Saw Jorma and Jack about 15 years ago in Madison WI. One of the best concerts I've ever attended.

I love the Movie. Have got the DVD and watched it many times. Kinda wish they had put Jorma's 'out-take' in there.

Jorma looks, sounds, plays better than he did in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

This is sublime - you won't find guitar playing with more style, verve, brio and panache on the entire web.

Maybe, but I've never been a fan of this pompous sort of guitar playing, almost as though he's decided he's too good to keep the soul of the original alive. In my opinion, the extra showy bits are unnecessary and detract from the desired effect of the tune, especially for a piece created so intimately concerning death.

He's been playing this song for decades. I think what you see as extraneous additions are a refinement and a way to sweeten and freshen the song as much for himself as others.
@Verkrustet7 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't exactly call throwing more and more makeup on a pig as a "freshened-up" version of itself. The pig's meant to be a dirty, gritty animal, and people should view it as such.

I'm calling bullshit here. Jorma knows the blues, its evident. Who the hell are you, and what do you know, anyway?

It was pointed out to me that "Star Track" off of "Crown of Creation' by Jefferson Airplane and sung and played by Jorma Kaukonen used this chord progression but electrifies it and Jorma replaces the lyrics. It really more closely follows the version from the first HT album.

The guys that said that Jorma's version is "pompous" or "too polished", must have been Jack White or Stevie Ray Vaughan (both shitty guitarists) fans that never really listened to the original version.

Yes. I agree. Too damn fancy. Maybe he got bored with playing it the same way for so many years, but this rendition feels like he"s lost the soul of the song.
