I learned this as a kid on the pedal harp and then had to give up harp for a while due to the expense…. Now I have a lever harp and thought I couldn’t play this - one of my favorite pieces ever. Overjoyed there is a lever harp version out there!! So beautiful!!

Absolutely stunning. I think that the low A string is essential in this piece. It resonates through the whole body. Thanks so much for this, Josh.

So glad you arranged this for lever harp as I have wanted to learn it for a while. This will be my harp goal for 2023.

Wow! I have a double strung harp and love the way the harmonics mimic the repeated notes! This is beautiful!

I just started learning this piece yesterday and I already love it! Also, it was very nice getting to meet you on Oct. 28th in Hanover, i now am so much more motivated to become a harpist! :)

such a sad adieu reminds me a bit of Mozart funeral march. The harmonics stole my heart. I think this is an exceptional quality piece of John Thomas works. I would thank him for using the harp as his instrument of choice and a triple at that and not the clarenet. Thank You Josh for an amazing performance. I could listen for hours.

Thank you so much for making this Josh, by the water, no less! I have students learning this on lever, & I learned it many years ago, first on lever then pedal. It was also my theme song for a little while (in my romantic twenties). Your interpretation is sensitive, your playing so articulate, the final variation superb, & return to the theme "settling". Thanks!

As the vibrations of the soundboard are on the vertical and at an angle the harp must be listened to live...no recording can evoke a harp performance in its fullest beauty...my biased opinion...

May I gently clarify if this piece can only be played on a 38 stringed lever harp?
@JoshLayne Жыл бұрын
It's playable on a standard 34 string harp (low C to high A). Of course if you have the low A (and in the last variation if you have the high B) you get to take use them, but my arrangement has options for both sizes and it sounds fine on 34 strings!
