I remember feeling fascinated with the story of Joseph from an early 60´s film being a kid. Now, I am a teacher, and I am sharing the story with my students for "storytelling" purposes. Great vid, deserves many more views!

Many years ago I left one woman for another woman. Everyone thought I was crazy. Then it seemed both women turned against me. One woman told me she wanted to name her female child Saskia. The woman with a broken heart eventually had a child on the same birthday as me. I mean no offence, but many stories are just not finished yet. I consider this moment in time a great blessing in the Spirit of the Patriarch Joseph. Many people do not see how the blessings of the Patriarch Joseph became the blessings of Saint Joseph. @Bronze Spectre That is incorrect. Jacob= father of Joseph was changed to Israel. Joseph was elevated as the 4th father of the nation of Israel (instead of Esau-who went astray from Truth) in line with Avraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Yosef is still Yosef and he is one of the revered guest in our booth this season of Succot.

She has found strength and acceptance in Judaism and now wants to covert. The thing is, she keeps asking me all the law specific biblical story questions and I just don’t remember the specifics! As a lifelong Jew, going to the jcc and then a Jewish middle school, Jewish high school, and Jewish summer camp...I have the knowledge and understanding of Judaism, but I’m not able to articulate it!!! I really appreciated the explanation of Jacob's blessing to Joseph's sons, and how that rectifies a broken pattern, very good explanation and something new that I have learned. However, I am doubtful that Judah's alternative plan was less vile than his brothers. And I also believe it is integral to know that's Judah's change only went about with in hi humbling in the story with his daughter-in-law Tamar. As I read it, the Torah is very open to the flaws of its main characters, I'm glad you mentioned Josephs, but Judah's is integral to the story arc as well.

They didn't dip it in blood. Jews as per the Torah (which Jacob knew and passed on to his sons) don't keep blood lying around. They put some blood on it.

The Stone Chumash version of the Torah translates Genesis 37:31 as "They took Joseph's tunic, slaughtered a goatling, and dipped the tunic in the blood." The Hebrew word for dipped is, ויטבלו, "and they dipped". I would also point out that on Passover, we dipped the vegetable in the salt water. I've been told that an interpretation of that ritual is a symbolism of Joseph's coat.

The answer to your question is found in the Torah itself. In Genesis 42: 18-20 we get Simon being held captive by Joseph. Then it is Jacob who doesn't let the brothers return for Simon. In Genesis 42: 38 Jacob says, "My son hall not go down with you, for his brother is dead and he alone is left. Should disaster befall him on the journey which you shall take, then you will brought down my hoariness in sorrow to the grave." Then the very next line of the Torah is; "The famine was severe in the land. When they had finished eating the provisions which they had brought from Egypt their father said to them, "Go back, buy us some food." They went down to Egypt the first time to get food to last them through a famine, so clearly we can derive that the the elapsed time was several months. Also notice Jacob doesn't say, "Go back for Simon." But "Go back, buy us some food." So clearly the brothers did wait to go back and did just leave Simon there. I do believe that Jacob agonized about the decision, but it seems his decision was ultimately to leave Simon there." Subsequently, in the lines that follow, Jacob still doesn't want to give up Benjamin. It will take Reuben and then Jehudah to finally convince him.

And the celebration of Eid ul Adha (sacrificial commemoration) is done every year in Islam. The story about Abraham sacrificing Isaac is not making any sense. In Genesis 49 you can find al the promises given to Joseph by God and how he will be key person in the gathering of Israel. There Jacob (Israel ) pronounce a patriarchal blessing upon all of the twelve sons, but the most selected are reserved for Joseph, blessings even greatest than those received by Jacob, Genesis 49: 25 mention that he will be crowned with blessings of heaven and earth . His blessing will be passed along generations to prepare the return of the Messiah, even Jesus Christ.

I don’t think the “pharaoh” in Joseph’s time was even called Pharaoh yet. That title wasn’t used to refer to the Egyptian ruler in that time period. Luckily the Quran solves the inconsistencies and mistakes of the Bible by referring to the Egyptian Ruler of Joseph’s time as “King” .
