This is priceless. So grateful to have this treasure preserved. To this day Hot Tuna continue to thrill me. More and more all the time. First heard them open for It's A Beautiful Day and The Airplane in Anaheim, early 70's? 2nd time was with Leon Russell and Pink Floyd at UCSD Athletic Field. Same period. Still get chills at this literally timeless music. Especially ACOUSTIC.

I've loved Jorma and acoustic Hot Tuna especially since the first time I heard it in 1986. Finally got to see them at Fur Peace Ranch in May my first show since reopening which was an absolute gift. This archival footage is interesting to see him play the Ovation plugged in with chorus, phaser or flanger effects there or whatever that is. Simply wonderful. I always felt like an acoustic Jorma/Hot Tuna show was like going to church minus the Sunday morning arguments with my mother over why did I have to go to church plus more of the sense of awe that a religious experience can elicit :)

It's very simple how you missed him. You weren't even alive during his heyday with Jefferson Airplane and you were a baby when his popularity with Hot Tuna peaked with the Burgers album in '72- '73. Been a niche type since then. Those were great times with the Airplane.

Wow man! What a lucky find. Capital Th video taped so many great shows. The Van Morrison one is outstanding. Jorma is such an important and influential figure in the history of acoustic fingersyle guitar. So grounded in the tradition, but totally original. He continues to teach at age 74 at his guitar camp. This video is pretty important. Other than this, mostly what we have are the instructional DVDs he recorded for Homespun in the 90s. Which are outstanding. LEarning one on on from the man himself. Ovations were a necessary evil back in the 70s. Only acoustics that could be amplified Heart used them. Even Cat Stevens……The excessive flanger on his guitar sound does not exactly help. But he is playing a cross between acoustic and electric.

gtrrobster Jorma was my Mom, Marcia Moore's guitar teacher at Dana Morgan's Music Shop in Palo Alto in the early sixties. He went by Jerry Kaukonen at the time; before he co-founded the Jefferson Airplane. Jerry Garcia was Mom's banjo teacher for a few lessons at Dana's around the same time. She performed at The Tangent Club at the corner of University Ave and Alma St. regularly; as well as playing lead roles in many musicals at Palo Alto Community Theater. It is great to see all of the wonderful performances of Jorma solo and ESP. with Hot Tuna partner, bassist extraordinaire, Jack Casady. Mom, ya gotta get back out there; at 84 you're just getting started!!!
