They focus on pitching. That's why. And some pitchers like Randy Johnson or Zach Greinkie did work very hard to be good hitters. Last year Zach Greinkie became the first pitcher to hit for the cycle in month of April

If it's any consolation, he accomplished a lot in his short life. He pitched in MLB at age 20, was a two-time all star in a four year career, and finished 3rd in NL Cy Young voting in his rookie year, when he won the NL rookie of the year award. A true phenom who did more impressive things than almost anyone who lives to be 75 will do. It's amazing. I remember his 5-Hour Energy commercials just last week, and to think that man is gone now is just shocking.

because when they are already engaged in discussion, you're supposed to take the side where your dugout will be coming from. If he would have approached him from behind, that would be considered bush, and now you're back is to the other teams dugout. It's the proper way to engage in a minor dust up like this where a fight hasn't started but you want to get your point across.

They're mad is because ,Brian McCann, as a old fashioned ball club, peeking at pitch calls is considered extremely unsportsmanlike and you have to be a bitch to boast about a home run you cheated to get. Any pro can hit a home run off a pitch you know the call and the placement so it really wasn't anything but a cheap shot. Even though Cox retired this is still the old fashioned ball club, Go Braves.

Maybe, But I don't know that I'll forget before I'm dead. I remember almost everyone that I admire who has passed in my lifetime. I think in 40 years I might look back or tell the grand-kids about a pitcher that died wayyy too young and had an amazing talent. Who had a ceiling as high as he wanted. About a pitcher who might have gone on to win 300 games and and be top 5 in strikeouts... I might remember what might have been. The main reason I say that is, beside the fact I'm a huge baseball fan, but because All-Star talent, potential greats, and 24 year old's in sports don't die often, its not a common occurrence. Plus the fact that I knew his back story. About how he came to the US, and how much he sacrificed to get here and how hard it was. Its a very unique thing. Thats the reason why I say he might just not be forgotten... RIP JF#16

xXSIMPSXx shut the fuck up you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. First of all in Cuba and the Dominican it’s customary to bat flip and pimp your homer. It’s not viewed as a disrespect, instead they do it to show their love for the game and how appreciative they are to get the chance to play everyday. Only in stupid fucking America do we have to ruin everything thing fun about the game and make it into a white man sport. Then everyone wonders why no one gives a fuck about baseball in the USA. It’s a no fun allowed sport. Bat flip . Beamed. Watching your homer. Beamed. Trotting the bases too slow. Beamed. Looking at the pitcher after a homer. Beamed. Like jesus fucking Christ let these players have a little fun.

Man, watching the tribute today, and what Dee Gordon did with JF's batting helmet on... Its hard not to get a little emotional... The kid was at very least, a generational talent. He had the potential to be one of the top 10-15 all time... He had such a high ceiling. Lol well you need to watch the basketball so you can go for the rebound if you or your teammates miss. And it's not always sure the baseball is a home run and you are usually taught to dig it out till it is confirmed so that if it isn't you get a double or triple. But I don't care if they watch. Pitchers get mouthy as well and do all that staring.
@TestDriveRacing
@TestDriveRacing 5 жыл бұрын
@Blake Herman What do you mean they're different sports? Isn't the object of every sport to get a home run? In any sport, excessive celebration is frowned upon, but I hardly see how watching your home run for 5 seconds or flipping a bat is anywhere approaching excessive. If anything, I would be happy if someone stood there and watched what they thought was a homerun and turned out to hit off the top of the wall, because then they only get a single instead of a double or triple. I just don't understand the mentality of getting so offended that someone watches their long ball for a few seconds or flips their bat toward the dugout. I could understand if they flipped their bat in the direction of the pitcher or they do some excessive dance the entire way around the bases, but to get in somebody's face and start a fight for watching the ball go out for 5 seconds or flipping a bat is just the most petty and butthurt thing I can think of in any pro sport.

This is a classic example where someone CHOOSES to be offended by something. I have seen hundreds of homeruns made by many different players. A lot of them stopped for a split second to watch 'er sail and not one opposing player said anything. The game continued like it was supposed to. The Braves are sore losers and should go back to preschool to learn what happens when you play games. You can lose and you can win. Don't be afraid to lose. On another note, there is a video of a girl who's playing softball for her college. She hits the first homerun of her career. She rounds first and collapses from a freak knee injury. Her team could not touch her or she would be out and if she could not move any further by herself that there would be a pinch runner and it would be an inside the park homerun. The opposing players asked if they could carry her around the bases so she could actually get her homerun. They said this girl deserves it she worked for it. She should get it. It was their idea. The whole place was in tears by the time they got around the bases. Do these MLB players need to be reminded how to act? Remember they are showing the next generation how to act.

Nothing wrong with this at all. Fernandez just hit his first homerun of his career and watches it a little bit. HES A PITCHER, not a hitter, homeruns dont come around very often. Even as he is face to face with McCann there isnt any rising conflict. The only reason this was even an issue was because 3B is a hot head and made things escalate. Even after the benches clear, Fernandez walks toward the dugout and doesnt confront with anyone. An appropriate and mature thing to do. If you want to see immaturity watch Jose Bautista or Carlos Gomez. This was not immature as the announcers said. Ultimately what it comes down to is "Dont get mad, get better".

John 12:25 You can't ask someone to show you proof of something. Only to claim the proof to be fake once they show it. Saying that the Government statistics is false & manufacturered is not a valid argument unless you have proof showing it to be false. That is no different then a Flat Earther asking for proof that the Earth is round. Only to then say that every picture of the Earth from outer space is fake & NASA along with every other space agency around the world is lying.

Okay guys can someone explain this to me? I've been watching baseball since I was 6 (1995) and I don't get it. They're mad at him for admiring his first big league home run? How is that disrespectful? If he had given the pitcher a dirty look after maybe then but that was HIS accomplishment as much as it was their mistake.

Act like you've been there before. Braves acted classless as well in this instance they should've done nothing and plunked him the next time.

i dont agree either but i understand why they got mad...its one of old baseballs unwritten rules...johnson is from the old school mentality which says you dont admire home runs you are suppose to run hard no matter what until it actually goes over....you dont disrespect the game like that...its like showing the opposing pitcher up ...hey im glad they just yelled at him instead of throw a pitch at him like they usually do to retaliate....thats way more dangerous to hit a player on purpose with a fastball pitch ...fernandez is young and needs to learn that...he showboated

But, just because I disagree with hard asses like McCann and Johnson, how does that mean someone knows nothing about the sport? That's a pretty big leap. What is said here about Johnson isn't wrong. He run up and acted like he was going to do something, then hid behind every single player when the benches cleared, then was screaming and swearing like he actually was going to do something about it when he didn't when he had the chance. I realize there are unwritten rules, I just think they're lame. I enjoy when people stare at home runs. Don't like it? Don't throw a meatball over the plate.
@uncjjb24

And not mention, what the OP said here about Johnson having 1/1000th the impact of Fernandez is also accurate. Johnson is batting .219 this year. Fernandez was a truly great talent. He will be missed.

sit n spin for the win I think the fact that it’s “protocol” that you can’t even look at a ball you crushed in the MLB is so stupid like how soft are these pitchers. You got mad that I looked at the ball you threw that I just blasted? Don’t throw me an easy pitch that simple. And on the other hand how come it’s ok for pitchers to celebrate strikeouts. It should be the same “protocol” that if a pitcher celebrates striking you out you get to charge the mound. That’s how stupid and ridiculous these “traditions” are they’re ruining the game
