Welcome to my daily coverage of the 2023 Transcontinental Race. The Transcontinental Race is a self supported bikepacking race across Europe. Riders have to plan their own route between a series of set parcour and checkpoints. The 2023 edition of The Transcontinental race is the 9th running of the event and begins in Geeradsbergen in Belgium and finishes in Thessaloniki in Greece.
The 2022 edition of the event was won by Christof Strasser who returns to defend his title. The fastest woman in 2022 was Fiona Kolbinger who also won the event overall in 2019. Other previous winner are Kristof Allergaert (2013, 2014, 2016) , James Hayden (2017 & 2018) and some guy called Josh in 2015.

I believe that Strasser's bike is an S-Works Roubaix.

Yep. Same bike as last year. And I don’t think he’s tubeless. I know he wasn’t last year

Yes, it is an S-Works Roubaix with 28mm tires (Roubaix Pro running on tubes). I also run a SON dynamo and Supernova M99 DyPro lighting and a Di2. By the way: Thanks @joshibbett for the great content during TCR and all the best for Silk Road!

8:08 My back hurts just looking at that bike. I can't believe someone can ride this thing more than 3 hours.

The thumbnail of your kit list is genius - with you laid on the floor! I think getting older means we need to carry more "just in case" or comfort items. I have PBP in just a few weeks time, in 2019 I barely took any clothing and certainly didn't even dream of sleeping outdoors so I was pretty naive in retrospect. "Bikepacking" as a thing wasn't even in my vocabulary in 2019, this year I'll be different, I'll certainly be more organised and going lightweight as possible. When you compare it to recent events such as the PCR - length-wise - it's so much smaller in time/days so riding through the night becomes more of a necessity and can have less sleep overall as the end comes much sooner.

Loving the Marins Fairlight Strael!! Very nice color, no-nonsense internal routed cockpit and most likely very comfortable frame to ride.

Awesome review Josh whats probably the best bike pick for TCR any takers ? The roubaix or any carbon would probably need to be retired after a TCR vs a titanium or a steel frame

hey josh! really digging your videos!👍 i'm new to the bike packing and tcr topic an reeeeally enjoying all the different bicycles. i was wondering how the tcr riders are dealing with the lights on their bikes. i've seen an older video of you and your bike setup where you say that you've got a dynamo. is this the best solution for remote areas and riding dark roads?

Would u recommend a steel or titan bike over a carbon frame bike? I am getting more and more into long distance rides (and races) and i am currently running a very comfy orbea terra carbon gravel wich i also use with road tires. The geometry is unmatched for me so far... I love this bike. But i am always concerned about crashes and so on. And i also would love to have a bike that really lasts endlessly. So what do i need on long rides? Comfort i guess. It is not about making fast sprints all the time where a stiff material needs to deliver power directly into the Asphalt. Steel is way softer than carbon wich makee it more comfy. And i could weld it and bend it back if it ever gets broken. Sure it is not as light as carbon but... Does it really matter talking about maybe 1-2 kg? Then there is titan wich has not only the greatest look but is also light and the most durable material on earth. I couldn't weld it but maybe i will never have to. Steel could rust. So...... All of these materials can make an aerodynamic bikein the end. But what is your most recommended choice? If think about all aspects actually it would be steel..... Cheers

What's the best social media to follow the TCR? For years Twitter was great but feels like there has been a change this year and it has much less presence.
