Josh Homme (Queens of The Stone Age) - about Kyuss:
In 2011 Josh Homme contributed to my feature documentary 'Lo Sound Desert' (2016), a film about the Californian desert rock scene, with this in-depth interview.
This is a snippet of the original footage concering his band Kyuss.
_
Lo Sound Desert is a documentary about the Californian desert rock scene.
What was started by revolting punk rock kids, hidden from narrow-minded authorities of the sub-urban desert communities in the early 80s, gave birth to bands like Kyuss and Queens Of The Stone Age. From jamming all night in the middle of a surreal desert landscape to headlining European stages - “Desert Rock” continued its underground spread and became international treasure.
With the same punk rock attitude and artistic DIY approach it captures the vibe of the 90s 'Coachella Valley's' music scene and leaves the narration to the main protagonists themselves: Josh Homme, Mario Lalli, Brant Bjork, Alfredo Hernandez, Scott Reeder and many more from bands like Kyuss, Queens Of The Stone Age, Yawning Man, Fatso Jetson (etc.).

I can confirm. I saw QOTSA with NIN in Wellington New Zealand and he left his guitar hanging off the mic stand howling feedback until the crowd went nuts for the encore, and after the encore he hurled the guitar right over the top of the drum kit and it landed at the back of the stage. It was a great show. These guys are the real deal, I don't think they make musicians like him anymore.

@LAZERBEAM Sleep Token is doing something a bit different though. I know they blew up, so not underground, but it's certainly an unexpected sound, that I kind of enjoyed. It's like all the pop rock bands of the last few years, if they actually were good, and wrote creative songs, took risks and added a few flashes of prog metal to spice it up. It's like they took the bland formulaic pop rock and subverted it, kind of the reverse if what the industry does.

Or overrated. Welcome to Sky Valley, pretty damn fucking good and One Inch Man from the follow up album and the serial killer song I forget the name of and that's pretty much it as far as Kyuss go. I listen to a lot of Sabbath, Zeppelin, the groundhogs, later on I got into maiden and priest and stuff like that.but the one thing I can say is that Scott Reeder is the Geezer Butler of my generation. Is playing is very much like Geezer's.and when the albums were mixed his face playing was thrown right up front with a loud volume in the mix which was unconventional at the time but really Nate everybody aware it was listening to those guys of what a talent Scott was (still is for that matter).the man takes a right-handed base and flipped it around without even fixing the strings. He's got to think in reverse when he plays. Sometimes I watch him play live in old clips and I'm just gobsmacked. I consider myself very lucky to have seen them play before Kyuss broke up.

"Ya know" - I don't know him personally, obviously. But I have seen other of his interviews where he didn't say that so much. His repeated use of the phrase tells me that he is really not comfortable about talking this stuff, and his past with his friends/bandmates. Ya know?

I loved the subject you asked about. But I feel you could have asked him about the albums, mainly the last three, because at the end of the day, songs and albums, are his and kyuss' ultimate legacy. And not to mention the colossal influence it had and has still to this day to countless bands all over the world. BFTRS and WTSV are two of the greatest heavy albums of all time, IMO. Thanks for the video though !!

Fortunately I was able to see Kyuss lives a few years back before Josh sued them over the name. Great show from one of my favorite bands. Apparently he was ok with them getting together and playing the songs...he just had a problem with the name. Usually after it goes there (law suit) the original members will never get together and play again. ✌️
@hps69
@hps69 2 жыл бұрын
Not entirely true about Kyuss not getting back together. I read in an interview that Brant reached out to Josh recently about playing together again but Josh never got back to him (probably because of the legal issues involving his family) so us fans will have to wait until then.
