The personality assessment mentioned by Mr. Carr is understandmyself.com
Jimmy Carr is an award-winning comedian, author, and TV host. Carr recently came under fire for the career-enders subsection in His Dark Material, a Netflix special that’s deemed “deeply offensive” or “faithful to its title,” depending on who you ask. Carr’s latest book, Before & Laughter, is part memoir, part life advice, and mostly funny.
We had a stimulating conversation about human nature, comedy and the physiology of laughter, experiencing jokes, half-filled rooms, truth, growth, self-deprecation, love languages, religion, and the 15’ replica of his head.

So many truly great comics and comedians have this same 'other' side that Jimmy is demonstrating so well here. John Cleese is another comedian who has a deep and some would find surprising understanding and interest in the mechanics of humour.

He's wonderfully, refreshingly - courageously even - honest, especially when he speaks so articulately about the impact of his mother's death on his entire being. That's hard to do for most of us. However, "unexamined" was a word that came up in this conversation, though in a very general sense. I wouldn't want to be privy to any conversation where those things, whatever they are, might be examined. That's private ;)

Two things I have to say about this topic: 1. I had the delightful opportunity to pickup Dr. Jordan Peterson in 2018 from the London Heathrow Airport and drop him at his hotel in London. With Dr. Peterson I had the most amazing conversation for more than two hours because: a) Being from Romania he was very interested about the years I lived in communism and how I end up living in the UK. b) I had no idea at that moment who Dr. Peterson was. After we said goodbye in front of his hotel I've googled his name but the shock came next day when KZbin recommended me his videos and the famous interview with Cathy Newman. Dr. Jordan Peterson is a such a wonderful and humble person and he has my gratitude for life for helping me understand the wrong things I've done in my life and to fix it and to make peace with me and the world for a better future. 2. I had the same delightful opportunity to pick up Jimmy Carr from a BBC tv show in London in 2019 and drop him home. He is the nicest, coolest and clever guy I ever met. Totally different from what you see on the stage.

''the opposite of addiction isn't sobriety ; it's purpose'' -Jimmy Carr and Jordan Peterson I sat down 4 days before this video came out. I spent a couple of hours and mapped out what I wanted for my life. I've since stopped two nearly life long addiction WITHOUT EFFORT, where as before I could barely last two days. Funny that I stumbled upon this quote. It is true, and the biggest revelation of my life so far. When you take the time to produce a believable, precise vision of what your life could be, your urges to continue harmful habits will crash on a wall of steel.

Most people are not that different from eachother, regardless of religion or politics. Generally all it takes is having some basic decency, respect for others and a modicum of common sense imo Combine that with keeping an open mind and not thinking that your opinion is per definition better than others and you have the ingredients for some very interesting conversations

This is the mental gymnastics you do to navigate in an intersectional feminist hell. Firstly, it's empty wisdom. You can indeed joke about anything. I'm sure even in North-Korea you can throw some funny anecdotes around with your close friends. The question is what you can joke about in the public, to the general audience on mainstream platforms. What you can build your career on or what at least doesn't kill your career. Secondly, there's nothing more hilarious than telling jokes to the wrong audience. Andrew Dice Clay's "The Day The Laughter Died" is a legendary comedy album. Not because he's doing genius material, but because some of the offended audience members start walking out during the show. It adds to the enjoyment to know that if the material gets in contact with the wrong people, it will upset them. And sometimes the general public becomes the "wrong people" and they need to be shaken up.

He's totally right about that when it comes to a social context. But when you are a comedian, you have a certain brand. Carr's brand is dark and offensive humor, if this is not your cup of tea that's totally ok, just don't go to the show. It's a problem when people who aren't going to the show, wants to change the show for the ones that enjoy it.

Yeah I've always noticed that as well. As others have pointed out, since they're some of the only people speaking actual truth to power (as opposed to virtue signaling) they inherently tend to be people allergic to bullshit, and able to pick up on some of what's really going on, not to mention a defiant, courageous- especially in male comics- streak of a slightly cynical "ohh yeah? If that's how you feel, prove it. You can't? Well effff you then" pattern of behavior that I think is not just healthy but in reality very important. imo. Love this conversation regardless! The european comedic scene, even compared to america, is suuuuuper politically correct, whiny, and so left leaning that it makes SNL look like trump's twitter lmao so that's why I was so grateful and glad to see jimmy not only speak out against some of their behaviors, but exhibit- thankfully- that he's not as "woke" as most of the others pretend to be

As a big fan of both your works. I found this very entertaining and fascinating. I was surprised to see this meeting of the minds and it does give me hope, that maybe if enough big personalities were willing to sit across the table from each other, maybe we could really come together as a society. Knowing how vilified you have been made out to be in legacy Media, its really refreshing to see, someone like Jimmy Carr, publicly acknowledging that you are not the monster you have been made out to be. I feel like this marks a turning point in public perception of who you are, and i am thankful for that. Given everything you've done and how you have really put yourself out there and tried to help people. Its inspirational and heart braking to see how you have been treated. You will forever have a supporter in me. I don't always agree with you, but i respect you and your opinion on topics and i've found you to be a great source of knowledge and listening to your lectures has helped me grow as an individual. Please never give up, i think you are doing a tremendous service for people and we would be lesser without it. Then he moves on to summarising society by quoting an apprentice contestant saying "I'll do anything to win this, I'll stand on/ crush the opposition". Eric completely got it!

I'm 56 years of age and only just now finding myself after having been captured by a tyrant in my early 20's and developing an inferiority complex, whilst believing their gaslighting. Three plus years after removing myself from that situation, I am finally valuing myself as a person.

Saw Jimmy near our hometown in North Wales couple of weeks back. He is so right in what he says about his style of comedy and that intimacy, he really included the whole room and his quickness in humour with certain members of the audience was just gold. It was bloody awesome! Never get bored of seeing Jimmy Live, class! Side note he’s also opened my eyes massively to some really big things in my life, clever man in touch with the world and people. Thanks Jordan for speaking with him!

Its quite rare that Jordan meets someone who talks more than he does. Very enjoyable chat. I went to the same school as Jimmy, and safe to say he's come along way. Admire his work effort and his creativity, its not by chance that he's as good as he is.

Although many would not expect this pairing, it really makes perfect sense. Jimmy Carr says things that many would not, as does Jordan Peterson. They both offer few to no apologies unless there is an honest mea culpa with no connection to phony media pressure. They both skillfully elaborate arguments that confound dogmatic ideologies. Apart from Dave Chapelle, Joe Rogan, and a few others, there aren't many big names putting themselves out there like this. And it's not left or right; these people cover the spectrum of reasonable thinking. Reasonable thinking. Just saying.

"we love each other so much that even the worst blows don't really matter" I think maybe a more accurate way to describe this phenomenon is like this: when people of a certain culture are capable of taking the worst possible kinds of insults then this is an indication of a high-trust society. In other words, the more people distrust their fellow citizens, the more dangerous any form of insult is regarded and vice versa.
@jonathonshaw6688

Yeah, I would say it's that we are able to trust that the person appearing to insult us doesn't really mean it.
@streglof

@@jonathonshaw6688 That or if he or she does, that there's no actual real threat behind the insult. If you don't see your fellow citizens as a potential threat, even a really meant insult doesn't carry much weight. But these days we're telling kids that even words and ideas are an actual existential threat to their existence so I guess that explains the recent increase in demand for censorship these days.
