Third Concerto (E flat major) for clarinet with Orchestra or Quartet dedicated to S.M. Dom Fernando second. Dom Fernando II e Glória is a wooden-hulled, 50-gun frigate of the Portuguese Navy. She was launched in 1843 and made her maiden voyage in 1845. ( Wikipedia ) I thought this was a person. 😅 Anyway, a beautiful clarinet concerto and Allegro certainly feels celebration.

S.M. (Sa Majesté / His Majesty) Dom Fernando II was the king of Portugal from 1837-1885. The frigate was named after him, but the dedication of this composition is to the King himself (and not the frigate 🙂, which was anyway launched after the composer died)... Beautiful concerto indeed.

@@eyarack1 I see. I was wondering what S.M. stands for. Yes, of course the sailing warship was named after the King. This is great because we don't hear Portuguese composers' works so often, not in North America where I live. 😉
