You have to listen back at the music you created for many reasons. The thing that gets me about listening to your own songs is that some when you go back and listen you'll feel great pride, nostalgia and it brings you joy but then on the other hand you can listen back to the same songs and feel totally insecure, embarrassed and think the songs you thought were great now you think suck. It's a strange thing I personally go through, I'm sure other musicians do too but you just gotta keep on keeping on because you love the music. Usually your biggest critic and obstacle is your own self so if you can get past the I, me, me, mine you'll be alright. Peace and Love everyone ✌ & ♥️

Josh Home is my hero musically and personally. He's a bad ass and a real musician. He has never chased a genre or sound in the hopes it would be #1 on the charts with a bullet. Its unique because of what he just explained. I love that guy. Personally I make music that I want to hear that I don't hear or can't find any were else. I listen to my recordings over and over again. When I get those goose bumps while listening to something my band mates and I created I know its good. Which is a real challenge when it comes to capturing the sound in the studio. Creating the song from inspiration is one part, capturing it correctly and honestly in the studio is a whole other process. This man is my hero. I don't have many if those left. I love u Josh and have the greatest amount of respect for you. You have stood the test of time in the industry while still maintaining your truth of who you are and what original music you make.

I never had any expectations of being a famous rockstar--I just like playing guitar and singing, and if I happen to get a free beer or two or a couple of bucks in my pocket, that's fine. The thing that always killed working with bands for me is that everybody I would try to make music with always wanted to stick with one thing. I never stuck to one genre on my own because I never wanted to. If any of the songs I've written were in a specific genre, I just did it to see if I could pull it off authentically, and then I wanted to try it again with a new piece in a new style. Maybe that's not marketable, and maybe almost nobody besides myself and my friends and family have ever heard my stuff, but out of almost 20 years of home recording and around 100 completed tracks, I've done a bunch of songs that I'm truly proud of. My total experience with playing in bands might comprise a total of 14 demo songs, and they're not bad--but the love of the craft was just never fully present when I was expected to stick to one style or another.

"Not every song can be your best" This is a nuanced point. In my experience, if I worried about every new song being my best then I would never write new songs. I would get stuck in a loop of thinking the song could be better and perpetually tweaking it and never be satisfied. But that's probably why I only play house parties and dive bars around town. I still have fun.

And this is the reason why he is such a genius when it comes to expressing himself in the music. Nothing is taboo or off limits. Creating what sounds good to him & what he loves to play. Love Josh Homme and QOTSA. A one of a kind band where no one sounds like them or write songs like them. As a song writer him and Nick Cave are on another level. I mean no one tells a story like them. (take "If i had a tail" or "feet don't fail me for example") And as a guitar player he is one of the greatest and most unique players. He has a very unique and untouchable sound. His guitar tone sounds so easy to get when you listen to it but once you try to get it you just can't. Just like Billy Gibbons and John Fruciante or other great ones on the same level

So, he's saying he doesn't want to be labeled as "Desert Rock? Understandable, but it's still a shame bc that scene was cool
@ks-zc1jh4 жыл бұрын
It really was. A mostly overlooked scene that was only related by a sort of tone rooted in youthful angst and the big idea of freedom. So many great bands, that really didn't sound a lot like each other, often times nothing at all alike. I'm definitely biased though, the Desert Rock thing was the coolest big deal for a little desert kid like myself. Admittedly, I missed the peak by a few years, and I didnt get to party with these folks when they were throwing their desert parties. But they inspired our desert parties.

@@Banana_Split_Cream_Buns I don't disagree with your definition, but most bands in the "grunge" scene really didn't care for the title. I always though Desert Rock was fitting, because, to me, those bands sounded like the Mojave Desert, which I grew up in as well. Stoner Rock is pretty straight forward in theory, but even at that, a lot of bands don't really appreciate being labeled as such while others revel in it.
