I went PDHS with these and played football with them. Parties were wild, good times back in the desert for sure. Josh, Brant, and Chris were phenomal ball players and could easily played at the collegiate level. I'm glad they followed their passion for music. I' found this video while listening to old songs we listened to before each game. Sorry for the rant. Just a trip down memory lane.

Saw Kyuss April 3 1993 when they opened for metallica in melbourne. John Garcia stage dived and tried to get back on stage and had a huge punch on with security. Homme had to tap the security guys shoulders to say , " Hey buddy! Thats our singer!". Made a great impression on 15 year old me!

Upon my first listen to Welcome to Sky valley I recognized it had a very specific feel to it, something akin to a masterpiece forgotten by time due to mere chance. Interesting to know Kyuss effectively had that exact thing happen to it. It really sums up the truly unique and mystique passion this band burned out while it shone with brilliant life in some distant desert not to be seen until it was gone.

Pro tip check out the documentaries such hocks such hounds (free here on KZbin,) as well as desert age. It’s available on KZbin for a price but you might be able to find it somewhere else. The first one is a great documentary on the evolution and proliferation of heavy underground music over the past 50 years. Includes bands like pentagram, Sir Lord Baltimore, Captain beyond, the obsessed, earthless, Sun0))), acid king, dead Meadow, sleep, fu Manchu, monster magnet, fatso Jetson, The second one focusing on the desert scene specifically. Also if you want something to blaze to check out yawning man. A major influence on Kyuss and widely excepted to be some of the originators of that desert rock scene. The music literally sounds like the desert. I recommend their debut album rock formations although everything they’ve done is great. The debut didn’t come out until 2006 because they were recording under a different name in the 90s making slightly different music but it’s totally bad ass. Also their original demos from 1986 when they first formed are available as well. Other projects to check out related to them would be dark tooth and counter and 10 East. Sorry I know this comment got long but I just love talking about music with people. Don’t know many people in real life who like this kind of shit. Enjoy.

As an album it is by far their best. By far. As an album. No question. I cannot stand idiotic purists that seem to be listening to the phantasm of the "original" and "essential" idea of the band more than to the actual musical material. "And The Circus Leaves Town" never let's you down musically which cannot be said about any other record by KYUSS. (I bought all of their records on one day after being introduced to their music in around 1999. I totally loved their stuff from the first listening on.)

This band was a landmark in rock music...Goss was inventing a new style, stoner rock, and produced and played with the members of QOTSA and Kyuss...Kyuss was the second band ever noted as desert /stoner rock, and they were incredibly good in what they created...for me all their records are gems of sensitive heavyness and I love them all...just like the records of the Masters Of Reality!!! Each album had some crunchy bone breaker, and epic soundscaping , psychedelic trips through Palm Desert...its simply useless to compare them with their others, or with other bands, because they didn't wanted to repeat themselves...its so easy, a good band always to drift forwards in my opinion🤩🎵🎸🎹🏜️🏞️🏜️😎✌️

@Gene Bone Naaah, Goss was attracted by Homme's talents...he saw the big potential he has, in writing songs, playing instruments and was very fond of his ideas...it was, Goss that convinced Homme to change name of the band and join his studio, where was better conditions to produce, mix and records their material...they were friends as I know...i don't sum up one above the other, that's not my intention! But it's right what you say! JOSH WAS THE BOSS OF KYUSS...they hadn't exist without him...i just wonder why Garcia was singing most songs, because I tend to like Homme's voice more🤩🎸🌟😋😎🌄🏜️✊

@Gene Bone Ha ha ha, really...well,i guess so, Garcia went better with every year that passed, and took control over his voice...screamed less and sung more...i love the solo albums mostly and the acoustic one, where he plays so accurately unplugged, so rhythmically clever and straight...well,its the experience makes talented men become good shouters and axemen too...i agree with you...on their debut it's hearable...a classic, but I always thought, hm hm...for me as singer and son of a chamber tenor, I wished more chorus parts and another voice on that album, sorry Mr. Garcia, nothing against you, but it's matter of taste! That he later became near to Blue Cheer's singers voice...is very nice, the later stuff is far better if it's about singing😎🌟🎸🤩🏜️🌄🏜️🚀😉👏

I was lucky enough to see them on the Blues For The Red Sun tour with Brandt. They played to a packed crowd of 15 people in this huge venue in VA Beach...no one was there. If they could have played just 15 minutes away in Norfolk at a place called KIngs Head Inn they would have had a much better show with at least 70 to 100 people. Kyuss were virtually unknown back then on the east coast. It was a weird time for bands back then. It was all word of mouth.

@@longlive8850 Well, WTSV is basically one long track that has different movements. The writing, arranging, performances,....especially Reeder's bass guitar,...it's all top notch. It combines Metal, Psychedelic, Groove/Funk, and elements of Classic Metal & Rock. It's just my favorite of theirs, and frankly, I prefer it to the Nirvana-wannabe bands that were plentiful in the '90's. As a musical work, it really is an epic. That's just my opinion though. I understand different people prefer different things/sounds.

@@dmreeoogdaq I agree man. I love WTSV so much. I first heard it 1994 on cassette tape. I went to bed listening to that album every night for about 6 months and I have been listening to it regularly ever since. In fact I just listened to it again today. The way the album opens with Gardenia is just so huge and inviting and when the bass and drums kick in, man, that groove!!! I just love the groove, the warmth, the earthiness and also the psychedelic tones in it. It is a masterpiece. Apparently they had a lot of fun making that album and you can hear it. I was lucky to see them live once in April 1993 when they supported Metallica in Australia. It was Scott, John, Brant and Josh on stage. It was epic! It was life changing and I am forever grateful I got to see them live once.

Great video. I was hoping Yawning man would get a mention though. They were widely excepted to be one of the originating bands of that desert rock scene along with Kyuss. So much so that Kyuss covered their song catamaran on the circus leaves town. Having said that I know this video isn’t about Yawning Man but you should seriously consider doing a video on them. Underground desert legends with a major influence on Kyuss.Their history is fascinating and their music is totally bad ass in an interstellar kind of way. Here’s a quote from Brant Bjork about watching them play at the generator parties.. “They were one of the first bands that I heard that surrendered to the environment and just let go of any kind of sonic, urban pursuits like punk,” he says. “They sounded like the desert.” And I’m here to tell you that they do sound like the desert. They wouldn’t release there debut album until 2006 but it and everything else they’ve put out is absolutely bad ass. The album is called rock formations. They released several subsequent albums as well as the demos they made back in 1986 and all of it is just gold. Also the guitar player Gary Arce has a couple of other side projects like 10 east and dark Tooth encounter that expand on that sound a little bit.

Not a place I'd expect to hear Persona and Zero Escape music. As much as I love the music in both series, I find it very out-of-place in a video like this. Regardless, love Kyuss to death. Sky Valley is easily my second favourite album of all time.

I can’t imagine making a biography & releasing it w/o knowing how to properly pronounce the name of the most famous & integral subject I’m covering. 😬 Don’t get me wrong, I like this video (gave it a thumbs up) & I really don’t mean to be mean but it’s ‘Hom-Me’; not ‘Home’.

we used to call it "desert rock" i have no idea how " :stoner rock" became popular. similar bands have no more drug influence than any other type of rock music. very strange.

As much as I enjoy Brant and John as solo artists...creative differences with the best songwriter of your scene...says more about y'all than it does Josh, and I love Kyuss as a band...it just seems silly to disagree with someone who is better at the job than you are...

Wow... I just"proved" my drug theory firsthand. I actually saw KYUSS opening for White Zombie and Danzig, not Soundgarden,my coronavirus fevered brain remembered specifically the rather large, scary goth ladies pushing my frightened skinny tripping dude ass around like a RAG DOLL...haha.😂😂. I had seen Monster Magnet open for Soundgarden at that same menu, around the same time... perhaps therein lay that awkward confusion
