Come with me on this last overnight at my bushcraft natural shelter camp.
In this video, I travel to the forest where my natural shelter camp is located.
I hike it for about an hour until I find the natural shelter, I get settled in, lay out my wool blanket, cook a steak over the coals of a fire, and enjoy being alone in the forest at my natural shelter bushcraft camp one last time.
I explain why this is my last time there and why I will be tearing it down in the next video.
Thanks folks, and enjoy!

*Hi from Finland!* I tried to find information on the puukko in Finnish but there really wasn't much anything, surprisingly. Just a one sales ad (www.tori.fi/satakunta/Fiskars_Puukko_vuodelta_1967_50253223.htm) on a Finnish ebay-like website: _"Onko kyseessä maailman ensimmäinen puukko jossa muovikahva? Sitä en osaa sanoa, eikä ole todisteita, koska todistajat ovat jo haudassa! RIP!_ _"Olin pikkupoika noin 40 vuotta sitten kun kuulin lahjanantajan sanovan isälleni että älä hukkaa tätä koskaan, että tämä on erittäin arvokas!"_ _Myydään asiantuntijalle joka keräilee esim.puukkoja._ _Hinnasta neuvotellaan sitten tarkemmin!"_ Translated to English: _"Could this be the worlds first puukko/knife with a plastic handle? That I can't say, and there's no evidence because the witnesses are already dead! RIP!_ _"I was a little boy about 40 years ago when I heard a person giving gift to my dad saying "Do not ever lose this, this is very valuable!"_ _This will be sold to an expert who collects for example, puukkoja/knifes._ _The price will be discussed more!"_ Then this in English: www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/fiskars-normark-finland-1967-puukko-1821671746 _"FISKARS-NORMARK, Finland-1967 Puukko style hunting knife, orig leather sheath_ _Vintage 4-3/4" blade hunting knife made by FISKARS-NORMARK - modern stile with traditional Puukko knife lines; made in 1967 in Finland. In Scandinavian countries the Lapp Puukko (knife) is well known and highly esteemed. The Lapland people live in very harsh and challenging environment; long ago they developed a multi-purpose survival knife - the Puukko. Puukko is comfortable to work with gloves on or off; it is simple but practical, lightweight, durable and is made for day-to day use._ _This knife is about 9-1/4" / 23.5 cm overall; the blade is about 4-3/4" / 12 cm. Black plastic handle with bronze guard and pommel (guard in dated 1967); the handle is tight with zero movement. Stainless steel blade is etched on one side with the company logo; the edge has been lightly re-touched, it is RAZOR-sharp; the tip is intact. Original 1967-dated leather sheath is in very good overall condition with all stitching intact; it is in 100% serviceable condition still."_

I was lazy one night and just rolled out a tarp on the ground camping one night in the Dolly Sods Wilderness. Drinking too much probably contributed to this as well. I woke up to not only a severe thunderstorm where I had to roll myself into the tarp like a human burrito to stay dry, but I had so many spider bites on my arm that it was numb for 2 weeks. When I saw the size of the spiders that caused those bites... NEVER AGAIN!

Information on the knife! The knife was probably made in 1967. Rapala lures was gaining interest in us in the late 50s and a distribution company was created in 1959, this was later named Normark Corporation. In 1967 Rapala started doing fishing knives of this kind and thats when they started the co-operation with Marttiini, and got distributed in US by Normark. In mid 70s they started the distribution in Canada. Fun fact!: In 1962, Life magazine published a long article on Rapala and it was in the same edition that covered the history of Marilyn Monroe who had recently died, whereupon it broke all sales record. Probably a big reason why Rapala, and thereby Normark, become popular in North America. Correction! The knife I was referring to was actually a fillet knife with a similar designed handle. The one you have was actually made by Fiskars and distributed by Normark. But there is also a similar knife that was made by Marttini and distributed by Normark, it has the Pukko style handle. Greetings from Sweden and keep up the good work Joe, a fan of your channel!

Even though this video is a couple years old, I just happened to find it in my quest to see them all. First, a house is great...it's a lot of work and expense, but the freedom is worth it. Especially when you own a separate, secluded cabin and private lake, as I do. Never a dull moment...there's always something to do. The main reason I'm responding is because of your Normark knife. I acquired mine as a Christmas gift 51 years ago and it's still one of my most prized posessions. I have never found a more versatile, well-built knife. I've used it for hunting, trapping, fishing, butchering, camping, you name it. I will never, ever be without it. Treasure yours Joe, it'll be a good friend.

I kid you not, I have this very same normark/fiskars knife from my father. He’s only about 60 at the moment. He said he used it when he was in polish scouts near Algonquin when he was about 15-20. The year on mine is too blocky to read in the leather, but I imagine it’s ~70s, unless his father had it before him. I think his father may have bought it for him. Same knife, though. This was such a cool thing to see in your vid! Let me know if you find more info on it! I’ll ask my father about it, and possibly report back! Small world.

Joe the knife is cool. When you showed it, I immediately though it would be a J. Martini from Finland. J. Martini has been doing outdoors knives here in Finland for a long time and the fileing knives are only a fraction of the line. The lion logo looks like a modification from the lion in Finland's flag. Pro tip, don't bludgeon this one with anything while doing firewood or you'll loosen the blade.

Congrats on your new house, Autumn, everything, Joe! Been following you for a few years now and you keep, at times, spilling out your thoughts. I appreciate that a lot. It makes us feel like we know you, like we're there, as your buddies, listening to whatever's going on in your life. It's intimate, kind of. It's a nice thing that you can be familiar with 800 000 people and include us. I'm hoping that 1 million mark comes soon!

That's a nice knife. On the sheet it has The heraldic symbol of the Finnish defence force and says "Made on Finland Corp 1967". It is made by nomark, witch is a company owned by Fiskars. BTW all Marttinis Are not filet knifes. There are also just regular Finnish style puukkos and I've seen a couple of leukus (a beefy, traditional hack-and-slash-knife originally from Lapland.) Also, "A Swedish Finnish style"? For some reason I find that extremely funny. Anyway, greetings from Finland! Great video, keep it up man!

Man this video is an end of an era! The first video I watched of yours was when you first made this and it was snowing. It inspired me to finally take the next step and really improve my bushcraft/ survival skills. Because of it, I started going out by myself into the pinelands and pushing myself, using minimal gear, and really challenging myself to stay the whole night. It's sad to see it go, but with the end of an old era comes the arrival of a new one. I can't wait for your adventures to come- and my own! (Also I love your new intro)

I recognize that knife! There used to be an outdoors store in Ottawa called The Laurentian Trading Post. They had boats, firearms, big fishing and camping section, it was an amazing place to go as a little kid. I went with my mom to pick up a fishing knife for my uncle as a present and bought that exact knife. I'm going to say about 1978 or so. Of course, Dad pointed out it wasn't the kind of knife my uncle was wanting as a fish knife and we went back and bought a fillet knife with a blaze orange handle. I didn't understand why anyone would want a knife that bends over a strong, rigid blade so was perplexed and disappointed. The Normark just looked so much better to me, even if it didn't have a cross guard (I blame Peter Pan for my misguided affection at the time for full cross guards since they obviously make a knife capable of taking on sword wielding pirates). Instead of returning the Normark, I think it went to a different uncle that Christmas, but I don't recall ever seeing it again. I was positive the Lion crest had to mean King Richard the Lionheart, and not the Lion of Finland. Pretty sure Canadian Tire carried these as well.

Cool knife. I have a Normark knife very similar to that one. It is a filet knife, but has the same sheath and handle. I got it from my grandpa. It's very old, but still looks brand new only the sheath is darker from all the times I've oiled it. Glad you like your knife 2. Just went and checked my knife, it says made in Finland on Corp 1967. The blade is 4 inches long and it is very stiff for a filet knife. Wish I could drop a picture in the comments

Midland Englander. In our area we drink so much tea that we might have had an argument and accept a cuppa almost as a matter of course. However, talking out a personal argument with someone is almost always done over a cuppa. I'l 68 years old and I can remember times when we would do just that. I don't know about the refusal if we're not alright though; I personally never turn down a cuppa.👍🤗

I like that you tore it down. Just so that in the future, where a traveler who'd also like to camp / bushcraft will stumble upon what seems like a "virgin" forest and stay there to have fun etc. not knowing that you'd already been there. I don't mean that in a bad way, rather, it's the fun of surviving in "uncharted territory" you know? Kind of far fetch for a lot of people here, but same as multiplayer survival like rust/minecraft etc. wherein you'd want to go as FAR AWAY as civilization goes, just to be alone. If every spot already has a shelter or human invention in it, then it kinda feels like intruding of some sort. So, making it appear as if you were never there is really a treat for other travelers that would wonder there.

don't know much but they supposedly made matching hunting and filet knives. Yours looks like the hunting knife. The Fiskars Normark is a good all-around knife. I had one exactly like yours. Most web sites/auction sites date this knife from 1967, so possibly that is a '6' on the sheath. I did use mine to fillet fish but Normark also offered a true fillet knife. Possibly the handle material is a phenolic resin. I always had trouble keeping knives sharp but I never felt that this one held an edge all that well. Maybe it is just that the stainless alloys of that day were famously difficult to sharpen, at least in comparison to carbon steel. The knives were widely available in good sporting supply stores and they were popular 'upmarket' versions of the birch handled Fiskars/Rapala knives. Maybe I just could not make mine work so well as you are able to.
