These shows are more corporate and irrelevant than Oscars, but the people winning TGA awards don't get as much attention as they deserve, definitely not nearly as much as Oscar winners. So this is probably the one huge moment they get and they truly enjoy it. It's good that they have a platform, especially now that they got rid of the infamous "wrap it up" sign. So while I don't care about the award at all I am happy for those who win if it means something to them.

Its also important to nota that game production in most cases now takes longer and is harder to do than movies so OF COURSE the people who get said awards are happy - those are the devs that work their butts off daily, without weekends, to bring piece of themselves to the people, they WANT the chance to feel like their work is worth it.

They used to at least have the "gamer/creator of the year" winner come up on stage. Even Boogie got to go up on stage when he won. It's weird that people who will never get another chance to go up on that stage get their award in a breathless afterthought between commercials for games.

@@Hugsloth I partially agree. I be the main reason is just that it's tough to pick a creator of the year without a giant chunk of the audience either going "who" or cringing. That and I wonder how tight the profit margins are on the game awards. The number of ads might be mainly to keep things balanced. At the very least all the ads are either for games specifically (fine as long as they are entirely separate from the winner selection) or gaming related (AMD getting mentions all over).

@@LanceThumping They profit A LOT from selling tickets and merch. Don't confuse yourself. As soon as it stops being profitable it stops being aired. Corporate stuff is always pragmatic, no "sacrifices for the love of the medium are made" because shareholders gotta have their profitable quarter, especially with a once a year event.

For the big speech, that Avarisi left out, I wish Balatro won since it's the "purest" game since it's a single dev outside of anything just making something for fun. However, Astro Bot is probably the best second choice to follow it. Sure it's a Sony venture, but from what I've heard/seen it seems like they put a bunch of soul into the game and had fun with the properties they could access for references. It seems like a good love letter to games in general. (I think I would've tolerated Wukong but coming from a company in a country where companies aren't entirely separate from the government it'd be far more sus)

I loved it! But only because I grew with the PS line of games and consoles. It touched on my childhood in ways I cannot even describe - and that’s about it. It was fun, not too hard and genuinely funny being able to see all the characters I love “interacting” with me. And again, that was about it. I disagree with the notion of people saying that “it’s Sony’s Mario” since I am sure it isn’t a copy about it, and as you said it, it really did have love and passion behind it. I’m not mad it won, but I’m surprised it won. Even a bit bitter, I’m wondering if I’m missing out on something, was it that good? Couldn’t be, right? P.s: if you ask me, the dlc was my favorite game, I would have liked for it to win. I’m happy it didn’t.

@@habibh42069 About missing out on something, if you are referring to the speech than I think so. The lead for Larian, the Baldur's Gate 3 devs, gave a long speech on stage that was pretty fire, basically about how the future games that people truly love are gonna be made with passion and not by corporate mandate, for players and not to squeeze them for money. I highly recommend checking that part of the stream out. That's why I said what I did. As Balatro was created by a single indie dev, it would've been the best topper to that speech but from what I've seen and heard about Astro Bot it was a still a good choice. Any of the other games would've been far worse. (Elden DLC just because it's DLC)

I can copy paste what I said on the Balatro video: At the end of the stream he said he might stream some more at the end of the month but it's not confirmed. He also said earlier on in the stream that he is soon going to have to talk about the big personal issue that has delayed the Witcher video to give us some details, but not all of them Also for what it's worth he said that he missed streaming 😢 and it made him emotional that (among other things) so many viewers turned up to the stream

Saying Ico and The Last Guardian are not good games is certainly an opinion one can have.
