My dad was always hard on me, pushing me to do good in school. A *stark* contrast to my mother, she would play this for me on piano. They both died December 16, 1991 in a "car accident". I hope they'd be proud of me and how I'm running the family business.

Try to remember the kind of September When life was slow and oh, so mellow. Try to remember the kind of September When grass was green and grain so yellow. Try to remember the kind of September When you were a young and callow fellow, Try to remember and if you remember then follow. Try to remember when life was so tender That no one wept except the willow. Try to remember when life was so tender That dreams were kept beside your pillow. Try to remember when life was so tender That love was an ember about to billow. Try to remember and if you remember then follow. Deep in December it's nice to remember Although you know the snow will follow. Deep in December it's nice to remember Without a hurt the heart is hollow. Deep in December it's nice to remember The fire of September that made you mellow. Deep in December our hearts should remember then follow. Then follow

Good rendition but no one does this better than Ed Ames who recorded this in 1967. Don't get me wrong, I like Groban as a performer, but Ames version is so powerful and full of feeling given his baritone voice. Then again, most of KZbinrs don't even know what I am talking about.

His is indeed very nice, but not superior to Jerry Orbach's original (from the cast recording--not the cheesy version that was made, I guess aimed at radio play). Also, this rendition includes some slight lyric changes, for better or worse. Truly though, the original, with just minimal accompaniment, is the most beautiful (I'm not certain exactly what's on that track, but the full complement of instrumentalists for the cast recording was two pianists, a harpist, a percussionist, and one man playing alternately bass and cello). This bigger sound is nice, but if I could only choose one, it would be the original.

I remember my sister Karen singing and playing this song to me on her guitar when I was a child. My birthday was September 1st, so of course I thought she picked this song just for me. It was my favorite song she ever sang to me. However, I cannot discredit "The Our Father", "Dominique", "The Cruel War", Bridge Over Troubled Waters, or any other fantasic hits of the 60's and 70's that she sang to me :)
