Met Napoles in 1973 while having dinner in a Mexico city restaurant famous for cabrito. He and his companion walked in, our host recognized Jose, stood and began to chant Campeon, Campeon as did the entire crowd. Much fanfare, toasts, our host being the Governor of Mexico D.F. also recognized by the restaurant crowd invited Napoles to our table to meet and greet and a toast. Great fighter, beloved by all of Latin America and fight fans everywhere.

When someone says Sugar Ray Leonard was the GOAT of the welters it is an insult to Jose Napoles.

There’s only one goat at welterweight and middleweight that is Ray Robinson
@timcobos89545 ай бұрын
@@charlesrazo7246 You are correct my friend, but most of Robinson's time was spent as a middleweight. Even when Robinson was a welter, he fought middleweights and had the luxury of coming in at over 147 lbs. When Sugar lost to Jake LaMotta he was over dried out at 144, so go figure. Napoles may have had a chance against Sugar that night. Jose was beating The Great Carlos Monzon until he got an intentional thumb that blinded him in one eye. After all, Monzon did murder his wife.

@@timcobos8954 Leonard is up there in the welterweights, but remember he lost his title to a old overblown lightweight

@@timcobos8954 he wasn’t 147 or 154 or 160. He was 135 pound guy.
