I agree with 80% of what he says but the other 20% I'm not buying. He's a member of several think tanks and in my opinion is clearly toeing the party line and serving as an advocate for various branches of the US Govt. For example, he gingerly danced around the issue concerning the creation of man-made islands in the South China sea. Also, he claims that our $19.4 trillion dollar national debt is not that problematic even though it's stands in excess of the annual US GDP.

Today it’s much more clear that China can’t rise peacefully because US wouldn’t allow it. Americans will find another fool to stop China just like today they are using Ukrainians against Russia . It’s old trick 😅

I can picture all these white middle aged American men, and women, sitting in this room looking at each other with wide eyes, nodding heads and self satisfying grins. All patting each other on the back and saying "See everything will be OK, we're number one! USA USA USA"

Now at the beginning of 2022, has the world situation proved Mr Nye’s basic assumption of peaceful rising of China wrong?

He talked about the American population in terms of age composition but did not dare to talk about the composition of the population in terms of ethnic groups - that in my opinion, creates uncertainty to the power of USA. The same is true to China.

Racial proportions is not an issue for immigration in America. Within one or generations the new immigrants have assimilated regardless of where they come from. The existing Americans may complain or invent conspiracy theories about immigration, but history says otherwise. In fact, new immigrants are a source of renewal and new ideas for America which is a nation of immigrants. China is ethnically Han and is not welcoming to immigrants. In fact, the genocide of the Uyghurs in Xinjiang, and past subjugation and similar subjugation of Buddhists in Tibet.

@@hydroac9387 China is smart enough not to fill the country with out of control masses. On the other hand US is outrun with immigrants as a result of their open borders policy while their own citizens are dying on the streets from overdose.

@@user-vr6io5xb9e if you look at some of the most influential innovators in the US, you'll notice that many are immigrants. Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Google founders and current CEOs, etc are immigrants or 2nd generation immigrant children. The US is able to attract the cream of the crop from all over the world. The ethnic composition if the Southern border immigrants is not significant. Think Senator Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz etc all from the Southern border.

12:20 Demographic decline. The reason USA is exceptional isn't just higher birth rate, but more importantly immigration, "as a nation of immigrants able to accept and assimilate immigrants." 14:05 Of the top 20 universities in the world, 15 are from the USA, and none from China. 14:20 US culture remains entrepreneurial, with the rule of law and deep capital markets which allows for the commercialization of many technologies. 28:12 Soft power is the ability to get what you want through attraction, rather than through coercion or payment. Combining hard & soft power. China is spending billions of dollars globally. 31:35 Nye was on a panel with Lee Kuan Yew. Will be hard for CN to beat US on soft power-US is a brain drain magnet of talent for entire world. It can recombine them with a diversity that leads to a lot more creativity than you get with an ethnic Han nationalism. 35:19 “China will be a competitor and a challenge. Basically the Chinese want to get rich, they’re not trying to convert us to their version of communism. We can manage and live with them.” 50:00 275k Chinese students in the US

China is basically a realism dominant country, meaning China itself believes in Mearsheimer's theory. And, although Americans are so infected by left wing liberal media, there are a good number of realists. Americans will not allow China to dominate Asia. You can take a look at Trump administration. Peter Navarro. He is working right next to Trump in the White house now in a council that has never been in the White House before. James Mad Dog Matthis. He is making a big deal out of North Korea. I believe he wants to engage hard on N.K to get US force up closer to China's border. Trump looks like he wants to damage China's economy first and contain militarily. Lets see what happens.
