The Abrahamic adventures continue with this, the tenth lecture in my 12-part initial Biblical lecture series. Abraham's life is presented as a series of encapsulated narratives, punctuated by sacrifice, and the rekindling of his covenant with God. This seems to reflect the pattern of human life: the journey towards a goal, or destination, and the completion of a stage or epoch of life, followed by the necessity of revaluation and reconsideration of identity, prior to the next step forward. Abraham, for his part, makes the sacrifices necessary to continue to walk with God, or before God (as the terminology in this section has it). It is this decision that allows him to transcend the vicissitudes of life, and to take his role as the father of nations.

I, age 70, have watched everything on youtube by you i could get my hands on, touched, impressed, inspired, this although you address younger people as your audience. I had years of therapy in late twenties, - was very neurotic, bi-polar (un-diagnosed until much later), and therapy helped somewhat, but i found it disturbing that they never wanted to get into any ethical domain, like good and evil, right or wrong. You finally have the courage to address this dimension, - I am very grateful to you for this and for the way you are engaging this generation on the most crucial themes of "what is a good and meaningful life", and how do we find guidelines, models, principles? Take it easy on yourself. If you received a college education in the US, you probably got a heavy dose of "What has the West done for the world?" and "America has no culture." nonsense. The value of the Holy Bible is not taught, even in churches. Dr. Peterson puts the Bible in terms that even I can understand. I felt ignorant as well. But I was reminded so many times during these lectures how my teachers filled us full of garbage like I mentioned above.

As an alcoholic this both gave me hope and terrified me. I've known for over 10 years what it's doing to me and I can't stop. I've lost 75% of the good things and opportunities in my life because of it. And let me tell you, the most terrifying thing is to be in the human equivalent to hell, and to know if I would've gotten my act together I'd be in the human equivalent to heaven. AR 66 pretty well actually. Thank you for asking. It’s kinda funny actually because after I wrote this I DID make some major changes and it felt wonderful. But as time has gone on, even though my life is definitely better in almost every way, I start feeling that creeping bastard, APATHY, wriggle his way back in my head. “What’s the point? It’s all hopeless anyway. May as well be out of my mind drunk or high. “ I’ve been able to fight him off this far, and rereading this comment (due to your comment) has done a great job reminding me why I left that basement and that I NEVER want to be back there again. On what Peterson says about bad trips and not getting passed the issue within your life, etc. I once took shrooms, I was I'd say 22 maybe. Maybe 21. And I was home alone, living with my mom. And at the time was trying to have something profound happen. I wanted to be shaken up, I wanted something to "happen". I felt like I was waiting, which I often feel. And during this trip. I had everything ready, the day prior I took shrooms and had a really solid experience, and so the next day I took the rest, and laid on the couch in my room. By the window, set and organized everything. Had the air blowing to a nice temp, water ready, took ginger for my stomach, and so fourth. It felt it wasn't kicking in, I'd say 30 or so minutes in. I wasn't feeling anything, where as the day prior it was hitting within what felt like 15 minutes. So I decided to smoke some weed, given it wasn't doing anything. Or so I thought. After smoking a small amount, I was thinking I was just gonna go to sleep. Given I was semi tired and usually smoking makes me tired. Well, I decided to put this play list on, it's my "dmt" playlist. And put the song "small grey creatures" by shulman. At this point I'm running into maybe an hour, after taking the shrooms. At this point it all really hit, all at once. I all of a sudden got a sensation of being watched. I felt as though the room got really cold. The song felt like it went on for a really long time. Still laying down, I look in the direction on where I felt I was being watched. And the space in the room behind me was black, really dark, even though the windows were open with moon light coming into the room. Being I assumed it was just going to be mild hallucinations, I left the music on, and got up, and kinda walked into the misty black emptiness. And it looked as though a void vapor was moving off the floor, against the wall and onto my mantel. I approached the mist being I wanted to test my hallucinations, and it went then from the mantel into the upper corner of my room. I was thinking "damn this is some pretty wicked shit" I decide to do some random things here and there as the overall experience begins to become heavier, I decide to go downstairs, (which the house has no lights on) and got more water, and then i started to what I call "spotting" I start to bob in and out of immediate consciousness. I was in the kitchen, standing with the water, then in the living room, then sitting in a chair, then in the hallway upstairs, I start to become nervous and have some anxiety because I start to lose immediate control of what I'm doing. It then didn't really help that I left the really intense music on looking back. I decided to just lay down, and kept telling myself it's just a bad trip. When I get back in my room, I notice the black mist thing was still there. And again felt like I was being watched. After laying down, I close my eyes, try and relax. Once I open them to sit up because again it's becoming more and more heavy as the time goes by. And at this point I realize the black thing was then covering the entire floor. I was brought back to the sensation of when you're a kid and your bed is your safe space. This is the point where I'm Really tripping. I say out loud "I really don't like this, this is too much" over and over. Trying to just breath and hoping it would pass. Which it didn't. The music at this point all starts to sound like static. No matter the song, it's just all fuzzy static with weird noises morphing in my head. I turned it off, and the separation between reality and the trip seems to slip away. I start having this almost conversation within myself. I think I fully detached from the idea of it was just a trip, I just kinda left. The black misty thing was then making what looked like waves within the room and it looked like a fully void space around me. I then started hearing things, and seeing black apportion type figures all around the room. I then again felt like I was being watched, and looked up and saw this egg shaped black thing above me. I asked out loud "what do you want" And that's when it felt like it plunged at me and I fell into an eternal black emptiness. I feel I had an out of body experience. I was full on out of my mind tripping during this period ( I had an 8th of shrooms) And I in this full hallucination, stood up, looked around and it was black empty cold space. I then realized I was in hell, and got really frightened. I thought I died. And the black void thing was there, and started chasing me like the chasing you when you're a kid running up the stairs feeling like something is behind you. And didn't know what to do, I thought I was dead, and so I shouted out the only thing I could "GOD GOD, IM SORRY, PLEASE HELP ME, PLEASE" so on. And this flicker of light similar to a star flickers up in the distance, I'm reaching my hand out fully running while in this full panic and this overpowering light comes toward me and seemed to fill the black space and I then felt like I rubber banded back into my body waking up, with everything gone. All the sensation, gone. I felt really normal. Still tripping but not feeling this negative energy anymore. At the time I wasn't really religious, idk if I'd call myself religious even now but it was a really spiritual, and religious experience. I at that point got up and turned all the lights on and kinda looked around and felt like I had just had some profound happen. I start doing all sorts of random things, and felt great. After laying down an hour or so later, I got this feeling of authority, or fatherliness above me. I have a good relationship with my dad, however. He's not absent in my life. And had a message felt in my head of something a grandpa or dad would tell you when you're fucking up, I felt a spiritual pinning down asking me something similar to "what are you doing with yourself. You're loaded wasting your life, you need to do something with yourself" etc I felt like a deer in headlights or dog being pinned down by its owner. I've always felt I've had a guiding spirit with me, and it felt that spirit was there. Telling me this. I then had a flash of knowing what I needed to do. I always Knew what I was supposed to do. But I just wasn't doing it. I at that moment got up, and started packing things. Determined of what I was going to do. I was 21 or 22, and knew I needed to become my own person, so to speak. I needed to move out and start being self sufficient. So after getting literally everything organized, I wrote down a plan. And within 6 months was out. I had a very active few years after that. I would say that whole experience really impacted my life. I've never taken shrooms again. But I've taken lsd once. I don't drink or smoke pot anymore. And that was I'd say 3-4 years ago. And it was a big turning point. I would however, totally drop lsd, take shrooms, or smoke dmt again. It feels like a hard reset of your brain.

When I was doing acid and reading the Bible, long ago, for a time the words would roll up off of the page like i was looking at them through a small powerful magnifying glass. A bizarre effect. Intimidating. Then I joined a full time gospel preaching Christian group. That is what I should be doing. The power is in that Book. Not church. ugh. But the Bible. Take everything possible literally. That is how it is written. The Bible reads like a narrated History in the old testament. Like a how to manual in the New testament. Quite a trip there you had. I should mention to you, when someone gets a warning like a terrible car wreck but no injuries. Or like this experience you had, it must be heeded. Keep thy heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life. Everything we perceive whether experience or vision or thought should me measured up against the Bible. It is the standard. One of my grandmothers and her family were Québecois from Montreal, she couldn't speak English when she came here but she learned so well that she had no accent at all and freaked me out when she started speaking fluent French. When I was a kid I would've sworn that she was born and raised here, because she seemed like the all American grandma. She was a character, one time she said that her name, Le Tarte was French for ''The Whore''. Her and one of her many older brothers had the same name, but apparently they were pronounced differently. But my grandpa who was Swedish would pronounce her name phonetically, Fran-c-ios, and then just Frank. My little sister has the same name and one of my other sisters calls her Frank too. My other grandmother was German-Irish, but they were both hard-core Catholics and they would have absolutely loved to listen to this man. I can imagine the only people who hate him are those who are determined to control the lives of others.

Jesus saying "my God, my God, why have you forsaken me", was Jesus quoting Psalm 22:1, a passage that foreshadowed what was happening to him at that very moment. During Jesus day, they didn't have numbered verse in the scripture, so to reference a section of scripture people were just say the first words of the section. This is Psalm 22 and I'll *bold* some of the parts the referenced what Jesus was going though right then. You can also see, that through this part of scripture starts, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?", the message of the it is, how God has never forsaken him and how God does fulfilling the promises made, Jesus being the final fulfillment of the promises God had made. After referencing Psalm 22, his next and final words are “It is finished.” This is because he dies right after, but also because the work to fulfill the promise is finished, thus the promise is fulfilled 1 *My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?* Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? 2 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest. 3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises. 4 In you our ancestors put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. 5 To you they cried out and were saved; in you they trusted and were not put to shame. 6 *But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people. 7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads. 8 “He trusts in the Lord,” they say, “let the Lord rescue him. MatthewKeehan, it's either real or it's a story. If it's real, than it's Jesus fulfilling prophecy, and if it's a story, it's still the literary device called foreshadowing. When Jordan breaks down the meanings within Pinocchio, we could fill the comment section with, "crickets down really talk, the whole movie is fake", or do we look for what the artist meant in their writings. There has always been the debate around Jesus being myth or historic, historic crazy man, or historic and the son of God, but that's not really the conversation these videos are covering. Regarding the question that was asked about Jesus crying out in the book of Matthew "my God, my God, why have you forsaken me", he is quoting the open line of Psalm 22. This psalm begins with this question of despair, however as you read on, a theme of trust, hope and praise emerges. It is worth having a look and could provide insight into Christ's quote at his hour of despair. Dr Peterson, this is why I think it was not edited out :-)

The reason Christ called out the verse from Psalm 22 - My God, why has this forsaken me - which is a Messianic psalm, is for a variety of reasons. First, Jesus was taking all of the sins of the world - past and future - on his shoulders. His was an ultimate sacrifice full of unbearable pain from literal torture. As he took on this metaphysical burden, God the Father had to step back and let this be accomplished and that break from the Father was the first time in eternity that had happened. He is actually calling out to his dependence on God the Father. This point - just before his death - was the most unbearable as he was truly alone and taking on the sins of the world and the responsibility of their potential salvation. Most of us can’t clean our room never mind take on the responsibility of the sin and salvation of the whole world - past and present. It should not be edited out as it is very important that it be there. Also, this is the fulfillment of prophecy - not only from psalms but Daniel 12 as well.

The promise is the Holy Spirit to the Messiah, Gal. 3.16. It enabled him to live a righteous life, which he surrendered for the world. The world is now in a state that it too can receive the Holy Spirit like Christ and live a righteous life. The death of Christ wipes out past sin. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live right before God, so we can stand at the judgment. Christ cries out because the Holy Spirit is taken from him. He is forsaken like those who forsake God. He became sin, which is shorthand for finding purpose and meaning in the creation rather than the Creator. God is not found in a cursed creation. And definitely not in the doctrines of the post apostolic church fathers, that obscure the simplicity of the bible.

I think it is very wise for Dr. Peterson not to answer the question of whether or not he believes in the literal physical resurrection of Christ. I think that it is a question that everyone has to answer for themselves and not by trusting in the wisdom of some higher authority. The way that you answer this question is also a sacrifice. You are risking being considered gullible and naive, and weighing it against being able to call yourself a Christian in earnest, rather than just being someone who appreciates the wisdom to be found in the Biblical stories.

Indeed Alex, I'm 60, female and I first heard of Dr. Peterson 2 years ago when a student said that I reminded him of Dr. Peterson. I looked him up, sure enough we are of the same ilk. I am most certainly not near the intellectual he is. However, I also work in a college. I also have my own nasty SJWS who bite at my heals. I am intensely protective of Freedom of Speech. I study Personality Disorders and also see the rise of narcissistic behaviors in students. My husband has been deceased for 20 years. He was a tremendous intellectual, Biology PhD, Golden Gloves boxer, youngest leftenit to graduate from Sandhurst Academy. Dr. Martin Halliday would have been very fond of Dr. Peterson. Anyway my point is that Martin said what Jordan said 30 years ago about the Nexus and encouraged me to create a series of films to leave to future generations. I read a series of poems my grandmother wrote around the 1920s that are invaluable to me because they are a brilliant window into her creative universe. We do need to create things to leave to our descendants, its important; that's why the pyramids were built. To last for thousands of years.

I don't know why, but I welled up a little when Dr. Peterson was answering the question whether he believed in the literal resurrection of Christ or not. It seemed like he was truly speaking from his spirit, in awe, a child-like wonder of what humans might be able to achieve or experience if we take ourselves and each other seriously and strive for "transcendence". Whatever the hell that means.

In reference to the last question, my belief is this ; 1st of all, what Christ said is a direct quote from Psalms 22. 2nd, He was still teaching, for those with ears to hear, from the cross . 3rd, GOD and Christ both gave their Ultimate Best, the Holy Father gave his Only begotten Son, the Son gave His Life for us in Direct Obedience to the Father's Plan to save All who willingly Choose to Believe ! Our choice to humble our self-will and Love & Obey .. OR go our own self-willed, self-serving way. Eternity rests on that simple choice. Also,for anyone interested, a Great read is 1 Corinthians , chapters 1-3 , the Source of ALL True Wisdom, period. Great stuff Dr. Peterson !

Endurance by Ernest Shackleton. Great study in character. Remember how wet and cold the men were and they'd have to crawl into their wet cold beds at night? Ugh! One man kind of broke down after all this and Shackleton had some difficulty with that. Given our snowflakes-in-safety-land-lives, such books can help strengthen us and develop gratitude. Another great book is Sufferings in Africa, a book that greatly affected Abraham Lincoln. Captain James Riley and his crew get shipwrecked in early 1800s and are kidnapped by Islamic slave traders. But a couple Muslims end up saving the remaining crew in the end. In this retelling, you see humanity in all its good and evil. Btw, our American founders, by encoding a "pursuit of happiness" into our Declaration of God-given liberty, weren't thinking like narcissists in pursuit of perpetual entertainment. Tragedy and suffering are definitely part of the human condition, but they are not supposed to be our daily gruel. Joy and gratitude might have been more apt word choices for today's surface skimmers, but a pursuit of one's talents and gifts for the benefit of humankind definitely alleviates suffering....and what a happy turnabout that is for the thoughtful and free.

He found a smooth way to stop her question, it wasnt about the time, it was because she was a bit... off. She was gonna go on about the 440hz standard vs 432hz and that the nazis changed it tob 440hz from 432 because it somehow makes people more aggressive and likely to go to war (absolute bullshit obviously), and she also talked about chakras and shit. He did the right thing shutting her down, and did it very diplomatically.

Nuwanda don't throw the baby out with the bathwater...there is much truth as far as 432hz being a universal frequency...440hz doesn't occur anywhere naturally..the Great Italian composer Vedi loved 432hz and used it all the time...he new it's value regarding the human voice...an instrument that is not man made....anyway fuck the whole nazi thing it's old.
