I don't mean to criticize. I was ten when this all occurred. I wasn't near the mountain that morning. We were traveling north from Salem. Backtrack a few months. There were multiple eruptions with substantial ash covering like grey snow before May. My family was camping at Thousand Trails directly west. My sister woke up and said it snowed last night. Stupid thing to say considering it didn't get below 50 degrees. A little over two inches covered the entire region. I just thought we had bad timing. That ash ruined our van. A month or so later the big one happened. The interstate closed and getting home to Seattle took all day and night. BTW... It's pronounced "Wear-houser". Trust me. I grew up very near their headquarters.
