John Glover has always been one of my favourite character actors and I'm so glad I discovered his work in this underrated gem. He is so good here - funny, creepy, intelligent and completely believable.

Saw 52 pickup when it was released. Have not seen it since. Great film & great cast. Perhaps John Glover's greatest performance was as power mad second-in-command headmaster in The Chocolate War

I consider this one of the most underrated films of the '80's. John Glover STEALS the movie as one of the vilest scumbags EVER, and Jost Vacano's (Das Boot) camerawork is spellbinding. "Have a nice day, Sport."

"Runaway Train" and "Barfly" were the best of the Cannon Films.

I'm pretty sure That Championship Season was a Cannon Film, and that was good.

I would add Shy People to the list of good Cannon Films. Barbara Hershey is amazing in it.

Shy People is a pretty good movie. Nice to see that somebody remembers it.

0:00-0:24 I would add Bloodsport, Revenge of the Ninja, and (in an ironic sense) Death Wish 3. And I haven't seen Breakin' yet, but that's a cult favorite, so we'll see. But yes, most Cannon films are crap. Invasion USA, Superman IV, Over the Top, Death Wish 2, Enter the Ninja, Missing in Action, American Ninja, Hercules, Cyborg, Delta Force, Cobra, Link...all crap.

It's Jost Vacano that makes this film deliver.

Great film. You're right: great cast, but John Glover steals the show. After I saw him in this, at the time I thought he would make an excellent Joker if they ever made a Batman movie. A few years later, they did, but Tim Burton got Jack Nicholson instead. Nicholson's performance was very good, but I think Glover would have been scarier.

Amber Lynn and Honey Wilder as well.

@@kyokogodai-ir6hy 6 years late but I think Jamie Gillis is in it too...isn't he the one in a hot tub with Amber Lynn? Which would make sense, as I think they were living together at the time. Sharon Mitchell, Randy West and Erica Boyer are listed on IMDB as part of the full cast too, but I don't know if I remember all of them in it or not.

A good thriller but 52 Pick Up lacks the humor of Elmore Leonard's novel.

Along with "Dead Bang (1989)", "8 Millions Way To Die (1986)", and "Sharky's Machine (1981)", this is one of the few cinematographic gems that I hadn't seen before and that I've discovered so far this year. Very recommended.
