Despite the fact that they are both England players (sometimes) neither would have a clue trying to hit a MLB level curve ball pitcher like Kershaw. MLB International arm has many of these clinics all over the world regularly baseball being played in a lot more nations than most people realise.

Guys cricket is definitely the more tougher sport - hands down. Baseball is - SEE BALL, HIT BALL wherever . a) You get 3 strikes. Not the case with cricket b) Baseball - The ball comes straight at you without without being bounced of the surface. Even though bouncing reduces velocity (which the American's poo-pooh about & give excuses) BUT a lot of uncertainties are introduced ------ A complete change in trajectory : low bounce , high bounce, deviation , which way it will swing so introduces lot of factors c) Also it's not just see ball hit ball in cricket as a player can be out many different ways : LBW , bowled , caught in the slips etc d) Biggest difference --- THE AMOUNT OF CONCENTRATION required over EXTENDED period of time. if we co-relate baseball analogy : 3 strikes will earn a batter in cricket 18 runs which is nothing. A batter plays 100's of pitches and can be out on any one of those. So ya baseball fans suck that accept that batting in cricket is more skillful

When it comes to batting, in baseball you have fewer but more difficult things to do, and in cricket you have many more easier options. In baseball it is more about skill and reflexes than deciding where and how to hit the ball. In cricket it is more about thought, and where and how hard or soft to hit the ball. Both are difficult but in different ways. Also in baseball you just go out and hit and get back in the dugout. In cricket you have to build an innings over time.

Baseball is the opposite - runs are tough, and the expected outcome of any contact of ball with bat is an out. I love both sports. Have for years. Shame the seasons for English cricket and US MLB baseball almost exactly coincide. April to September for cricket, April to October for baseball. Expectation on batting are completely different between the 2. A cricket innings from a proper batsman is expected to last dozens.. maybe even hundreds of balls without him being dismissed. He can score anywhere 360. decide whether or not he wants to run when he hits the ball and the bowlers are restricted by the 15 degree bend rule (no chucking). In baseball getting on base one innings in 3 or 4 is good. But the obstacles for success are entirely different Baseball batters have 90 degrees in front of them to work with. If they hit it in that 90 degrees they HAVE TO RUN. The most common out in baseball is a "force out at first base". You hit it in front of you (so the ball stays fair between the first and 3rd base lines as far as those bases?) you HAVE TO run. You might not want to. You might see you've hit it straight to a fielder. Tough. You hit a fair ball. you are obliged to run. Baseball pitchers - unrestricted by the 15 degree bend rule average perhaps 6-8Mph more than bowlers. There are several pitchers who can rev it up past 100mph. The difference between 88 - 90mph and 94-96mph (An average opening bowler in cricket Vs an average starting pitcher in baseball) in terms of your reaction is a huge difference. Ask any batter of either sport the difference between 84 mph and 90 mph. 84 mph is easy. 90 mph to face is a whole other game. You'd swear the difference was much much larger between the 2 balls because you are working at the very edge of the ability to react. So then add another 6-8 mph to that. Take 92 mph and make it 98 mph. Maybe 100 - maybe even 104. Suddenly the idea of hitting a ball fair for a run seems very different. One thing that cricket is a million miles behind compared to baseball is stats. Cricket collects bad stats, the wrong stats. "Control" is a bloody terrible stat. Almost entirely subjective. Maybe useful for one on one coaching where the coach and the player trust each other, but for analysis it's bloody awful (Like fielding error in baseball - another terrible stat) Then what is done with the stats. Baseball has it nailed. Cricket hides theirs from the public. Despite Hawk eye pre dating pitch tracking by years. Baseball pitch tracking data for every game it is collected is available to anyone who wants it. Whereas Hawkeye's data is cut down, hidden and abstracted. Cricket measures very poor success metrics. It publicises embarrassingly irrelevant metrics on its TV coverage and hides the real data from the fans. In this regard cricket has a hell of a lot to learn from baseball

I'm English and love cricket. I've never heard of a stat 'control'...? What do you mean by that? I mean, a part of playing involves 'being in control' of a shot, for example, but it's not represented by a stat, it's just a judgement of a particular shot. In terms of the stats in cricket, I'm really not sure what you mean. Almost every possible stat in the game is accounted for, and the most meaningful ones are the prominent ones. The stats, of course, do not tell the full story and can sometimes be misleading, but you can dig deeper into the analysis if it's deemed necessary. For example, if two bowlers take five wickets each in an innings, but one takes the top five batsman and the other takes the five bowlers, then those five wickets each are of very different value, BUT, for all intents and purposes, with regards the stats, it will only appear that two bowlers took five wickets. That will be addressed in game, but not on the record.
