Joe, I'm a retired M.D. specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. We are the specialists for aftercare in multiple trauma and traumatic brain injury. I would strongly recommend you get referred to a PM&R doc (if you don't have one already) who will maximize and accelerate your recovery. If your left hand is swelling, I would consider an elastic compression glove or maybe an isotoner glove if you can find one that fits snug enough. The therapists( PT, OT, and speech therapy) can give you home exercises and brain exercises to accelerate your recovery. Prayers for a full recovery brother.

I had a bad Harley wreck back on Aug 15 2010, I was in a coma, brain dead and on life support for a month, the neurosurgeon told my wife if I did survive I would be paralyzed. I had numbness from the waist down and in my arms. After 5 surgeries within a year, I regained feeling. I could not even lift my foot up until a year. I'm back to my normal self and been lifting weights for over a year now. Hang in there it will get better.

Glad you made it through that man. I know people who ride. One of them told me that there are 2 types of people that ride, those that crash and those who haven't crashed yet. She always wore full gear because she absolutely knew one day her ticket would be up. It happened 1 year later. A truck nailed her at 15-20 mph. Getting ready to turn amd he was looking one way and not the other and pulled right out on top of her. She lived but crushed her leg and knee, broke her elbow, cracked her carbon fiber amd kevlar helmet but that saved her life. She a,so fractured 3 ribs and punctured a lung that they didn't find out for 10 hours!

Joe, I dumped my motorbike on the Dalton Hwy two years ago. Broken collarbone, ribs, airlift out of the bush, whole nine. I know a bit of what you’re going through. My bland advice is to do your PT like it’s your job. It made all the difference for me. I found your channel a few years ago when I was living in Hong Kong and needed a wilderness fix. This is back when you were in Windsor (I grew up in across the river in MI) and all the trees and birdsong were familiar to me and felt good. A little slice of the woods I grew up stomping around in, eh? And I stayed because you’re good at what you do. I’ll be here when you’re back and good to go. No worries. Get well soon, do your PT, hug your loved ones, and we’ll see you out there again.

Joe, as soon as you're all healed up, as back to normal as possible, I hope your wife kicks your butt good(haha)! We love you man, please be careful going forward. PUSH yourself hard with the PT and OT. The more you push your hands the more you will have a chance of improving them. Prayers for you and your whole family. I have had many injuries (not as bad as yours) and have absolute faith in physical therapy. I have always recovered, and still can do all my kayaking and hiking. The reason is: PHYSICAL THERAPY! It works. It is painful and time consuming, but what could be more important? I know you want to be the old Joe again, and that is what we all wish for you. We want to see you out in your canoe with Wolfie again. Catch a fish. Cook your dinner. Sleep in a tent. Video your beautiful surroundings. We love you, Joe. Get well! Get PT!

Hey Joe, Ontario Physiotherapist here who works with traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. Glad to see you're doing well and although you're probably getting more unsolicited advice then you want .... here's some more lol; be patient and look for the little signs that you may still need some input/rehab whether that is Physio or maybe speech and language pathology etc., hopefully you're a lucky one and avoided it all but sometimes there are subtle things like emotions, memory, word finding, motivation, planning, etc., so although you feel 100% cognitively just keep an eye out especially if those closest to you pick up on it. Many of these issues are hard if not impossible sometimes for the individual to feel which can be a part of brain injury. I don't know anyone personally out that way that works in this area but maybe through connections etc. feel free to reach out if you want me to put a word out among colleagues for people that are in that area. All the best, Mike

Joe, you will repair. When I was 31, farmed, logged, ,family, etc. Work injury. Spinal injury. Six months and 21 days in hospital later surgeon let me go. He told me to never lift more than 15 pounds. Seven months later on a mission trip to Mexico./ Carrying 88-pounds of concrete up a small hill. You will be out camping, running, and be 100% better. God, family and determination. You have it. I have had three more spinal surgeries. Ten vertebrae screwed together top to bottom. Last surgery at 72. Now 76 and last week loaded and unloaded 505 square bales. Around 40 pounds each. I am not exceptional just determined. You are to. God Bless you and your beautiful family.

4) don't ride/drive a motorized vehicle under the influence of anything - this is probably the most important of them all Joe is awesome but he was probably stoned or drunk when this happened. He admitted he blazes every day but never once mentioned that drugs/alcohol had nothing to do with this accident - probably for legal reasons. That fact alone (and the fact that he also does not mention he was or was not wearing a helmet) makes me certain he went riding without proper protection and being under the influence. Bad choices lead to accidents like this. Sad moment but on the plus side no one else was involved/hurt because of his stupidity.

I’m an occupational therapist working in Southern California. I work inpatient and outpatient at a hand therapy clinic my hospital runs. The nerve damage will take awhile. Some of my motorcycle wreck patients have been in therapy (with progress) for over a year. Unfortunately lots of guys wipe out on bikes in congested LA traffic. Follow up with your doctors regarding nerve conduction studies (to assess the damage) and possible surgical options such as nerve grafts that can help. Some options may be time sensitive. BTW. Every coordination and motor control exercise you do with your right hand at this point must be done with intent and laser focus. Good reps mean progress. You have no doubt had some challenges with loss over the years and I pray for your emotional as well as physical health. Best of luck Joe. We are thankful you’re still here.

Subs actually don't make a huge difference. You could be subscribed, but if you don't actually watch his videos, it doesn't help. KZbin rewards numbers actually watching the videos, video engagement, and watching the entire video. Even people with 5 million subscribers were seeing a loss in revenue lately. My accident happened in a second. Just like yours. Physical therapy is a wonderful thing. Keep at it. it is hard to lose anything that we are used to having. . Such as eyesight, our legs, and, of course our arm and hands. Maybe this accident happened because somewhere in your future, there was going to be another one that would take your life. I hope you both make full recoveries and return to even a better life! I’m turning 78 next week and just returned from a trip on the Oregon coast. He won’t be the same. Ect. He was a tad different, but not really. Just seemed like more of a jerk than he used to be. Haha. The reason he seems like more of a jerk is because he has a brain injury. Diagnosed or not that is what will be causing it.

Been there with you brother, I had an motorcycle accident in December of 2014 on my way home from work, spent 2 months in hospital, went through a 3 week coma myself and when I woke up, I no longer had a right leg, chopped off above the knee, I had no other mark or injuries other than the leg, yet I nearly died from multiple organ failure. When I was in that coma I had the wackiest visions/dreams ever lol... I was told I was close to death on a couple of occasions, kind of a miracle I'm still here. Keep positive!! All that was 10 years ago, I've had to learn to try walk again, that was the most difficult part in my situation.
