16 teams, 4 SEC, 4 Big 10, 3 Big 12, 3 ACC, 2 G5, and ND has to get off the pot and join a conference to get in. I think the at large bids are a joke because it's always going to be "The SEC and Big 10 need more" If the 4 best teams from your conferences don't give you a better shot at a nattie than the the rest having 3 or less, you don't need more than that in to be begin with.

It isn't a legitimate playoff because there is a selection committee. A legitimate playoff has a system that doesn't have a committee. A true playoff includes a way that allows ALL the participating teams have one path to the playoffs. Every single player and coach knows EXACTLY what they need to do to qualify for post season action. The path involves winning. Nothing else. There is no ranking that has an effect. There is no vote. Of course, tie breakers must exist, but they must be the same for all and all must know the EXACT mechanisms of the tie breakers before the first practice of the season. You win your way in and as long as you win, you continue on. I can already hear the arguments that this is unfair and to the people who think that way don't have a clue. To those who think winning is only one part of the process, aren't qualified to have an opinion. Winning every game is the ultimate goal of every player, coach and member of the athletic department. Winning your way in is the only thing that should matter. It isn't some aspect that must be judged by people locked in a room using secret votes. If a perceived "lessor" team is included, they won to get there. Games have bona fide winners and losers and losers should be eliminated, even if some gambling website thinks that to get the money bet on both teams to be equal, they would give gamblers 20 points to bet on the winner vs another team that lost. The first round of the playoffs should be the conference championships. The losers are out. How in the world do you expect to have a true national champion if they can't win their own conference. I can already hear the criers talking about how hard some conference schedules are vs others and some undeserving teams might get in, so what? If they suck, they will get eliminated. That is the entire point of a playoff. Crowning a champion isn't a system that pits the teams that win beauty pageants into a tournament. It is a system that allows all of the teams a chance to get in and the best teams eliminate the worst teams by beating them in a game that is actually played. A true playoff does everything college football fans want except keep the importance of the bowls, but you can't say you want to keep the importance of the bowls because of tradition, when we had 16 bowls in 1981 and in 2024 we have 47. That is the tradition that is so important to ensure we protect at all costs? Really? A true win to be in playoff makes the regular season vital by not allowing multiple teams from the same conferences to enter the second round of the playoff. If your only path in, is to be one of the participants of your conference championship game and the only way to proceed, is to win that game makes for a system that checks all the boxes, except for the people who want their favorite team to get a second bite of the apple and I'm a Texas fan.
@kevinbond89662 күн бұрын
It's literally impossible to do that when you have 9 conferences that are at 3 different levels. In order to implement your idea without destroying college football would be for the Power 2 conferences to break off from the other 7 conferences.
@EnvirotekCleaningSystems2 күн бұрын
@@kevinbond8966 Kevin, you are mistaken. If the other conferences are at a higher level , then they will win the championship. That is what would happen. Do you believe those lessor conferences have teams that would win it all? If so, then those conferences aren't at a different level at all.
@kevinbond89662 күн бұрын
@@EnvirotekCleaningSystems There is a very small chance an ACC or Big 12 team could win the national championship. That small chance is not enough to pretend the SEC and the Big 12 are on the same level. But maybe I'm wrong and SMU is about to win the Natty!!....or maybe they're gonna get smoked. This playoff will be a good test to see if the ACC and the Big 10 are on the same level.

The reason they did they playoff like they did, is so teams like ASU and Boise could make the CFP given the media Bias. ESPN panders to their audience, which is overwhelming SEC and national brands.
@MattBuild42 күн бұрын
So in 2026, Boise State will be in the PAC and will play their PAC schedule + at Oregon, vs Memphis, at Louisville, and at Western Michigan. Youre telling me there is no way for Boise State to get a bye? Not even if Oregon won the B10, Louisville won the ACC, Memphis won the AAC, WMU won the MAC and Boise went undefeated? If your gonna penalize Boise State for the conference they play in, why do conferences get to reject programs from their conference for things that have nothing to do competition in football. Competitively speaking over the last 30 years, Boise State has done way more than Purdue, Minnesota, Indiana, Northwestern, Maryland, Rutgers, Miss State, Kentucky, Vandy, South Carolina, Mizzou and A&M. So if your conferences are truly about competition, why does one of the most competitive football programs in the last 3 decades keep getting rejected by the P4?

The best teams earned a bye. It makes the conference championships more meaningful. Also some of the last games of the regular season. The last thing we want are teams sitting their best players just because they’re a lock. Four extra games are just too many for these kids but this way there is no complaining with team 5-12 because you are lucky to get a shot. Just re-seed after round one.
