The 2023 Asus ROG Flow X16 is a gaming laptop that folds! Whether you're using it as a tablet, in tent mode, or just a standard gaming laptop, it's got something for everyone in a truly unique and one-of-a-kind package. Touchscreen, QHD 1600p, glossy Mini-LED "Nebula HDR" display with 1,100 nits of brightness, Nvidia RTX 4060 or 4070 graphics, and this year they switched from AMD Ryzen 6900HS to Intel i9-13900H. @@NightingaleFlorine I've really loved the x16. I don't use if for gaming but do a lot of multimedia work that benefits from the gpu. I've had it for almost 2 years now and it runs everything I throw at it. I did recently upgrade the RAM to 64 Gig. 16 worked fine for me until I started working on 360 video editing. I was happy to find that it's designed to make RAM upgrades pretty straightforward. The battery life isn't great, but that's not an issue because I generally don't work away from power except maybe over lunch or something like that. Also it's physically large and not lightweight. I still think it's easy enough to tote around, and the battery/size/weight for me are necessary compromises for the power and screen size. It's a great computer. I haven't noticed any reduction in performance in the almost 2 years I've had it.

This is exactly what was desperatly looking for. The review is very well made, but the most important thing for me is your the noise / performance spreadsheet and commentary. There is no place online where one can find side by side comparsions of performance and noise levels of laptops in different scenarios. The performance of GPUs is so good nowdays, that many people are willing to sacrifice some fps for more quiet laptop. Another thing is work. Ofc there are some ppl that will benefit from 100% i9-13990XXHK processor, but many more (I belive) will use it in some middle-of-the-road scenarios. And for them it is very important to know how the laptop behaves in low load, medium load and high load scenarios (noise wise). I think this will be one of the most important aspects now and I will be watching your channel closely! I cant wait for RB16 review. Btw, I have 2022 X16 that I had some problems with (turned out it was SSD drive) - and i was wondering if I should change to M16 or 2023 X16 or RB16. And this good balance of performance, build quality and noise was the most important thing for me - but I could not find any place that would give me any answers. Until now ;) GW!

Lovely review, very well put and organized congrats! Got this bad boy with 4070 for 2.7k euros here in EU and I couldn't be happier since it checks every single mark that I've wanted from a 2in1. Big mini led screen, nice h/w (not the best but I wasn't expecting nor looking for 4080/4090) in these more slim dimensions while keeping the weight good AND being able to use it as a huge tablet with touch screen. You can virtually sit it at every possible place no matter how small it is, keep it in your hands and have a very respectable desktop replacement in your hands to do virtually everything on the go. The fact that it is highly upgradable is the icing on the cake for me. Yeah for this amount of money you can buy a bulk(ier) 4080 gaming laptop but I wasn't looking for something like this since gaming is important but not the top priority for me in a 2 in 1 laptop like this. I wanted a machine to be able to take it in my hands and use it in vertical or horizontal mode with touch screen, put it wherever I want in an airplane/train/bus or somewhere where space is limited while also having the ability to game decently in it.. Having the XG mobile option is nice also. I was able to o/c the GPU quite well also with 350/1200 so a welcome 10% increase in performance can come handy if needed! Such a great laptop..

Last year, the darker finishes were mostly the ones with RTX 3060 and IPS display while the grey finishes were the ones with 3070 and Mini-LED display. Thank you for the wonderful review as always! You deserve much more subscribers than what you have now. I hope you do not change the way you are so detailed with your reviews while incorporating comparisons with similar laptops, and previous versions of the laptops. I ended up returning my Strix Scar 16 because of how obvious the blooming is with the 2023 Mini-LED panels. I thought it was a panel issue, but it turns out to be more of a dimming algorithm problem. I'll probably reconsider it when they get it perfect or as close to the Macbooks.

Well done! You got the like and subscribe! Came here for the x16 (2023) review, but will be replaying the Armory Crate portion a bunch. I think I found my new laptop! GREAT REVIEW!!! I'm still working on a surface pro GEN 1, for mobile stuff.... yes the first one that came out about 10 years ago. On my desktop I've been having issues with Lightroom being sluggish and I believe it has to do with my settings in Armory Crate and probably the BIOS. I'm not sure if I have it set up properly. I upgraded my desktop with the idea that I wouldn't have to do it again for another 8-10 years and built using the following: ROG crosshair viii dark hero AMD 5950x 128gb gskill 3600mhz RAM (ddr4) 1tb m.2 nvme drive, 850w PSU 1070 (weakest component) Whenever I am using the clone tools it just feels slow, also, whenever I use a new windows explorer window it takes a couple seconds to pull it up. The whole experience just doesn't feel snappy. I'm running windows 10 pro, not many 3rd party programs opening on startup besides my LG monitor and some of the motherboard Asus programs.

I believe my Flow X16 has uneven CPU paste application. I'm experiencing excessively high CPU temperatures, even when playing games like League of Legends. One incident that convinced me of a poorly applied liquid metal was during a CPU burn test, where the temperature instantly spiked up to 95 degrees Celsius. I've modded and repasted several laptops that I own, so I know this isn't normal. Unfortunately, I can't repaste my Flow X16 due to the warranty sticker. The thought of returning my laptop just because of a poor paste job is frustrating. Additionally, I've been facing issues with the trackpad's ribbon cable seating. The poor connection sometimes renders my trackpad partially or completely unusable, showing a "hardware missing" message. I had to remove the battery (ignoring the warranty sticker) and reseat the trackpad cables because they were initially seated crookedly. Asus seriously needs to improve their QC. Great review and keep it up.

I got a PC in 2020 on my student loan for my college work as I was doing a games dev course and I got an ex friend to help me do it since I had never had to do it myself which I regret so much now with how bad that thing has run from the second I bought it, that Pc is only 2060ti and since then I’ve left college and now just don’t need all that with the kinda games I play, I’ve been wanting a laptop for so long and had a hp pavilion 360 before my PC which is what I was used to, I’ve just found this video never even knowing this laptop existed and I’m so glad I found this. Congratulations for the completeness of 'excellent review. Smooth, precise and focused on each chapter of the video. The only suggestions I could give you, would be to be able to devote more space to energy efficiency, as well as more tests regarding temperatures, for example a synthetic stress test, involving CPU and GPU simultaneously, to understand the maximum temperatures, in the worst possible scenario recreateable, for example using Furmark at the same time, and CInebench in loop for 40 minutes.

True but true. I have had a lot of different laptops over the years. Laptop performance and laptop durability/heat can never truly balance out. Most slim but powerful laptops tend to overheat or break easily. After three slim high performance laptops ($3-4k each), Ive come back to medium size high performance laptops again.

i have this particular laptop but with geforce 4050 for 3 months now. i think its great! i love how i was able to fit in 64gb ram instead of 16gb myself. Only complains i have is the touchpad is not as smooth as on macbook pro, only one usb-c, keyboard blinking when i am not using laptop in some mode.

Yeah, I wouldn’t blame you 🤣 the cool thing too is you can easily lower fans even more using something like G-Helper on these. G-Helper has been a lifesaver and is way easier to navigate and figure out than Armoury Crate or Legion Vantage!

Thanks!! And yeah just remember it’s more stable than you think it is! I tend to feel like it’s more stable at a slightly more narrow angle, so sitting a little higher. But I haven’t had any scuffing, I think the best bet is to try not to slide it around too much when it’s in tent mode. Lift and reposition instead of sliding and I think you’ll be good

Thanks for the detailed review, looking to upgrade from my 8yrs old Dell. Was looking at the Rog G14 and Zenbook 14 Pro, but I think this one hits the spot for me especially with all the upgradable internals and connectivity to external GPU. I'll wait until around black friday though to see how cheap it gets.

I thought this was a great and thorough review 👍 I'm currently on the fence between getting the new Flow X16 or Z13 with an XG Mobile Dock for either choice. Do you think the smaller form factor of the Z13 will significantly limit the CPU performance when even when it's connected to the dock?

Tablet mode dials back performance a bit so that things stay cool! About the same as tent mode, but tent mode has the most airflow so it allows the power draw to go higher.

Mahn.... i can't even count how many times i've been watching this rog flow x16 laptop videos, just another video you watch of things you love but can't get, and just wish santa is actually real so you can make a wish and get one🤣🤣 Great video by the way, i've been wondering how well it handles heat when playing triple A titles, by what we've seen in the video, its amazing

Finding a laptop that I can both take notes from the lectures with as well as doing simulations on was quite tricky. I think this one might solve that issue tho

Amazing review, seriously probably one of the best review videos i've ever seen, but one thing not mentioned is how much does it weigh? Going to be traveling with this laptop as well so weight is always a factor.

In the fan noise chart, you should actually sort the decibel logarithmicaly, so double the perceived noise also appears as double the bar! :)

I am about to decide between these 2 laptops: ASUS Flow X16 RTX 4070 versus Yoga Pro 9i 16 RTX 4070 (Here in Germany, the Flow 16 2023 is not available up to this point) What is your take on the Yoga Pro 9i 16 RTX 4070? Especially, noise and heat emissions!

Thanks! I think the Yoga 9i looks awesome this year. it looks super thin and the 4070 is cool. I hate that it has the stupid numpad and typical Legion-style keyboard (personal preference). It also will fall behind in performance due to the GPU hitting 20w less and I think the CPU is a bit lower performing too? Idk too much about the 13905H. Now I know I mentioned that TGP doesn't matter as much on the 4070 and that is true, but 100w MAX is something to note, because that means it will probably run at like 70-80w most of the time unless the CPU isn't being used at all, and that will cause a bit less performance. Matt Moniz also pointed out that the Extreme Performance mode hits 53dB which is quite a lot louder than the Flow's Turbo mode that only hits like 46-47dB. And if this is the score that the Yoga gets (at 6:18 in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH_FeoKBi5aDjKM) while in that Extreme mode then it definitely offers way less performance per decibel than the Flow. The Flow scores higher than that even its silent mode. The difference between a graphics score of 8k and 12k in games and gpu-heavy programs will be pretty noticeable. Also I couldn't find if the Yoga was touchscreen or not, or if it had the mini-LED single-zone toggle like the Flow has, which would be pretty important as well. I don't think it looks like a bad laptop by any means but if both were around the same price, I'd probably pick the Flow X16 personally.

Something that few reviewers have talked about is music production, which the AMD CPU makes such a difference that an intel CPU is more or less a dealbreaker. I have the 2022 now and I have just ordered the 2023 and plan to do a side-by-side comparison for music production with Ableton. I am suspecting that the 2023 version might be going back because of the intel CPU.

I got the 2022 model this week, in multizone mode having brightness above 60% solves the blooming issues and dimming zone which is good but when running on battery it might get low.

Yep! I typically leave my brightness around half or above so I barely ever notice the blooming

I actually bought the 2022 model last week, and it's actually expensive in my country. What I thought was 2023 will be even more expensive considering the i9. The configuration I took is Ryzen 7 6800HS and RTX 3060 I might buy the XGmobile after 2 or 3yrs and in a year I'll do a RAM and SSD upgrade

hey man , you seem knowledgeable about pcs , could you please answer a simple question of mine, i have the hp omen 15 8gb 512gb variant , i was looking to upgrade it , should i get a 16 gb stick (24gb total) or a 8gb (16gb total) stick is fine? like is it future proof for at least the next 4 years ? coz i just looked at the recommended specs of a new game that just came out , Forspoken and it had 16gb as minimum and 24 as recommended. so im a bit confused

Would you buy this over the Proart Studiobook 16 (2023)? I really love the flip over screen. I wish the Proart had a flip over screen and a 4080. Plus I do like the simple styling and keyboard.

Yeah, I have a Zenbook Pro 16X OLED with 4080 that I’m testing right now and that thing is awesome. But yeah I’d take the Flow over a ProArt although I love the chassis on those.

Would you recommend an x16 (4070), a g16 (4070), g14 (4080) or a m16 (4080), all of them found on best buy? I am a student who wants a very vibrant screen balanced with portability and gaming power. Price is out of the question.
