they look different? It's not YG i know? Why they trying to be something else? Ah, YG has lost their identity for sure,"and blablabla🙃🙄
