Loved this. Such a great mix of discipline and kindness and attention to body position (rider and horse). Thanks for posting!

I love that the answer is always "It depends"! It can change from the beginning to the end of the ride or day to day! I hope you'll come up to Vancouver again soon, I've learned so much more in my journey that auditing a clinic with you again would give me so much more!

Excellent video Joe. Reminds me of the Losgelassenheit. "Connection can dissapear". Also what you say about accessing the energy is 100% true. You actually only get a steering wheel when you have energy into the contact. Great video, thanks.

I love Miklos. He reminds me of my old Dutch warmblood who is buried here at home. Great episode. Get on the NAC Joseph.

That looks so great. I still don't have a horse, but maybe one day, maybe. I love my riding lessons.

Wow, Joseph! Love your videos! That is one of the most interesting videos I have seen on cantering. Finding the energy and not being afraid to add it in is hard for an intermediate rider like myself at 56 years of age, three years into my riding!

This is super helpful even though I ride Equitation. I always used to ride from seat but with all Equitation bits still in place. My current coach wants the perched seat. Can’t stand it.

Is there a reason you don’t do what you think or know is correct or do what you want to do? I ask because I know someone going through the same with an instructor and the instructor gets irritated when the rider says they prefer to ride with the seat bones in the saddle so they can use their hips and lower back correctly to move with the horse in their gaits. The instructor says they don’t teach that way with the seat and told my friend to research another instructor and make sure to ask to watch them teach before paying for lessons. Thanks for the info.

Thank you for this! It’s so helpful to hear you talk through this and describe what you are feeling with the horse. 🤓I can see it (the up energy, looseness, half halt weight shift! 🎉

Thanks! Very useful... it's always a balance and definitely depends on the horse.

I am interested in the varied sounds you make for your horse. If our horse hasn’t heard us make a particular sound before, …. How do we teach them? Just try a sound and wait for their response? Thx in advance. [PS this was a great video and narration]

What do you do if you have a really bad back and leaning forward and always on the forehand?

For those of us new to your videos, (and to dressage) I feel like I need a dictionary - back to front riding? canter SMALLER? maybe you explain this all in a previous video somewhere?
@ariskalaubscherberading196 ай бұрын
He explained back to front. You get activity from the back (hind quaters) for the horse to natuarally go round and connected (on the bit). Front to back would be, when the rider forses the horses neck in to make it 'look' connected but its not. So never ride front to back. Canter smaller - means a collected canter. You collect the canter with your seat, but still leg on for the power from behind. Hope that helps? 😊
