-Jorma, with his buddy Jack bass player, they are my heroes. Not only did they inspired me in deciding to learn to play acoustic and electric, but when I read one day that both of them escaped for holidays in scandinavia to free skate for endless miles on frozen lakes, that made me want to learn skating. Now I've also been roller skating for more than 20 years on roads and sidewalks.

I really like this video. As a Hot Tuna / Jorma fan since the first Hot Tuna vinyl album, I spent years trying to imitate a fraction of Jorma's playing style, having watched a few other Jorma videos. This is a great video that he backs up to the very start, and gives some background. I get some idea of how he does his magic, and he gives some solid advice. I think credit goes to the interviewer for asking the right questions.

"Third Week In Chelsea" is also finely performed on the Hot Tuna "And Furthermore" record, which I have on CD, and autographed by Jorma and Jack. So cool.

Nobody pulls sound out of an acoustic guitar like Jorma: those nasally rakes near the bridge kill me, the clean full tone, and his rhythmic patterns are unique. Been listening since the early 70's, used fingerpicks for years (until acrylic nails came along). Bravo Jorma!

Excelent video, thank you! Genesis was the first song I learned to fingerpick. It took me tens of ours to figure out how the song is played and how to get my thumb to do its own rhytmic part. Saw Jorma in Helsinki yesterday, he really is the master of acoustic fingerpincking style guitar and a great songwriter too. Saw him and Jack -92 and I think Jormas playing is even better now!

great interview with a great player/instructor - love that 'complete' sound - he always sounds great with Jack, but nothing is 'missing' in the solo performance - in fact, the solo performance might even be more impressive because he's got such a great groove going...'the ear wants to hear" - (mr. burns' voice) excellente!

These last years Jorma has done Winter sessions of Fur Peace Ranch in a warm place such as Maui, San Diego, Desert Springs. I've gone to two Winter sessions: he is just the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. His wife is a sweetie, too. He enjoys teaching ALL levels, not just super players. Very patient.

I had lessons way back in the 60's in San Jose and got these recordings as a bonus. Jorma said they were 1962 in San Jose. He was called "Jerry" back then. I have uploaded them and you are free to download them. app.box.com/shared/20o9rl1dp8 Enjoy

I'm a bit late to the Koukonen/Casady fan club . . but better late than never. Jorma is so easy to watch, listen and learn from. I've been lucky to see Tuna a few times in the last 7 years. He makes it look so easy but this is tens of thousands of hours playing/practicing. And watching him do this makes me want to play more, which is the entire point. Thanks for posting this.

"I'm not a scale guy" BOOM, proof that you don't need to be slaving over scales day in and day out to become an incredible artist. Not that this guy isn't special or anything, but still. Play what sounds good to you! Memorize the shapes that YOU like. Chances are you're playing scales anyway. Sitting down and trying to learn theory can be some of the most defeating moments of your life, at least for me and many others. If you're to get anything out of your instrument, it's through putting your emotion into it.
