I love ultralight packing! Some tips that helped me in the field: - Keep your batteries warm at night (they die a lot faster when they're cold) - Take a small bag of dry rice to fill your shoes with when they're wet. Wet shoes are a nightmare to get dry again when in the field - Always take a towel with you, it WILL come in handy, every single time - Download your maps before you go, so you still find your way everywhere offline, when there's no reception
@joshfenn3 жыл бұрын
All really great tips, thanks for sharing! I’ll add in addition to the rice, save all of your silica gel packets from packaging you receive! Comes in really handy and can sometimes be more effective than rice for smaller objects.

For natural deodorant, the only one I’ve found to work is Arm & Hammer Essentials. It’s usually in the men’s section, even though I’m a female, I feel like they have very neutral scents (and actually my husband turned me onto it! lol). Great video!

Everywhere I've been there are shops. For Nepal I didn't even pack a razor. Cheap enough to get a barbershop shave (better than you could ever do yourself) every other day. Clothing is something one can buy in most places. Before the flight out drop off your t-shirts and sarong to a charity clothing bin. Never skimp on shoes, especially if you have big feet. Happy trails.

Another great video! Enjoy your trip. I been traveling so much again and I couldn't be happier. I got my wife and 7 year old son traveling with one bag as well. Wife and I are using the calpak stevyn duffle bags and our son is using his carry on size rolling luggage. he loves being able to finally help us with his luggage. i will say, the duffles we have are great for road trips no matter how long the trip. But my wife and I only complain is that even though we packs light, the bag is to heavy for us to carry all over the airport. As much as we want to do the one backpack travel we will be investing in rolling luggages before the end of the year.

I feel the same way about my Pakt one duffel. Absolutely love it for road trips, but always end up grabbing a backpack for air travel instead. Glad to hear your back and traveling again!

I am bit confused about the focus on merino wool clothing. This is nice when you hand wash these clothing, but if you want to farm out washing of these clothing then they will be shredded. Wouldn't you be better off with more durable synthetics for travel.
@kentroklus3 жыл бұрын
I wonder about this all the time too! I use wool for damn near everything when I travel/hike on my own and I’m in control of my own laundry, but when I travel for work, which is about 6 months of the year, I’m too busy to do anything else than drop it off at a cleaner, and like I don’t know if I trust the little old lady that does my wash in Cusco or Kyoto to understand the care instructions of THIS t-shirt is different than the care instructions of THAT t-shirt.
@kentroklus3 жыл бұрын
I wonder if anyone here has experience sending wool clothes out to be cleaned while traveling? I’d love to hear!
@sungk39623 жыл бұрын
@@kentroklus My concern is about travel in both South Asia and South East Asia. In those countries, the wool clothing may not survive the washing. Same may apply for some South American countries as well.
@CraigDavison33 жыл бұрын
This is my exact reason why I don’t own wool clothes as well. I would love to use them but I use laundrettes all over the world and they would get ruined and lost often. Instead I still stick with “normal” cotton clothes. Cheap, easy to replace and I don’t mind if they get ruined/lost.
@domt52982 жыл бұрын
I don't send washing out but use a laundry/delicates bag for woolen stuff. It can then go in a wash with other stuff. The benefits outweigh the risks.synthetics have to be washed daily. the exception is outerwear shorts (like sports shorts). With Nylon they're durable, and with woolen underwear don't need to be washed often

You should try Uncle Harry’s tooth powder. I’m not affiliated with them, I just enjoy their tooth powder since a little goes a long way and my mouth feels cleaner using the powder than using toothpaste. The essential oils in the powder are also very refreshing. I tried crystal deodorants awhile back and they didn’t work for me. After trying other natural deodorants (some worked better than others), I developed a sensitivity to the baking soda found in many of them, but applying coconut oil on top helped with that. I decided to give crystal deodorant another try and it worked this time! I would get some irritation from it too, so I also applied coconut oil after using the crystal deodorant and since coconut oil has antimicrobial properties, it’s been a good combination.

You don’t need deodorant. Of course, it does mean that you have to throw away all your shirts that you’ve ever worn with deodorant and buy new ones that you never use deodorant with. Because the deodorant gets into the fabric and means that you need more deodorant. But I haven’t worn deodorant for over 20 years and have never needed to, although I don’t eat meat . I do keep a pack of antibacterial wet wipes with me and usually use these before I put my T-shirt on. Once you realise this, it’s a game changer.

I think it just depends on your travel style and photography style. If I’m going home to visit family, or just having a more ‘touristy’ sort of trip sticking inside of the city I’m really happy with just the phone. If I’m going and doing more outdoor exploring though I really like to bring the big camera when I can, I mainly enjoy nature/landscape photography personally though. Hopefully this helps a bit!
