In Germany, there is also a great harp builder (called Konzertharfenbau RIEDEL) who also offers a 40 string single-action pedal harp. (Btw. The name of the model is Vivien.) In my opinion, the advantage of this harp compared to the tyrolean/bavarian single-action pedal harps is, that the technic is - same as in concert harps - in the column and not in the body which causes a better and fuller sound. I played this harp for a long time now because 1. I didn‘t have the budget for a full size concert harp 2. it is smaller, less heavy; way easier to carry around 3. I don‘t need the additional 7 strings or the „second set of discs“. For me, this type of harp was absolutely the right decision. Best wishes and: thank you Josh for all of your fantastic videos!!!

Sorry for the delay (Harp Friday?!?) - Victoria, BC, Canada, where I live, experienced a very intense heat wave earlier this week and it was definitely way too hot to record anything during it. Fortunately things have cooled down now :) I hope you find this episode helpful/interesting!

Just found this -- Salvi also has a 47 string semi-grand that's not as tall or heavy as most of their full size CGs, the Daphne 47 SE. I've just gotten one, and it's great to have full range and that rich, chocolatey sound of an extended soundboard without feeling like I'm pinned under a boulder. (I'm 5'8" but still don't care for a very large concert grand.)

You did have hot temps there. Glad it has cooled somewhat. Buying a harp takes lots of analyzing and thinking while the other part of the brain absorbs and dissects sound, beauty of the harp leading into how it fits and feels. It is a fun journey and you certainly helped prepare those who are considering getting or adding to the harp "family". Thank you.

Thank you for addressing this subject and the various considerations in selecting a harp. I do feel my choice of the Lyon Healy Chicago 40 was the best choice for me. I purchased this Harp at age 73 to complete my dream of learning the harp. If I felt I had more time in life, I would certainly consider all those factors for adding a harp with more strings. This video is very helpful! I feel blessed to have discovered Harp Tuesday and as well as a wonderful harp teacher.

I have a style 23 but it's an old one. Not much room for my right hand in the upper register!

I have an old style 100 with 46 strings and it's still too big for me. I am thinking of downsizing to 44 strings.
