Assim como ocorreu em Samurai Shodown IV, SPECIAL veio para corrigir os erros do seu antecessor e trazer de volta mais personagens para a trama. Os personagens Sankuro e Yumeji foram trocados pelos chefes Amakusa Shiro Tokisada e Zankuro Minazuki, enquanto o personagem secreto Poppy foi trocado por Rashoujin Mizuki, que é selecionável sem a necessidade de um código.
Os movimentos Zetsumei Ougi e Overkill Move foram adicionados. O primeiro é um golpe que pode matar o inimigo ainda no primeiro ROUND se algumas condições forem alcançadas. Pequenas mudanças gráficas também foram feitas para dar um novo ar ao jogo, assim como 3 novas fases para os 3 novos personagens foram adicionadas.
Uma segunda versão chegou a ser testada localmente no Japão, chamada de Samurai Shodown V Special: Final Edition, porém esse aqui acabou mesmo sendo o último título lançado no Neo Geo e a SNK passou a usar a placa Atomiswave da Sega Sammy.

Having seen footage of of SamSho 1-5 Special, it’s like this game got better and better. It got darker and more dramatic, more technical and more exciting to play. I can see why it came back.

The main problem is that, specially on III, V and V Special, the gameplay balance is almost inexistent. Some character has huge advantages against others and the damage chart is way too high too. If we are talking just aesthetics you are completally right, but on gameplay some of this game left room to major improvements. I hope they correct some of this in the newer edition that it is gonna be included on the Samurai Shodown Neo Geo Collection.

Hi do you know how to uncensored and put some blood on the menu. Mine is japanese I can not figure out on the configuration where to turn it on. Thanks

You have to enter on the MACHINE OPTIONS and then on the GAME SETTINGS and choose the blood to be red and turn down the censorship.
