I will never ever forget the moment I heard Josh sing for the first time. I was watching Ally, of course. Well, more like I was listening. The TV was on and I watched the episode but also had my back to the TV at times because I was using my desk top computer. (Everyone remember good old dialup? LOL) I had my back to the TV when he began to sing. I stopped what I was typing and literally froze in the chair as he began to sing. I turned towards to TV and as I listened to Josh, I got goosebumps. That was the very first time I ever got goosebumps hearing someone sing...25 years old and it was literally the first time. Pretty sure my mouth was flopped open the entire time he sang. lol. The very next day, I took my lunch break from work at 10:00 a.m. so I could be at the mall when it opened. And when it did, I went to the record store and bought his CD. Not sure why I'm telling you this 11 years after this video was posted lol.

Same thing happened to me :) ! And what's even more beautiful, years later, there was this same "old" episode on the TV, and I just stumbled upon it. My then 4 year old son was running around the house playing. The moment Josh started to sing he froze, and just stared at the TV for the entire song. His eyes wide open. He was mesmerised...

I was sitting at the computer and my wife was watching the show in a different room Suddenly I heard his voice and immediately had to stop my work and go to the living room where my wife was watching it. I too experienced the same: in my small apartment - typically running around with the TV playing, I heard this powerful, beautifully moving voice fill the room. I was desperate to find out his name, but the show was on German TV and didn't show the credits. A while afterwards - after futile searches - I found him on Barbra Streisand's duets album. FINALLY! I continue to marvel at his talent and especially love his "Bridge Over Troubled Water" duet with Brian McNight and my favorite (or at least one of them) is "Awake". Thank you Josh!!!

I watched Ally McBeal from Day One until it ended. I distinctly recall this episode where a then unknown Josh Groban sang this song. I had tears rolling down my face and knew immediately he was about to become a huge star. That episode was the best way to introduce him to millions of people across the country at once. He is possessed of one of the most beautiful and pure voices of his generation - an absolute pleasure to experience his musical gift and talent.

My fiance was a big fan of Ally McBeal. Me, not so much. We were watching this episode when Josh was a client of Ally's. I never heard him sing before. I became an instant fan. My fiance died in 2007 of a drug addiction, she was only 38 years old. She battled the drugs the whole time we were together. I tried to help her yet never judged her. The words to this song touches me to my very soul.

I’ve had chronic low back pain since 1989. I usually watch tv while laying down on the twin bed that was in my living room at the time. As soon as he started singing, my mouth dropped open and I got out of bed. I sat at the chair in front of the tv. I was no longer feeling my back pain. I was mesmerized by his voice. Then the tears came.

The first time I saw or ever even heard of Josh Groban was when he was 18. I had gone to see Sarah Brightman in concert and out walks this tall, scrawny kid, who just blew the audience away. He sang one song... that's all it took and we were mesmerized.

For those who don't know, this was the moment when Josh Groban and his talent were introduced to the world. I was a big fan of the series "Ally McBeal" back then. This particular episode, as I recall, got a bit of advance publicity telling people a new young singer would be introduced as a character in the show. So I watched it, as I watched ever episode. But when this scene came on .......... no one was expecting THIS. Anyone anywhere who was doing anything and had their TV tuned to "Ally McBeal" dropped what they were doing to watch and listen. It was captivating, mesmerizing. This was 2001, I think. Immediately thereafter, millions ran to their computers to use whatever search engine at the time to search for "Josh Groban" (including me) -- and we "broke the Internet." Service was slowed for hours afterwards. At work the next day, Josh's performance was all anyone could talk about. I've heard recordings of Josh performing this song. But nothing tops hearing and watching it in the context of this scene. All these years later, it never fails to move you. The scene where the camera pulls back showing Ally alone in the ballroom (in her imagination) -- as though he were singing only to her -- is fantastic cinematography and is how so many people felt watching Josh sing. This scene is a TV legend. Be sure to search out and watch the other "Ally McBeal" episode that Josh appears in later on, where Ally encourages him to sing a song at his mother's funeral. Equally captivating.
