Thanks for such an informative podcast. I have heard of some of the episodes you mention here; however, not all.

Great podcast. One comment on Prophecy #2. D&C 114:1 gives the prophecy about Mr Patten, but you didn't mention verse 2. It basically gives a possible excuse to that prophecy **IF** Mr Patten had become unfaithful. Also, the church put a qualifier for these verses under the heading of section 114 stating: "Church positions held by those who are not faithful will be given to others." HOWEVER, hilariously, after Patten's death, Joseph Smith destroyed any question of Patten's faithfulness when he wrote, "Brother David Patten was a very worthy man, beloved by all good men who know him. He was one of the Twelve Apostles, and died as he had lived, a man of God, and strong in the faith of a glorious resurrection" (History of the Church, Vol. 3, p. 171).

It’s something apologists always came back with… the “conditional prophecy”. Something I rarely read from Bible prophets but somehow 99% of Joseph’s prophecies are dependent on something happening or someone doing something before it’s fulfilled. As if Joseph knew he was not talking for God …🤦

Either way, Joseph’s myth is still just one big lie……Mormons are as lost as yesterday, and the whole Mormon thing is nuttier than a squirrel turd

I was teaching 16 year olds in SS and one of them asked what did the prophet prophesy? Uh. Oh yeah the civil war! Then one of them pointed out that SC had attempted to secede in the 1830s AND that “prophecy” was withheld from the D&C until after the war began. Those darn kids.

I’ve never heard most of these stories. Very revelatory. Probably more revelatory than Joe himself.

Good stuff, but you need to work on the audio quality. Big mismatch in audio levels between you two.

I am surprised when scholars find parallels with the Book of Mormon and the Bible. However, no matter what, for me an empiricist, when there is no material evidence anywhere on Earth of a Book-of-Mormon community or culture, I can't give much credence to the parallels. Take for example the supposedly great finding in the BoM the use of chiasmus, a style of writing that is not at all rare in literature.

So do you think Joseph was simply smart enough to use it? Serious question, because I agree that it can be created coincidentally, but the Structure and length of Alma 36 goes far beyond mere coincidence. So if he made it up he would had to have been somewhat gifted.

Joseph was using the word government as they do in England. The government can be broken up yet their constitution remains in place and functional. Within a short time the parties set up a new presiding government. The whig party at the time did completely disappear

Joseph Smith jr was called by God&Jesus Christ when he he was 12yrs old...but it's sad to see that people can't wrap their around that one...if God wants it to happen it will happen....

In my opinion the case for Joseph Smith would be best presented if you introduced your belief in the Bible for guidance and authority, share the scripture in Deuteronomy, then go point by point outlining what happened, who was there, and the conclusion is that Joseph Smith failed the prophet test multiple times.

"should wind up the scene" does not a prophecy make! It's an opinion, a guess. It comes from this statement; I was once praying very earnestly to know the time of the coming of the Son of Man, when I heard a voice repeat the following: Joseph, my son, if thou livest until thou art eighty-five years old, thou shalt see the face of the Son of Man; therefore let this suffice, and trouble me no more on this matter. I was left thus, without being able to decide whether this coming referred to the beginning of the millennium or to some previous appearing, or whether I should die and thus see his face. I believe the coming of the son of Man will not be any sooner than that time." So that's how he got the 56 years out of it. However he died when he was 38, so he missed it by a few years.

You are taking two completely different accounts, 8 years apart to make it seem like there is no inconsistency. The “should wind up the scene” statement is reported to have happened in 1835 and gave no qualifiers which you are clearly omitting to make up excuses for a false prophecy. D&C 130 was written in 1843. Stop lying you should know better.
