The program is now willing to spend money. How much and on what and who will be important going forward. IMHO, Andy Kotelnicki will be the key. He must ensure that Hagans and O'Brien know what to fix and are fixing it. He must also incorporate and call plays that work without being over-reliant on gadgetry and predictable end zone corner fades.

His presence merely wont...but with defensive success and franklins recruiting skills i think we will see an upward trajectory. Especially if we are a top 5 D next year. I think jim knowles will be franklins longest tenured assistant to this point.

@@caseyschoenleber1760 We've been a top 8 defense the last 5 seasons (if you ignore covid). Not sure what 3 ranking spots do. With that said, I think we're more than fine with personnel on defense.

I felt the same way as I did after the New England vs Seattle superbowl..why throw it!?!? You were running the ball great, eat up the clock and at least get a FG..they had no business throwing the ball on that play

With Jim Knowles in as DC I think we’re going to see Penn State open as a seven point favorite against Oregon. If he can shut down the ducks like he did in the Rose Bowl, we’ll be cooking with gas.

$$$ is no promise of getting to the top ! --- Ask Oregon or Texas - who both spent more than OSU ? This specific Buckeye collection of players were just better. However the coaching and development of that group was largely in house for this team ! --- This move certainly should give PS greater expectations having spent the $ ? - - - In my view their seed gave them a huge advantage this past season. The opposite of OSU - or Oregon who earned a better place ? Variables they can't control are also very real and may have more to do with the outcome ?

Year in and year out the teams spending top 10 $ and NIL will win the NC. It’s just the way it is. Of course it’s not the only thing but it’s a huge part of it.

The conversation radically changes when PSU levels the playing field with Michigan and Ohio State by beating them at least at a 50/50 clip. And now, add Oregon to the mix. I doubt, with the SEC and BIG adding quality teams, anyone goes undefeated anymore. Too many very good teams to have to beat. That PSU has a horrendous history against Ohio State primarily must change. Maybe it now does.

It starts to change when PSU starts to invest as those teams do. Kraft has changed that, and so now there is a chance to build to that level.

Youre not wrong. Even being a cut below in only one position group, which i believe was the case for penn state this year (wide reciever) gets exploited by good teams and coaches

Spending money is big in the current college football landscape but lets not forget Franklins issues BEFORE NIL. He is still the same guy who squandered leads and lost some games to inferior teams on top of the good ones. He has great coordinators and players but I have a hard time believing anything until i see it. He was probably just as lucky as good in 2024. Went very far without any big wins

The last several years the problem is winning as underdog. Losses to UM and OSU. In fact Franklin has the third or fourth best cover percentage when favored - the last decade. Throw out Ol Miss bowl when half the starters sat out and not sure they have lost when favored since 2021.

Thank you for the data and common sense perspective vs emotional nonsense. I think we can reasonably question why PSU talent wise always seems to be a position group or two behind OSU and Michigan at critical times. It's the talent gap that always shows in those close losses. They have people who execute and rise to the "it" factor vs PSU at critical times. For example, PSU of the final four CFP teams had the worse QB play. Franklin clearly has done more with less than any other B10 team when playing OSU and Michigan. I recently heard one analyst say most B10 teams would kill to be where Franklin has PSU right now. Franklin is going to have to change the narrative that has dogged without question though.

@ most teams are not the dozen or so Blue Blood programs who’s historical success ensure top level recruiting, massive revenues from large fan bases, etc regardless of the coach. That’s what the would kill to be. They want to be a program like PSU in general…not necessarily Franklins PSU
